Atlanta Refrigerator Disposal

Do you need appliance removal right away? Click Here!

There’s a company in Atlanta that operates a “free” appliance recycling drop-off facility. What’s free is the ability for you to drop off your washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, and freezers. If you are dropping off dishwashers, microwaves, hot water heaters, lawnmowers, or barbeque grills, however, you have to pay five dollars per appliance.

Oh, and if you are dropping off water coolers or air conditioners you have to pay $10 per appliance.

Now, their business hours for drop-offs are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM and, on the surface, this might seem like a pretty good deal. But there is no mention of exactly how you’re supposed to get your items over to this facility.

All this calls into question the idea of “free” recycling.

Do you have to rent some sort of moving truck or cargo van to carry out this mission? Not only that, but you might also have to hire some additional help. And because the center is only open during the week, you’ll probably have to take time from work to get this job done.

It’s easy to see how this “free service” could become a very costly affair. But there is a better way.

How Atlanta Refrigerator Disposal Works

Refrigerators, like most large appliances, are normally kept in your home until they break down. They might stop cooling, cool too much, leak, creak, their doors may even come off the hinges. Further, with the cost of new refrigerators reaching between a few hundred dollars into a few thousand dollars, most people would prefer to keep their older version. Refrigerators then are not usually a spare of the moment purchase—but what happens on the other side of the refrigerator’s life?

If you have had an appliance suddenly break down, you know this feeling. Part anger at the appliance and situation, part fear for what to do next. It’s not like you can drop off the refrigerator on the curb, it’s far too heavy in most cases—and even if you could haul it out there, they wouldn’t take it. You also don’t have an option to take it to the local landfill because the freon in the refrigerator’s pipes is a toxin to the environment. What’s the next option? A trip to the local recycling facility? Be prepared to pay for the draining of the freon and be prepared to be charged for the recycling process of the solid materials.

Or, choose the easiest, fastest, cheapest, and greenest option available for all junk hauling, waste disposal, and appliance removal: Junk King North Atlanta.

The Easiest Refrigerator Disposal and Appliance Recycling

Old damaged appliances

Any sort of appliance removal can be difficult, as indicated above. It can be very costly, needing the correct vehicle and the ability to pay all of the fees; you’ll also need strong people able to move the large blocks of metal. Additionally, none of this speaks to the possibility of injuries either. The average person cannot lift a large appliance and even attempting to could result in a thrown-out back or worse.

The easiest solution for refrigerator disposal or appliance removal is Junk King North Atlanta. What makes Junk King so different and easy from the do-it-yourself option? Well for starters, Junk King provides two options for any junk or trash pick-up: the full-service option or the self-service option. Depending on which service is chosen, the process and costs are different but regardless of which service is chosen, you get the best option in Atlanta for junk removal.

The full-service option is Junk King’s most popular feature, in fact, the entire company was built on the premise. It involves ordering a truck and a professionally trained removal team of two or more people. Once the team gets to the location (residential or business) the Junk King team gets to work and loads up the big red truck with every piece of junk and trash that you want gone.

As our franchise owner, Harry Van Buren likes to say, ‘the heaviest thing you should have to lift is the telephone’—and that’s this service. The full-service option at Junk King North Atlanta is the easiest and fastest junk removal solution; just point, and the junk is gone.

The other available option is self-service; in this case, a Junk King MINI dumpster is ordered and remains on the property for 3 to 7 days. The Junk King MINI dumpsters hold 12 cubic yards of junk and waste, so not only can you fit an appliance into the dumpster, but you can also fit that old washer and dryer in it too.

Not to mention, since the MINI stays at your home for multiple days, you can add additional junk and trash that you might not have otherwise. (Who’s going to remember to get rid of the broken broom in the garage unless you see it every day?)

Further, because of Junk King’s commitment to transparency and no additional fees, you can know the estimate of everything before the trucks arrive so you can rest easy knowing the approximate cost without any obligation. All of our drivers will also call you 15 minutes before they arrive, so you know exactly where they are, and you don’t need to waste your day waiting on a dumpster drop-off or the arrival of our team.

Get Rid of Your Appliances, Machines, or Equipment in North Atlanta

If you’re a business owner, a landlord, a property manager, or even a contractor, you will eventually run into poor, old, or mismanaged appliances, machines, or equipment. What can the business owner do about such things?

