San Antonio Recycling News

San Antonio has a 10 year recycling plan intended to significantly reduce the amount of trash that ends up in landfills. One aspect of the plan is an organics recycling program. This was given a test run by the city’s Solid Waste Management Department and was proven to be a success. The idea is that residents will be given a third recycling cart which is meant strictly for organic waste such as food scraps, leaves or other natural debris. These organics will be collected by the city and then turned into compost. However, a city councilman is putting the brakes on moving forward asking for more study.

Councilman Carlton Soules asked for a “council consideration request”  for a comprehensive review of the plan. He isn’t opposed to organic recycling per se; he just feels that it might make better sense to encourage folks to do their own composting as opposed to adding expenses of providing carts for everyone. Mayor Julian Castro agreed to take up the request after the council adopts the annual budget.

For that pilot program, the city provided 30,000 green carts in four council districts. Everyone who got a cart seemed happy to comply. At issue is the scope of San Antonio’s plan. In 201 the city council approved a measure that set the goal at 60% recycling rate by the year 2020. Soules thinks that 40% is a more realistic approach. Now the council is dividing itself between those who want to push for the 60% or coast to the 40%. Obviously, this is an issue that is going to be at the heart of many future council meetings.

When it comes to recycling items that can’t fit into those carts, your best option would be to hire Junk King. Junk King is the local San Antonio based business who is already on board with the concept of recycling. In fact, their recycling rate is closer to 65%. That means that over 65% of all the junk they collect from area residents is diverted away from the landfills. This makes Junk King the perfect recycling partner for your needs.

When Junk King recycles they are doing so with the big stuff. Oversize items like mattresses, sofas, bed frames and kitchen appliances can all be repurposed and reused. The trick is making sure those items get to the right recycling center. Junk King makes drop-offs at those centers nearly every day. It’s part of the complete service provided by Junk King for everyone of their customers. Best of all, there is no extra charge for recycling. You’ll be paying for the amount of space your junk takes up in their truck. Nothing more, nothing less. When it comes to recycling the big stuff, Junk King is the only way to go.

San Antonio Bulk Pickup

Do you know the proper way to lift a heavy object? It’s with the legs and not the back. If squats are part of your gym workout then you’ve probably got this concept nailed. The power should be transferred to your quads. If you’ve ever seen a mover or warehouse worker wearing a back brace that is to serve as a reminder to them not to use their backs. Anyone who has thrown out their back knows this is not a pleasant situation to be in.

Oddly enough, you could go into back spasms with a bunch of sneezes. One of the reasons often cited by chiropractors as why backs go into spasm is dehydration. Yes, if you drank more water you’re back would be better off. Most back spasms or pulled muscles occur when we try to lift a heavy object. When the weight of the object is more than your body can endure, your back muscles stretch like taffy but they aren’t elastic. Welcome to the pain.

This could be why you’re holding onto a lot of junk; it’s too heavy to move. Consider the old sofa. After a couch has lived out its usefulness you’ll replace it with a new model. What happens to the old sofa? It can’t be put out on the curb or in the garbage so it gets shoved into another room or into the garage. Shoving isn’t the same as lifting. You can push that sofa a lot easier then you can pick it up or try to load it onto your pickup. That’s where the sofa will now live for years. How many items do you have like that in your home? Something that is big and bulky that just got shoved out of the way? Isn’t it time to get rid of those things? Now you can with the help of Junk King San Antonio.  Best of all, Junk King will do all the heavy lifting.

Junk King is proud to be part of the San Antonio business community. In that role they have been helping many residents clean out the clutter of this lives by removing all kinds of bulky items from their garages, basements, attics and closets. A Junk King crew will consist of two experienced movers. You can bet these guys are lifting with their legs! They also know how to navigate around corners, up stairs or down a driveway without bumping into walls or scuffing up your floor. Junk King takes pride in its reputation as a dependable junk removal service. It can only earn that reputation if the workers live up to a standard of excellence.

Call Junk King San Antonio today to discuss how they can help you toss out all those bulky items which are taking up space in your home and around your property. Remember, you won’t have to lift a finger!

