Take Care Of Sofa Removal With A Call To Junk King

An old sofa is one of those things that can never be tossed into the trash. However, it also can’t be put out on the curb for a “free pickup.” Instead, it would help if you had a team of movers and a big truck to get rid of your old sofa. Is that something you need to handle today? Then you can call Junk King Dayton to make it happen. These are professional junk haulers who can take care of sofa removal in literally a matter of minutes.

Safe Carry Out

You will be assigned a two-person moving crew to take care of your sofa removal agenda. This is a team that works fast, but they also work safely. When you bring the Junk King crew into your home, they will plot out a course for removing that sofa to ensure it will not damage walls and floors. Once that sofa is carried out of the house, it will be loaded onto the back Junk King truck. At that point, you can declare the session as complete. But you might want to consider what else you can get rid of.

Even though getting rid of your old sofa was the reason for calling Junk King, you don’t have to stop there. You can get rid of a lot of other stuff, and it doesn’t all have to be bulky items. For example, this is your chance to clear old clothing out of your garage or unwanted gadgets from your kitchen cabinet.

Many things you are getting rid of might still be of use. If that is the case, the Junk King team will drop those things off at a local charity. That is how Junk King prefers to make its disposal drop-offs!

Getting rid of your old sofa will not be a challenge for the team from Junk King Dayton. So put them on the task today.

Get Your New Year Off on the Right Foot with a Clean Home

It’s hard to believe that this year is almost over, but the new year is right around the corner. With it comes New Year’s resolutions and other plans for the next 365 days. You may have already come up with resolutions and goals for next year, which is great. You may have decided to change your diet, stop engaging in bad habits, or complete specific projects.

Did you include keeping your home clean and junk-free as one of those goals? If not, you might want to. Even if your home is generally clutter-free, there may still be some things you can do to make it cleaner. If your house is a mess, this is one resolution that you should definitely make. Here are some tips for getting the new year off on the right foot with a clean home, including how Junk King Dayton can help you achieve this goal.

Don’t Try to do it All at Once

One of the biggest reasons why some people put off doing a deep clean of their home or doing a major purge is because the task seems so large and time-consuming that they just don’t know where to start. Cleaning your entire house can seem very overwhelming, especially if you have a garage, basement, or attic that you know is full of stuff you have to sort through.

Instead of trying to find a weekend or even a full week to do nothing but clean the house, break the project up into smaller sections. Maybe clean a room at a time or a floor at a time. Leave areas such as the basement for a weekend where that’s the only space you work on. If that’s still too much, break the rooms down. Do your closet one day, the space under your bed the next, and your bathroom storage the day after. There’s no right or wrong way to clean your home, so do it however works for you.

It can help to make a checklist of all the spaces you want to clean. This can help make the task seem more manageable and give you a way of seeing that you’re making progress. Every part of the room you complete gets marked off until you can cross off the entire space.

To avoid getting tired of cleaning, it may help to spread out the project over an entire month. This way, you’re not constantly focusing on purging and organizing every day. You can take breaks so you don’t get exhausted.

Set Aside a Space for Garbage, including Large Junk

Set Aside a Space for Garbage, including Large Junk

What do you do with all the stuff you decide you no longer need? You’ll want to have a space to collect it. It’s simply not practical to call us out to pick up each item, nor do you want to constantly take things to a donation drop-off. Typically, you would put all of this stuff in your garage, but it’s also winter. You likely want to get your vehicles in the garage to protect them from the ice and snow.

If you don’t have that much space, there is good news: Junk King doesn’t need you to put old furniture, appliances, or whatever else you want us to take anywhere special. We will come in and remove the items you want us to take from whatever room they’re in. Just point them out or mark them with a sticky note so we know what to take. We’ll handle all of the work getting the furniture and other things out to our truck. While you may still need a space to put boxes or bags of things you don’t want, you won’t need to worry about moving old furniture.

In addition to trash, you may want to make two other piles: donation and giveaway. You may have things you don’t need that you know a friend or family member wants. Family heirlooms likely need to stay in the family, so you may want to set them aside until you can reach out to relatives to see who wants the heirlooms. Anything that’s in good condition can be set aside for donation. Some charities will even come to pick up bags of clothing, shoes, and other household goods.