A landlord can call for help and load it into a truck themselves (which we don’t recommend), but the owner cannot just load up a truck with large machines and equipment, especially when they might not know how to take them apart or how to do so safely. They cannot even have their workers take such things apart because there is a loss of revenue in the downtime and there is the threat of possible injury and subsequent workers compensation plus more downtime and monetary loss from a downed employee.

So, what can the business owner do when a machine that can fill a residential house is suddenly obsolete and causing more issues than the machine is worth? Junk King North Atlanta is the solution for this, and all junk removal problems.

Unlike other removal companies, who will only drop off a dumpster and pick it up, Junk King has the equipment and the ability to break down those big machines and equipment to make it safe to haul away and easy to recycle once it is broken down to its rawest material parts.

There are numerous benefits for a business owner choosing to haul with Junk King, among them are the guarantee for recycling, the fast-paced and immediate assistance, the specialized B2B payment plans, and the insured status of all Junk King professional removers.

Don’t Take Your Refrigerator to the Dump; Get it Recycled Instead

Appliances, machines, toxins, technology, and hazardous wastes aren’t typically allowed in dumps and landfills. This is because there are elements that reside in them that will greatly harm the local wildlife and environment. Such an example can be drawn from the broken refrigerator; the freon which cools the pipes inside of the appliance are highly toxic to animals and can greatly damage the environment, even in small to moderate amounts.

Due to this, many dumps, if they take appliances, will require you to first have those toxic elements removed, or they will give you an option to ‘drain it for you’ at an additional cost. Then after this, what happens to the appliance? It’s most likely moved to where all the other similar products are placed—a far and out of the way area of the dump.

Just like most bad situations though, there is a better option; get it recycled instead. There are two ways that this can happen, either by taking the appliance to a CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) facility or by having Junk King pick it up for you.

Junk King is known for a lot of things; like their world-class customer representatives, being the number one rated removal company in North America, or their industry-changing commitment to at least 60% of everything from all hauls being recycled, reused, donated, or repurposed. Such a high goal of recycling is possible for Junk King because of their processing of junk and trash.

The processing works by first unloading a truck or dumpster at the Junk King ‘recycling hub’. Once there, items are separated into a variety of ‘piles’ including a special area for complex items like appliances. The second phase of the Junk King recycling process involves the draining of liquid elements from the appliances, and a subsequent step of breaking down the pieces of the appliance into their lowest, singular, parts.

Lastly, those pieces which cannot be recycled buy Junk King in the facility are shipped away to the proper recycling facilities to restart their lives or to be processed down into raw pellets/sheets of material.

The second and third phases of the Junk King process are also done at other recycling facilities—the difference is that Junk King provides auxiliary assistance in the forms of additional hands and schedule flexibility, it also provides a cheaper form of removal which can be maximized to include multiple items, and it provides the entire experience at a far better (lower) cost than what a recycling facility or the dump can support.

“Easy” Refrigerator Disposal and Appliance Recycling

old refrigerator disposalThat better way would be hiring professional junk haulers like Junk King Atlanta to take care of your personal junk removal.

While it’s not free, it’s certainly far easier and simpler. You don’t have to load and unload your refrigerator or other appliances. You don’t have to miss work to take care of it. And you don’t have to worry about whether or not your appliances will be recycled properly because at Junk King, that’s what we do.

At Junk King Atlanta, we pride themselves on being able to “go green” and we are well acquainted with all the proper recycling and disposal programs located throughout the greater Atlanta area.

But why stop with just refrigerator disposal?

You can maximize your time with our junk hauling team by not only removing your old refrigerator but by making it a total junk removal project for your entire home. In fact, this would be a perfect time to get rid of some of those other bulky junk items that you’ve been hanging onto and that are simply taking up space.

Maybe that’s some old furniture, used mattresses, scrap auto parts or anything else that’s taking up valuable space around your home. Our professional junk haulers are ready to load up and take away any kind of junk you have except for hazardous waste.

And the best part of this approach is that we do all the heavy lifting!

Getting Strategic with Junk Removal in Atlanta

If you’re getting rid of your old refrigerator you may also be replacing it with a newer model.

That’s a great idea since it will mean you can purchase a more energy-efficient and smart refrigerator. The newest models will not only help reduce your monthly electric bills but can let you know when it’s time to get more milk!