Signs That It’s Time To Call In A San Antonio Junk Removal Specialist

There is a fine line between hoarding and collecting. Rachel Dealy, has turned her love of collecting into a thriving business called Collective. It’s become a great go-to spot in downtown San Antonio when you need that one-of-a-kind gift. The storefront was born out of Rachel’s love for rummage sales, estates sales, garage sales and thrift shops. After several years of bargain hunting, Rachel found herself surrounded by all she had acquired and decided to turn it loose onto the world.

“I had accumulated enough clothes and furniture and other stuff that I had to hold an estate sale before I could leave,” she told a local newspaper. “And even after that, I filled a U-Haul to come back to Texas. Whenever I walk into an antiques shop, I light up,” she says. “I get some sort of endorphin rush. I don’t hoard,” she says. “I acquire. I pick up things that I see value in. If it’s cool, I want it. If it’s a good price, I want it. If it’s a project that I could work on, I want it.”

She also shares the space of her store with a rotating roster of local artists who are offered the opportunity to sell their work on consignment. It’s a 3,000 square foot space just chock full of all kinds of objects. Now, there are some cynical types who would pass by a store like Collective and think, “It’s all junk.” But what might be junk to someone is a valued treasure to someone else. As with beauty, junk is in the eye of the beholder.

You might think that you could turn your junk into gold or at least some cash. There might be a way to do that but not without a lot of effort. A yard sale is always the good way to go. To pull that off you have to drag everything you want sold out to your front yard bright and early. Hopefully you spent the day before putting up posters otherwise how will anybody find out about your sale? At the end of the day whatever you haven’t sold you have to drag back in. You could leave it on your lawn and hope someone might take it but one night in the great outdoors and you’ve created trash.

Bottom line: if you’re committed to getting rid of your junk then just do it. Call in a junk specialist and get it over with. That junk specialist would be Junk King San Antonio. They are the professional movers based right here in San Antonio who make it their business to clean up your clutter. Whatever you want tossed out, they’ll load up on their truck and you can wave good-bye. Get real: your junk is just junk. Get it gone with Junk King San Antonio.

E Waste Recycling In San Antonio

When it comes to e-waste recycling in San Antonio there are many options at your disposal. According to the Texas Campaign for the Environment the first option should be can you re-use the item? If we’re talking about something like an old television then it is conceivable that the TV could be put into a spare room or with one of the kids. But if you’ve got a great HDTV in the family room nobody is going to want to watch TV on that old set. If you donate the TV you’re just kicking the can down the road. In other words, if you don’t want the TV are you sure someone else might?

Then there is the issue of what to do with old computers. Here is where the Texas state legislature stepped up to the plate and instituted a “take back” law. Now manufacturers have to take back an old computer and dispose of it properly. But there’s a hitch: You’ve got to take the computer back. In some cases you also have to arrange for shipping. Yes, you might get a rebate coupon good for the purchase of a new computer but you’ll have to do all the busy work.

As for cell phones the TCE is happy to take them off your hands but you have to drop them off at their offices. Guess what? They don’t have a branch in San Antonio. Once again you’re stuck. That’s why you could go through anybody’s home or apartment and chances are you’d find plenty of computer towers, lap tops, monitors, fax machines and all kinds of other e-waste shoved into a closet or under a bed. All of that junk is taking up valuable space just collecting dust. If you want to get rid of it once and for all you’re going to have to call the pros. In this case the pros would be Junk King San Antonio.

Junk King is the San Antonio based business who specializes in e-waste removal among other types of junk hauling. There have been many reports about shady dealers who take in e-waste and end up dumping in a landfill or shipping it off to some country for them to deal with. That’s not going to happen with Junk King. They’ll make sure your e-waste gets to the right recycling center. In fact, they take that same approach with all of your junk. If it can be recycled, Junk King San Antonio will see to it that it is dropped off at the right facility. You’re not going to get that level of attention from some guy riding around your neighborhood in a pickup truck looking for junk. When you want your all of your junk, no matter how big or small, removed responsibly from your home then the only call you should make is to Junk King.