Junk King Handles Donating Furniture and Large Items

While charities may pick up bags, boxes, and small items, many don’t have trucks or other vehicles capable of hauling away furniture and appliances. Junk King can easily fit these items in our truck; if they’re in good condition, we won’t take them to the dump. Instead, we will pass them along to one of our local charitable partners. These organizations will see that the items get to those needing them. We do our best to redirect as much as possible from the landfill, and that includes donating and recycling as much as possible.

Get the Family Involved

If you’re not the only one who lives in your home, you shouldn’t be the only one doing all the cleaning. In fact, you can’t be—you don’t know what your spouse, children, or anyone else who lives with you wants to keep or get rid of. You will need them to handle their own rooms, including their closets and anything they have in the garage or other space.

This can be difficult if you have a family who is resistant to cleaning, but it’s important that they help. Otherwise, you may not be able to fully purge or organize their rooms and other spaces. Getting rid of things for your children can cause a fight later if you donate something they really wanted to keep, so always do your best to get them to help. It will help you avoid these types of fights later on.

When Do You Call Junk King?

Ideally, you’ll give us a call after you’ve gone through every room and are ready to get rid of all your junk, but that’s not always an option. If you have a lot of stuff you need to get rid of, you may need to call us in to remove some stuff about halfway through. This will give you more room to sort through the rest of your things. With most houses, you won’t have to do this. However, if you’ve inherited a home with a lot of stuff that you need to sort through or get rid of, you might need us to come out a couple of times.

Have a Plan to Maintain How Clean Your Home Is

Once you’ve finished your new year’s cleaning, you must ensure your home remains clean and junk-free throughout the rest of the year. That can be difficult, especially if you don’t often have a lot of free time to devote to cleaning.

You can do a few small things to help keep your home junk-free. First, simply make sure you don’t let some common trash build up. Old mail, newspapers, magazines, and similar items can end up creating piles of garbage on the counter or your coffee table. You should purge junk mail every day, and get rid of old magazines or newspapers when the next edition arrives.

If something breaks and you don’t plan on repairing it, get rid of it as soon as you can. That means giving Junk King a call for large items such as appliances and furniture. Don’t set these things in your garage with the plan of dealing with them later. You’ll likely forget about them, and they will take up space for months.

Why Junk King Dayton?

What can Junk King Dayton do for you? First of all, we can take almost anything from yard debris to old furniture. We’ll cart away old hot tubs, mattresses, sheds, decks, sofas, large wardrobes…anything you have that doesn’t include hazardous waste can go into one of our trucks. As mentioned earlier, you don’t need to move it to the curb or even to the front door. Just point our crew towards it and we will handle the rest. We’ll ensure the items are removed from your home safely and quickly without damaging your walls, floors, or other parts of the home.

Second, we provide you with a transparent estimate upfront. This estimate will include all fees and other charges associated with the job. There will never be any surprise additional costs because we will also do an in-person estimate when we arrive. While our phone, text, or online estimates can be very accurate for some common items, an in-person estimate is always best when you have a large job or some junk that is extra large or bulky. All of our estimates are completely free.

What Can You Do with Old Living Room Furniture?

What Can You Do with Old Living Room Furniture?

Your living room furniture gets a lot of use. You may spend hours on the sofa or in your favorite recliner. Your kids may bounce around on the furniture, while guests may make themselves very comfortable as you chat or watch TV together. Regardless of who is using it, your living room furniture is likely some of the most-used furniture you own. This means it can wear out more quickly than some of your other pieces.

What do you do with your living room furniture when it starts to show signs of wear and tear? You have a few different options, including calling Junk King Dayton to help you get rid of it. However, you may want to save that as a last resort since living room furniture can be somewhat expensive.

How Bad is the Wear and Tear?

For some, a few minor stains or a few small tears in the fabric isn’t that bad. If your sofa has a stain, you may simply flip the cushion over or put a throw blanket over it. You might be able to sew up small tears and rips. Any minor cosmetic damage doesn’t necessarily mean you have to toss the entire piece in the trash. Take a look at the damage and decide if it’s worth buying an entirely new piece of furniture. New sofas and nice recliners aren’t cheap, but you can get some really good deals if you wait for sales. One strategy is to continue using any furniture that shows minor wear and tear until a sale rolls around.