In addition, you might even be eligible for a rebate when you purchase a new, energy-efficient appliance. When you do upgrade your refrigerator, consider getting one with some of the great features that you might have gone without previously, such as an in-door ice and water dispenser or a glass-paneled easy access door that allows you to see inside without letting the cold air out.

So, how long can you enjoy your new refrigerator?

Today’s high-tech refrigerator units should last you anywhere between five to eight years so spending the extra money now will be paid back in the long run over the course of time. If you time it right, you can schedule Junk King Atlanta to come and remove your old refrigerator and other items on the same day that your new refrigerator shows up.

This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “Out with the old, in with the new!”

Why Your Old Refrigerator Shouldn’t Go to the Dump

Back in the day that was the thing to do. When the old ice box stopped working you hauled it into the back of the truck (or someone else’s!) and took it to the dump. Maybe you had a guy nearby who dealt in refurbished appliances or scrap metal, or both. And that was that.

No longer.

Today, the best old refrigerator disposal solution is to have it recycled.

If you know that you’re not going to be able to sell your old refrigerator or even donate it, what do you do with it? While some people still think that the obvious answer is to simply dump it, that’s actually the worst thing you could do. And nowadays you may not even be able to dump it anywhere.

However, the good news is that most of what a refrigerator is made from can be efficiently recycled and that can be material reused.

In fact, one of the cool things about refrigerator disposal is that these appliances are highly recyclable. After the coolant and any other toxic components have been professionally removed, over 90 percent of that old fridge can be recycled and reused.

As the EPA states,

“Almost all of the materials in your refrigerator or freezer can be recycled. This includes the metal cabinet, plastic liner, glass shelves, the refrigerant and oil in the compressor, and the blowing agent contained in polyurethane foam insulation.”

Which is why taking it to a recycling facility is the better option. And the best thing about refrigerator disposal here in the North Atlanta region is that you don’t have to do it yourself!

At Junk King Atlanta North, we can help you get your old refrigerator to a proper facility for recycling, and we make it simple for you. In fact, the simplest and easiest way to dispose of your unusable refrigerator in an environmentally acceptable way is to give us a call.

That’s because Junk King Atlanta North is your best choice for that task.

And when you contact us for scheduling your refrigerator removal pickup, just give us an indication of where it is, such as what room or what floor, and whether it is a residential or commercial location.

The junk removal team at Junk King Atlanta North goes to great lengths to ensure that we remove your appliances and other junk items safely and efficiently and that we don’t scratch your house or floor.

mattress disposal

Nowadays you can pretty much find whatever you’re looking for on the Internet. Whether that’s an old toy from your childhood that you want to own once again or directions to a favorite pizza joint all that information is just a mouse click away.

If you have an old mattress and box spring that you’re thinking about getting rid of there is a number of helpful recommendations on how to dispose of them properly  – specifically in the city of Atlanta.

Your Mattress Removal Options in Atlanta

On the top of the list is donating your old mattress (and box spring) to a local nonprofit organization. However, while that’s a conscientious and noble thing to do, it’s going to require some work on your part.

First of all, you have to do another search to find out which of these charitable organizations in the Atlanta area will accept an old mattress. It turns out there are not that many.

For example, The Salvation Army does not accept mattresses at any of their stores or donation centers. Goodwill Industries does accept mattresses at some of their locations, but you would want to call ahead before going to the trouble of hauling one.

Whether a non-profit or thrift store will accept a mattress donation depends on the condition of the mattress. Most charities will only accept clean, usable mattresses that are in good condition.

And, If you do find a charity that will take your mattress, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll pick it up so you will most likely have to transport the mattress yourself.

If you don’t own a truck or have access to one, this could mean having to strap your old mattress to the top of your car (if you can!) and driving it over to wherever the charity is accepting donations. Making his kind of donation may be more practical when you pack up the truck or inside of your car with bags of clothes and other junk items, as well.

But it doesn’t make a lot of sense when all you want to do is get rid of one old mattress!

Another option that’s recommended is to list your mattress and box spring on selling websites like Craigslist and others.

The upside of this approach is that you can make a few dollars and let someone else come and pick up your old, unwanted mattress. The downside is that means you will be letting a total stranger into your home to take away your used mattress. And you have absolutely no idea who might respond to that type of ad.

What you cannot do, however, is put your old mattress out on the curb in front of your house with a sign on it that reads, “Free mattress.” And you definitely can’t haul it off to the other side of town or out into the country somewhere and simply dump it. Not only is it poor form and inconsiderate, but it’s also highly illegal in Atlanta.