San Antonio Treadmill and Exercise Machine Disposal

When you’re serious about getting in shape, you’re much better off signing up for a gym membership at a certified club. It’s a safe place to work out. Case in point: two men tried to break into a San Antonio gym thinking they could get away with some easy cash. Why they thought there would be cash in the gym isn’t clear. These were not the smartest of robbers. Of course, they didn’t get very far with their scheme. That’s because when they broke into the gym they surprised a group of mixed martial arts fighters who were busy training. Picture that scenario: On one side are two scrawny break-in in burglars and on the other side are some buffed up MMA fighters. Who do you think came out the winner in that match-up? Luckily, the burglars were detained without harm and the police were called in to do their thing. But it does point out the gym is indeed a safe place to work-out.

It’s also a smart place to work-out. At any given time you’re going to find a lot of experts working at the gym as trainers who can help you with a quick question about a machine or routine. Depending on the gym, you could also find a lot of options when it comes to staying in shape. Not only will there be a variety of equipment but you’ll also have the opportunity to sign up for all kinds of classes for spinning, aerobics, weight training, kick boxing and MMA! Doesn’t it make sense to have experts and variety for your work out?

Which brings us to the issue of your home treadmill. Mistake purchase? Maybe not at the time. But over the months (or years) of monotonous treadmill workouts you’re going to become bored. With boredom comes the end of any workout commitment. Let’s face it; if you haven’t climbed on that treadmill in the last six months than chances are that ship has sailed. Maybe it’s time to let it go. The same can be said for any other kind of home gym equipment. We’ve all seen those gizmos advertised on TV that promise flatter stomachs or smaller thighs. The truth is that if you’re serious about getting into shape and staying there then a gym is your best option. And to get rid of that treadmill Junk King San Antonio is your only option!

Junk King is the local San Antonio TX business that is dedicated to helping you reclaim your home space. Couldn’t you think of a better use for that corner where the treadmill lives? Of course you can. One call to Junk King San Antonio will get you on the road to recovery as in recovering that space! Start working out in the gym today and you’ll be in amazing shape just in time for the holidays.

Cool Off By Clearing Clutter in Your San Antonio Home

When it comes to the ultimate way of staying cool in San Antonio this summer there are two words that spring to mind: water park. Most of the locals have already discovered the benefits of spending the day at such a nearby world-class attractions such as Six Flags. Just on the northwest outskirts of town at Six Flags there is a Texas sized and shaped wave pool and plenty of winding waterslides.

Heading west from the city you’ll find the Seaworld Aquatica water park they opened for business just this year. This is a state-of-the-art water park that features multiple waterslides and underwater rides all in a lush tropical setting. Visitors can even cool off among herds of brown stingrays but don’t worry these are the nonlethal kind!

Towards the east is Splashtown which also has multiple water rides, wave pools and some really fast slides. While these water parks are great diversions it’s not like you can move in and take up residence. Most of the time you’ll be stuck your own home or apartment looking for less intense ways to stay cool.

It’s important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids whether you’re indoors or outdoors. It’s recommended that when the thermometer goes up you should stay indoors with the air conditioning auditioning flowing. If you don’t have AC, then being close to a circulating fan can do the trick. What might be standing in your way of having a complete cool down experience is whether or not that cool air can be properly circulated in your own home. In other words, if you’ve got a lot of clutter you’re not going to catch a breeze! To maximize the airflow you need to minimize your junk.

It might seem counter-intuitive to take on a labor-intensive project like cleaning the junk out of your home when it is sweltering outside. Actually, it’s the perfect time for that kind of assignment especially if you hire Junk King San Antonio. Junk King is the San Antonio base business’s mission is to clear out any home, apartment or business. What’s great about working with Junk King is that they’ll do all the heavy lifting. You could literally stay in a chair in front of your AC while directing the Junk King crew to remove whatever you want taken away. In other words, let them break a sweat!

A Junk King crew will make all the necessary trips up and down stairs, in and out of garage and to and fro your backyard in order to accomplish the task of getting rid of your junk. You won’t have to worry about paying by the hour for this type of service. Instead you’ll pay a terrific rate based on the amount of space you take up in the truck. Once your junk has been removed you’ll be amazed at how much better the cool air can move around your home. Of course, you can still go to the water park just know that you’ll be coming home to a clutter free zone!