Buy a Cover

Another option for furniture that only has minor wear and tear is to buy a cover. Many stores sell couch and chair covers that slip over the piece and can give it a whole new look. While these covers may not necessarily be a good option for antique furniture or unique pieces, they’re great for basic sofas and chairs. Once you put the cover on, you won’t see any of those stains or rips.

They’re also perfect for those who want to change up the look of their living room since these covers come in a variety of colors. If your living room always seems dark, you can get white or light-colored covers to help brighten it up just a bit. You can even buy several different covers for each piece of furniture and rotate them out to refresh the room a few times a year. Best of all, if something does get spilled on one of these covers, all you have to do is take it off and toss it in the washing machine.

Reupholster the FurnitureReupholster the Furniture

If you want to take things one step further, you can reupholster the piece of furniture. This takes a lot more work than simply putting a cover over it, but the result can be much, much better. Essentially, reupholstering furniture involves removing all of the fabric and replacing it. You can replace it with something similar or go with something completely different. Often, the reupholstery process also means replacing missing fasteners, wood, foam, and other parts of the piece.

For those who are DIY experts, it’s very possible to do this yourself. You may need some specific tools, but overall, reupholstering furniture doesn’t require anything that’s too difficult to find unless you’re redoing an antique piece or a piece that uses leather or other hard to work with materials.

There are professionals who do upholstery, so if you don’t want to DIY it, you can take the piece to one of them. Depending on how large the piece is, the materials involved, and what you want done, this can be pricy. In many cases, though, it’s cheaper than buying a replacement.

Reupholstering furniture is often done when the piece gets rips and stains on it, but it can also be done when a piece is broken. It’s a good way of replacing armrests, legs, and other parts of the piece that have been damaged. Of course, this does depend on the professional. Some only deal with the fabric portions of furniture, while others may have woodworking experience and can repair those pieces, too. It’s also possible one of these experts or a professional furniture restorer can repair the frames and supports of a piece, allowing you to continue using it for years.

Move It to Another Room

If you have old living room furniture that doesn’t look so great but is still usable, you may want to simply move it to another room. This way, your guests won’t see it, but you’ll still get some use out of it. This is a good way to continue using furniture that has some minor damage but not enough to completely get rid of it. Your kids might love to have an old sofa in the basement or even in their bedroom if it fits.

Donate it

If there’s no room for the furniture in your home, you may want to consider donating it. You could give it to someone you know. For example, if you have a young relative who is about to move out on their own, they may need furniture but not have the money to buy new. They might jump at the chance to have a gently used sofa or recliner.

Another option is to call a local charity to see if they accept furniture. Some organizations do take living room furniture and donate it or resell it at very affordable prices for low-income families. Some of these groups will even come pick the furniture up, though you will want to make certain that’s a service they offer when you call them. If it’s not, you may not be able to donate the pieces if you don’t have a truck that can haul them.

Sell it

Another way of getting rid of old living room furniture that is still in good condition is to sell it. You can take it to a consignment shop if you have the means to do so, but you can also post it online. There are websites and social media pages dedicated to selling furniture, and you can often stipulate that the buyer has to come pick it up. That way, you don’t have to worry about having a truck for delivery. Of course, this does mean you will have to give the buyer your home address, which may give some people pause.

Call Junk King Dayton to Pick Up Your Old Living Room Furniture

What do you do with those pieces of living room furniture that you simply cannot be used any longer? Often, the only option is to get rid of them. Just like donating or selling them, though, there is the issue of getting the furniture to the landfill. You may be able to set one or two items out for bulk trash day, but the city doesn’t pick up bulk trash every week. You also have to schedule that pickup and must be able to get the furniture down to the curb.

Instead of dealing with all of that, you can make one single phone call to Junk King Dayton. Our crew will handle everything else. We will carry the furniture out of your living room and to the truck, so you don’t need to worry about getting it out of the house.

We Donate What We Can

While old furniture that is in really poor condition may end up in the landfill in some form, we first try to donate what we pick up. If the furniture is still usable, we’ll pass it along to one of our local partners. They see to it that these items get into the hands of those who need them.