Unlawful dumping in Georgia can carry fines up to $25,000 and, or up to, two years of prison time for a second offense. For first offenders, fines start at $100.

And, in case the thought crossed your mind, putting mattresses or other trash items into someone else’s dumpster – like a nearby apartment complex – is illegal in Atlanta, as well.

mattress recycling

Where to Recycle a Mattress in Atlanta

For people who live in Atlanta, there are three options available for recycling a mattress. The first is to deliver the mattress to the local mattress disposal group; the second is to deliver it to the local CHaRM center; the third is to have it picked up and entirely handled by professionals like Junk King. Picking the right place to dispose of your mattress can mean the difference between paying a lot or paying a little to get the same results.

In the first option, the owners could have decided to haul their mattress to their local mattress disposal group. These are usually privately owned businesses, but there are some that are branches of corporate conglomerates as well. These disposal groups are normally touted for their commitment to recycling all of the parts of a mattress, and so they are some of the best resources for people to get rid of their mattresses without much hassle (and with a price tag attached to the service).

The unfortunate thing about these groups is that they usually only take very specific items, so getting rid of anything beyond just a mattress or a box spring is definitely out of the question with this option. (You’ll also need to haul it there yourself and use your own car.)

In the second option, the owners have the ability to haul their mattresses to their local CHaRM facility. CHaRM stands for Center for Hard to Recycle Materials, and there are only a few in the country—luckily, one of them is in Atlanta. They are known for being able to process down and recycle the most difficult materials in the world, so a mattress doesn’t stand a chance against their tools and processing machines (even one with springs, that would usually break a normal recycling machine).

The bad side of this option is the same problem that comes from the former option; you’d need to haul your mattress there, then pay for it to be recycled. However, unlike the disposal groups, you would have the option to have additional objects taken by the CHaRM center—just don’t be surprised by the additional fees.

By far, the best way to get your mattress recycled in Atlanta is by utilizing the availability and tools of Junk King. Unlike the other options, Junk King operates by picking up your junk and trash, and hauling it away for you. This ends up giving you back your Sunday, while also giving you the peace of mind to know that your mattress and junk are being responsibly broken down and recycled. Additionally, because Junk King has a full-service junk hauling crew, you have the option to have large amounts of various junk and trash removed. This is greatly important when it comes time for spring cleaning or an estate needs cleaning out.

Mattress Recycling Can be Easy

Now more than ever, there are mattresses available. They can be bought in bulk, varying in size, color, and material; even the technology used to create the modern bed has changed drastically since the original hay-filled sacks. A side effect of all of this progress comes in the form of online mattress retailers.

The would-be-new-bed-owner can hop online and in under a minute have thousands of options, many with thousands of their own reviews. One of the most prosperous online retailers for mattresses is Casper—with them, you can buy a particular mattress and have it shipped to your home, and if you don’t like it you can send it back within 100-days for a refund.

Casper’s approach to the availability and technology used in creating mattresses has redefined what it is to be a mattress sells-men, and for all of its benefits—it has also spawned a large problem in the mattress industry: the returned mattresses. Once opened and used, mattress manufacturers cannot repackage and sell these mattresses. The result is that there is an influx of mattresses and only the most environmentally conscious manufacturers have the facilities to break them down. Additionally, because some aspects of a mattress can be made with environmentally toxic materials, only certain landfills are able to accept them; conversely, the landfills that do take mattresses, are greatly filled by them.

At Junk King, we believe that getting rid of that old mattress should be as easy as getting a brand new mattress online. We also believe in being the most environmentally conscious as possible—meaning we’ll never drop a mattress into a landfill, each one is broken down and recycled. The process for Junk King’s removals comes in two forms—both easier than dealing with traditional methods of mattress removal (let alone recycling them).

The residential homeowner has two options with Junk King; the first is to order a full-service removal, which involves a big red truck and a professionally trained removal crew; the second is to order a self-service removal, which consists of a Junk King MINI dumpster being dropped off, then picked up after a few days. In both options Junk King provides not only top-rated removal experiences but also world-class customer interactions.

Recyclable Mattress Components

Depending on the type of mattress you own, there are multiple aspects of it that can be stripped away and used in recycling. According to Early Bird, a blog site funded and owned by Amerisleep, there are up to 85-90% of materials in a mattress that can be repurposed.