Why Junk Removal is Getting Big in San Antonio

“Everything’s bigger in Texas.” That’s a very popular slogan that many locals are happy to share with out-of-towners. Usually, this will happen when someone is delivered a fresh piece of grilled steak that is as big as their head!

That slogan can always apply to your home that is overflowing with junk. If everything is bigger in Texas then maybe you’ve got more junk than you can handle. What’s that doing for your home value? What about the value of your neighbor’s home? We’ve all seen “those houses.” You know the ones with the car up on blocks in the driveway. Or an above ground pool that hasn’t been used in years. Or old furniture sitting out on the porch. Does that describe your home? It doesn’t have to be that way; especially when there is experience help in the form of the pros at Junk King San Antonio standing by to help you get rid of all that junk once and for all.

There are some folks who travel all around the country and the world and bring back all kinds of trinkets and treasures they are proud to put on display. But you don’t even have to leave San Antonio to get all kinds of junk piled up in your home. Sometimes that junk begins as leftovers from a home improvement project. Instead of hauling the construction waste off to a dump yard it gets piled up alongside the garage. There could be left over Cinco de Mayo party decorations that can never be used. Maybe it’s an old fridge that is totally busted but what can you do? You know you’re not supposed to put these things out on the curb. You might even feel guilty about tossing them out because you paid good money for them at one point. That’s true but ask yourself, “Are you ever going to use this junk again?” If the answer is a quick “no” then you know what has to be done. Get it gone!

When you make the smart move to hire the professional junk haulers at Junk King, you’ll be getting some expert help. You might not think you need to be an expert to haul out a heavy piece of furniture but if you’ve ever thrown out your back then you know how important it is to “lift things right.” That’s what these experienced junk haulers will be able to do: move the right way. They’ll also have a big enough truck to hold whatever you’re tossing out. Even though the pick-up is the most popular truck in San Antonio, there is just so much that a pick-up bed can hold. Remember “everything is bigger in Texas.” So how big will your junk pile be? No matter how big, it’s going to be a distant memory once the pros get a hold of it!

Recycling News in San Antonio

There’s a big change coming to San Antonio SeaWorld Park. We’re not talking about the arrival of a baby whale or some new dolphin tricks but instead the banning of plastic bags. By this time next year visitors at the San Antonio SeaWorld Park souvenir shops will be offered a choice of either a 100% recycled paper bag or purchasing a reusable cloth bag to hold all their trinkets and souvenirs.

According to Angie Llanas, an animal ambassador at SeaWorld San Antonio, this is a major problem “At this park alone, we go through 800,000 plastic bags a year,” she said. “Taking that out of the mix can really have an effect on the environment.”  Not only is this an issue for San Antonio residents but also for all the denizens living under the sea. Recent estimates put the amount of plastic bags that end up in the ocean at around 1.4 billion pounds. That is billion with a B!

It’s not just the ocean that has to deal with all of this garbage but also many of the waterways like the ones that are home to animals like Spike, the alligator snapping turtle found in Texas and the southeastern U.S. What happens when a plastic bag makes its way into the water is that a creature like a sea turtle thinks it’s a jellyfish and gobbles it up. That can cause major problems for that beastie.

“We don’t want that, so anything we can do to help, that’s great,” Mark Miller, a park visitor from the Woodlands near Houston, told the local news. A program like this one is a perfect way to inspire the next generation of recyclers; that would be your kids.

The lesson here is that if they’re all are always alternatives when it comes to sending trash to a landfill or throwing it onto the street. You might already have your kids involved in a recycling program around the house. Once you teach them how to sort kitchen garbage it’s easy to fall into the routine of weekly recycling. The one drawback with this type of program is that you are only able to recycle whatever you could fit into your recycling bin. This is going to leave a lot of items earmarked for a landfill unless you team up with Junk King San Antonio.

Junk King is the San Antonio based business that specializes in junk removal of any size. The Junk King crews have been instructed that when they come across an item which can be recycled they need to make sure it ends up at the proper facility. This includes stuff like your unwanted furniture, mattress or scrap metal pieces. With Junk King San Antonio on your team you can rest assured that every effort will be taken to keep your garbage away from a landfill. That’s good for the kids and all creatures great and small!