If the furniture isn’t usable, we’ll check to see if it contains recyclable materials. If it does, we will remove those materials and take them to a local recycling center. Our goal is to donate or recycle as much as we possibly can to reduce how much junk ends up in the landfill. So much is already in the dump that many cities across the U.S. are running out of space. By reusing and recycling what we can, Junk King Dayton is doing our part to protect the environment.

Junk King Dayton is Dedicated to Reducing Our Impact on the Environment

Junk King Dayton is Dedicated to Reducing Our Impact on the Environment

When we’re young, we don’t really give any thought to where trash goes when the garbage truck picks it up. It magically vanishes, never to be seen again. As we get older and learn more about how the world works, though, we learn that it isn’t magic. Trash goes to a local landfill where it sits until it breaks down. This can take years. In order to get the most out of the space, some landfills compact garbage or arrange it in layers that can be buried by more junk or a layer of soil.

Even with using these techniques, there’s so much trash going into landfills that it still isn’t a fully sustainable model. The EPA notes that in 2018, the U.S. created almost three million tons of waste. Out of that, almost 150 million tons went to the landfill. The other 150 million tons were recycled (70 million tons), composted (25 million tons), food waste that was used in various ways (18 million tons), or combusted using energy transfer methods (35 million tons).

With almost half of the waste being redirected away from the landfill, it may seem like we’re managing our waste quite well. However, that’s not necessarily the case. The EPA also notes that our total waste generation has increased every year since the 1960s. While recycling rates have also jumped, there are still places where we can do better.

Junk King Dayton is dedicated to the environment and reducing our impact on it. We understand that we’re leaving the planet to our children and grandchildren. We have a duty to protect as much of the Earth as we can so they don’t have to clean up our garbage. Let’s look closer at the impact of the landfill on the environment and what we can do to reduce that impact.

It All Adds UpWhen It Comes To Our Trash - It All Adds Up

While three million tons of garbage is a lot, that’s just from one year. The EPA estimates that some 146 million tons of trash were in the landfill in 2018. Even if the U.S. held steady at the three million per year number, that means we’re now at over 158 million tons of junk in the landfill. That doesn’t count the waste that has been illegally dumped in the ocean, lakes, or rivers. That’s an entirely separate problem, especially since experts anticipate that the amount of plastic dumped in the ocean will tripled by 2040.

If e just focus on what has been legally put in landfills across the country, the breakdown is interesting and actually hopeful. Food waste makes up a little over 24 percent of landfill trash. This is organic waste, so it breaks down fairly quickly. The nutrients in this type of waste can seep into the ground and actually help the soil.

The next largest category is plastics. Plastic items make up about 18.5 percent of the trash in landfills. Plastics take a long time to break down—some may sit in the landfill for upwards of 500 years! Fortunately, some of these plastics can easily be recycled.

The same is true with several large categories of trash. Paper (almost 12 percent), metals (9.5 percent), glass (5 percent) and other trash can all be recycled. As more cities roll out municipal recycling programs and recycling technologies improve, the amount of garbage in the landfill may start to decrease.

What Happens if the Landfills Fill Up?

The U.S. has around 2,000 landfills that are currently in use. What happens with our trash when those landfills run out? According to experts, we’re going to find out within about 18 years. That amount of time may be even smaller than we thought now that China has banned the import of certain recyclable plastics. The U.S. sends around a sixth of all its plastic recyclables to China for recycling, but some of those plastics now have nowhere to go.

Even within the U.S., some states are already full. New York, for example, sends millions of tons of waste out of state to places like Alabama. What happens when there’s no more space anywhere? There are a few options.

First, it will force people and companies to start recycling. City garbage programs may simply stop taking paper, cardboard, and certain plastics. Those will have to go in a recycling bin. This will likely come with new city ordinances and protocols for garbage pickup to better identify those who are still putting recyclable materials in their garbage. Companies will need to look into new ways of sorting their waste so that recyclable materials are recycled.

Second, it will push forward the development of new recycling technology. Necessity is the mother of invention, as they say, and it is becoming necessary that we recycle as much as we possibly can.