In the case of a traditional spring mattress and corresponding box spring, there are five elements that the mattress can be processed into. The first of these is the springs and coils—while these are some of the largest parts of our mattresses, they are very difficult to recycle due to their metal. However, the metal that is recycled from them is able to be smelted and remade into new items. Foams are another element that mattresses commonly use.

Mattress foam (as well as mattress foam toppers) can be used as fuel, used in insulation, repurposed into dog beds, or compressed into carpet padding. The fabrics and upholstery that encase a bed can also be reused; sliced apart, they can be made into a variety of clothing and items, including pillow inserts or cushion linings. Fibers are also able to be reclaimed by the recycling process. Cotton, spandex, and the multipurpose fibers that are found in mattresses can be taken out and used for insulation or collected and compressed into a variety of air or water filters.

The wood of the mattress and box spring can also be used, as wood is arguably the most versatile material in the world. Even broken waterbeds have great value when recycled down to their most simple parts. The large materials of the liners and water bladder both can play large parts in creating pellets (the rawest state of recycled plastics) for new items—if not used as materials for tarps or small, backpack-sized water bladders.

Of course, the breaking down process of a mattress can be done at home too. You might want to consider this if you are wanting to get rid of your mattress without paying all of the fees that a full mattress might require usually. For a traditional bed, you only really need a pair of scissors, a flathead screwdriver, and some needle-nose pliers. Take apart each layer slowly, separating into the above groups, and you could end up getting rid of that bed for free if taken to the right center.

Recycling Alternatives

There are also other alternatives to recycling and the landfill that the homeowner can utilize. Some of these alternatives include the ability to give it away or donate it, while others involve the selling or reimagining of the mattress.

As mentioned above, there are plenty of charities that exist for people to donate items. One such charity is the Salvation Army; however, charities are not the only viable option that can be used to get rid of a mattress. Both men’s and women’s shelters are commonly in need of mattresses, but also some animal shelters and rescues could be interested in your old mattress. Additionally, you could also choose to donate it to a local artist—the artist would certainly be a rarity.

Alternatively, you always have the option of selling your mattress, given that it is in a good enough state. Post pictures of it online to eBay or Let Go and you could potentially net more than the bed is worth—just don’t forget to factor in the cost of delivery and gas (and food to bribe your ‘haulers’) into the cost. Or, you can keep the mattress and reimagine it.

This would likely take some creativity and some tools, but there is a lot of potential with a mattress (especially one with springs). For example, one could take their mattress and slice holes into it before filling the holes with dog treats. Dogs with big noses would be sure to search the entire item, and watching them find the treats would double as a fun time for you too.

Mattress Disposal – How to Do It in Atlanta

So, you’ve decided that you just want to get rid of your old mattress, or maybe it’s so bad off that it can’t be sold or donated anyway.

Not to worry! You have options for that, too.

In the Atlanta area, for example, you can drop your mattress off at the Gateway Transfer Station. Again, that could be a great option assuming you can haul it out of your house and load it on your vehicle yourself. Unfortunately, that’s not possible for everyone.

If you haven’t tried to move a typical king-size mattress recently, you may be a bit surprised to learn that they can weigh up to 180 pounds. Now, imagine trying to heft almost two hundred pounds of dead weight. And then maneuvering it through doorways, down stairways, and up onto a truck bed or the top of a car.

That’s why we are proud to offer one recommendation that is foolproof –  and that’s hiring the professional junk removal team at Junk King North Atlanta.

We make it our business to haul off all types of junk, and removing and disposing of your old mattress and box spring is a snap for us. And, because we are professionals, we are also licensed and insured. In other words, we are exactly the kind of workers you can be comfortable having come into your home. It also means we’re dependable and will show up on time for your removal appointment.

Another great benefit of calling Junk King North Atlanta is that you’ll be able to get rid of any other junk you’ve been hanging onto for years.

As a professional junk removal company, we are in the business of hauling and disposing of all types of junk items including old furniture, appliances, mattresses, cabinets, yard waste, computer parts, and much, much more. In addition, we know how and where to properly dispose of that junk so it doesn’t all end up in a local landfill. In fact, being a “green” junk removal firm is part of our mission.

Junk King was founded in 2005 as the first recycling-based junk removal operation in the nation. And, for Junk King North Atlanta, this means taking the time and making the effort to recycle as much as we possibly can. In fact, we are successful in recycling 60 percent of what we take in, on average.