San Antonio Cardboard Disposal and Recycling

The internet is a wonderful research asset we all have access to. Even somebody without a computer can head over to their local library and log on to get answers to any questions. For instance, supposed you’re sitting in your San Antonio home or apartment surrounded by piles and piles of cardboard and you wanted to get rid of it all? The obvious answer would be to go to the internet and ask the cyber world, “Where can I recycle cardboard in San Antonio?” Here are the actual top two answers to that question:

“The apartments we live in don’t recycle, so we take our items elsewhere that can be recycled. The only thing we can’t locate is a place to take cardboard! The drop off bins @ schools accept all forms of paper EXCEPT cardboard. – All of the recycling agencies on the city site don’t reference cardboard on their sites. ACCO Waste Paper of San Antonio” takes paper, but they don’t say if they charge or if you can drop off. Anyone have experience with this?!”

While that might not be a big help, this message was followed up with the following:

“Try earth911 I found two agencies that have listed themselves on this site as accepting cardboard. Since this information can change, you will want to contact the companies directly first. One of them is Greenstar, an Ireland-based company which actually has a facility in my area (Oklahoma City) and who has done some of the recycling for the Recycling Center that my husband and I run. Fortunately, here in Oklahoma, OEMA (Oklahoma Environmental Management Association) provides cardboard recycling bins. My Recycling Center has four of them. We did have five, but someone burned one of them down on July 4.”

So the answer to where to recycle cardboard in San Antonio is provided by someone living in Oklahoma. Okay, so maybe you have to dig a little deeper to get the right answers you’re looking for. Of course, you could just call up Junk King San Antonio and be done with it!

Junk King is the San Antonio based business which has been removing all kinds of junk from businesses and homes including cardboard boxes. What’s great about Junk King is that they’re not just going to be acting as super charged garbage men. Yes, they’ll come into your homes and pick up any item you want removed but they’re also going to strive to make sure that item is properly disposed of. In the case of cardboard, this means dropping that off at the San Antonio recycling center which handles that type of product.

When you hire Junk King San Antonio you have the option of filling up their truck or just getting rid of a couple of items. The choice is yours but know that whatever choice you make, you’ll be doing right by the environment by hiring Junk King.

San Antonio Spring Junk Removal

A group of Texas A&M student volunteers are spending their spring break far away from the maddening crowds and instead have chosen to cover themselves in muck. They’ve slipped on the waders and are trudging through the marshes at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge for a learning retreat that is helping clean up Liberty Pond. Part of this project includes removing the aggressive Water Hyacinths from one the ponds. This could only be accomplished by wading in waist-deep water and kayaking to pick up the plants by hand one at a time. If these particular plants aren’t trimmed back, they can quickly overwhelm this delicate eco-system.

One of the students from the San Antonio area told a local newspaper about why she is doing this while a lot of her classmates are off sunning themselves. “This is what I love. I could do this every day. Even though I am exhausted, it is not like work. It is fun.” That includes the bout of poison ivy she got while on the clean up grew!

This kind of story certainly puts your own spring cleaning project in perspective. You’re only dealing with cleaning up your home or yards; you’re not going into waist deep pond water! You’ll also be working indoors which means access to cool drinks and fun tunes. Plus, you’re entitled to take as many breaks as you want. One advantage that the Liberty Pond cleanup effort has it there is an entire team doing the work. That will certainly make it go faster. Fortunately, you’ve got the exact same opportunity to have your own team. Call it team Junk King San Antonio.

Junk King is the San Antonio based business of professional junk haulers who have multiple crews and trucks standing by to be dispatched for any junk removal chores. How Junk King can work with you is by helping get rid of the clutter from your home before you clean. This is all that junk you’ve been staring at for months and years wondering when it’s going to disappear. Instead of waiting for magic, just call Junk King. They will make it disappear for sure! Another approach would be to call Junk King after your spring cleaning. That’s because you might discover a lot more junk you want to throw out as you clean through closets, under beds and in garages. All you need to do is start a pile for Junk King. Even if that pile grows as big as your own home, Junk King San Antonio won’t freak out. Whatever you throw at the crews, chances are they’ve seen worse! As soon as that clutter is gone from your home, then you’ll be able to do a deep cleaning like never before. It’s a perfect way to kick off the spring!