Third, the U.S. will need to start looking at other ways of dealing with its waste. Some countries have turned to burning trash. There are transfer stations in the U.S. that burn trash to create energy, and we may see more and more of these stations go into operation over the next decade or so. This process has to be done correctly, though, or we will simply go from polluting the land to polluting the air.

Fourth, companies will need to look at ways of using less packaging for their products or using different materials. In some places this is obvious. For example, some frozen pizzas come packaged on a piece of cardboard sealed in plastic and then put in an additional box. That’s a lot of packaging for one item.

What About New Landfills? What About New Landfills?

Land that could be used for new landfills is becoming less and less available. Many people don’t want a new landfill put in near their residence, while businesses often also protest if the city tries to put one in near their location. There are also major concerns about pollution. Landfills cannot be places too near rivers, lakes, or the coastline because there’s the risk of contaminating the water.

Rather than create new landfills, the best option is to increase how much we recycle or reuse while also reducing the amount of waste we create.

What Does Junk King Dayton Do to Help the Environment?

Junk King aims to help protect the environment by reducing the amount of waste that goes into the landfill. We do this with everything we collect, whether it goes in our truck or in one of our dumpsters. First, we take out anything that could be used by someone else, including furniture and appliances. If you have a sofa that’s still in good condition or an old refrigerator that still works, we’ll make certain it gets passed on to a local organization that needs it or can get it to those in need. This keeps these items out of the landfill, plus it helps those in and around Dayton who need a little assistance.

If something can’t be reused, we’ll see if it can be recycled. We’ve partnered with various recycling centers in Dayton to handle the recyclables we bring in. We don’t just pass on cardboard and glass, either. We’ll disassemble furniture and appliances to get the metals and other materials out of them.

We also recycle electronics. There’s a large amount of plastic and precious metals found in most electronic devices. These precious metals include gold, copper, and palladium, all of which can be quite valuable. By recycling these materials, we’re helping to keep the costs of future electronics from getting out of hand. Once we’ve redirected usable items and pulled out the recyclables, there’s usually only about a third of all the junk we picked up left to go to the landfill. We’re always looking to reduce that amount even more, too.

What Does Junk King Haul Off?

We will take just about anything you have, including old furniture, appliances, electronics, yard waste, and construction debris. The only thing we’re unable to take are items classified as hazardous waste. If you have items that are considered hazardous, we may be able to direct you to a disposal team that can take them, but for our safety, we cannot.

How Does it Work?

Junk King Dayton has a very simple and easy to use process. Once you have gathered the junk and trash you want us to haul off, you give us a call. We will provide you with a free, no-obligation estimate that will include all of the costs and fees of the job. When we arrive, we’ll do a quick in-person estimate to confirm the price.

In addition to calling us, you can also text us photos and information about the items you need hauled away to 1-737-888-5865. Again, we’ll confirm everything with an in-person estimate, but this will give us a good idea of the scope of the job and give you a good idea of the cost. You can also use our online price estimation tool and book your appointment online.

Hire Junk King To Remove All Your Useless Junk

When you determine something is useless, it gets tossed out or tucked away. Holding onto a useless item only makes sense if that is something that can’t be thrown out in the trash. That is especially true with things like old computers and televisions. However, you should never be put in the garbage and end up in a landfill. Other useless items like furniture and appliances are also too oversized for a trash can. This doesn’t mean you have to keep those items. Instead, starting today, you can set up a session with Junk King Dayton to have all your useless junk cleared away.

Flexible Appointment

Junk King appreciates how valuable your time is. However, they understand that when you decide to get rid of your useless junk, you want it to happen as quickly as possible. Therefore, when you call Junk King, you will first be asked if you have a flexible schedule to accommodate the same-day pickup. These appointments are available depending on crew availability when you call. But it could mean you might be a few hours away from getting rid of all that useless stuff.

You can also schedule your appointment at a time that works better for you, like later in the day or on the weekend. Then, when you make your appointment, you can count on the Junk King crew to do all the work for you. That means picking up any heavy object you are cleared out of the home right from the spot. Then, the Junk King crew will go down to the basement or up on the second floor to get those things you want to be cleared away. You will enjoy working with this friendly and helpful crew.

Don’t get stuck with useless junk in your home. Have it all removed by Junk King Dayton. Book your removal session today.
