Backyard Clean-Outs

Backyard clean-outs are a hallmark of autumn. As the leaves turn and the plant life quiets down in preparation of winter, it’s much easier to judge the state of your yard and make improvements. Junk King Austin has some tips to help you with your backyard clean-outs:

  • Prepare
It is only frustrating to clear a Saturday for yard work only to discover that you don’t have gloves or a shovel. Take stock of your tools and make sure everyone has a pair of gloves and that there are plenty of trash bags, shears, rakes, and shovels.
  • Assess and Organize
While you’re assessing your tools, take a cursory glance at the space you’ll be working in. What needs to happen for your backyard clean-out to be a success? Jot down a list to help you from feeling overwhelmed when it’s time to work.
  • Feed the Plants
Plants need extra nutrients in the colder months. Help them along with some fertilizer.
  • Get Rid of the Excess
If you have old outdoor furniture, an unwanted deck, or a broken hot tub, take the steps to have it removed. Call Junk King for a free estimate and we will do all the work for you – and even clean up after ourselves when we are done. Guest Rooms

With September 23rd moving closer and closer, we are all looking forward to ushering in a new season: Autumn. With autumn comes the end-of-the-year holiday rush.

Thanksgiving and Christmas means families come together. If you’ve played host, you probably know well how stressful it can be to cram people into spare bedrooms. Get a jump start this year on holidays by preparing your guest rooms now. Since these rooms aren’t regularly occupied, they can become a catch-all for random objects and outdated furniture. September and October, before the holiday craziness truly hits, is the ideal time to clean out those rooms.

Whether you’re sifting through closets and under beds, or if you want to redecorate your spare rooms, Junk-King Austin is here to help. Did you know we haul away furniture? We will help with all of your junk removal needs, be they in the air conditioning or outside. Let us help make your holiday season less stressful.

Lunch Foods

Eating the right foods is an important part of being healthy. Unfortunately, this can become a struggle with packing lunches. All too often, it seems easier to throw in a bag of chips than to think about a balanced diet. Here are some fresh ideas to spruce up lunch foods for you and your kids:

  • Make wraps using whole wheat tortillas. Add avocados to a BLT wrap, or orange sliced to a grilled chicken wrap.
  • Get creative with whole wheat pita pockets. Instead of mayonnaise, spread creamy cheese (like Boursin). Add lunch meats and throw in some greens, like spinach, cucumber slices, or arugula.
  • Pack flax seed chips with home made salsa and avocados.

Digging through the kitchen can be a pain. Outdated cookware, old dishes, and expired foods haunt pantries and cabinets. Junk-King Austin can help streamline your lunch-making process by decluttering your kitchen. While we’re there, we can tackle your garage, attic, guest room, garden shed, and closets. Keep in mind that Junk-King Austin donates or recycles up to 60% of what we pick up – making your cleaned house good for the environment and your community.

Junk Removal

With the start of school, time spent together as a family can be rare. Kids are in and out of the house – at school, with friends, and participating in extracurricular activities. Parents play taxi service for their young children, juggling work, running a household, and their own hobbies and friends.

With everyone managing their own busy lives, it’s alarmingly easy to amass items no one needs or uses. Clothes that don’t fit, shoes rarely worn, pool toys outgrown, yard work tools collecting dust. This clutter of things takes up space in your home that could be used more wisely.

At Junk-King Austin, we believe that family is of the utmost importance. Our junk removal services will help fee space in your home, garage, attic, business, and shed. Since time spent together as a family is precious, don’t waste it cleaning out the garage. Let Junk-King Austin help leave your home and family in a happier state.

Back To School

Making the transition back to school is a tough time of year for both parents and kids. The sudden changes in daily routine and responsibilities can leave everyone stressed out. Here are some tips to help make the transition easier.

- Reintroduce the Schedule: Two weeks before school starts back, reinstate the school year bed time. Similarly, begin waking your children up earlier and earlier until they wake up at their normal school year wake up time.

- Create a Morning Checklist: Giving kids a concrete list of things they need to take care of can help them get used to their responsibilities, and serves as a reminder so nothing is forgotten.

- Set the House Clocks Ahead: Changing your house clocks so they read 10 minutes fast gives everyone a head start.

With school starting back, you may notice a lot of out-grown clothes, unneeded paperwork, torn backpacks, and other items leftover from school years past. Junk-King Austin will clean out closets, rooms, sheds, garages, and attics, giving you extra time and space to enjoy your family. Junk-King Austin is committed to minimizing waste and serving our community. You can feel even better watching our red trucks drive away with your unwanted clutter knowing that we recycle up to 60% of what we haul away.

Yard Waste and Gardening In Texas

Texas is notorious for having hot summers. For those who want a fall vegetable garden, this means putting in some extra sweat in July and August. These are the perfect months to put in raised beds, till the earth, and prepare the soil.

If you are new to gardening, here are some tips:

  •  Hot, dry weather can be difficult to start seeds. Try soaking larger seeds (beans, peas, okra, etc) overnight between two wet paper towels.
  • Frequent watering (several times a day) immediately after planting can help seeds germinate. After it sprouts, don’t forget to cut back on water – young plants can drown.
  • Although some authorities recommend full sun for plants like peppers and tomatoes, we understand that Texas summers can be scorching. Try to plant your garden in an area that provides shelter from the afternoon sun.

If you’re considering getting some yard work done, keep Junk-King Austin in mind. We haul yard waste (among other things, including appliances and other unwanted items), meaning you can take a well earned break from the Texas heat while we tidy up your property!

Austin Home Organization Tips

Home organization is a constant process. Whether in the kitchen, bedrooms, study, or garage, there always seems to be unneeded clutter. At Junk-King Austin, we want to help our community in the greater Austin area become more organized.

When unpacking clothes in preparation for the next season, do you ever get the feeling you don’t wear all of them? Here’s a tip to help you determine which clothes to cut from your wardrobe:

In The Closet:
When you first hang up all the clothes for the coming season, hang them up backwards so the hanger points toward you instead of the wall. When you wear the item, hang it back up normally. At the end of the season, get rid of the clothes still hanging the wrong way.

In The Dresser:
When you put away your clothes at the start of a new season, fold and stack them so the necks point toward you. When they are worn and washed, stack them with the necks pointing away. When it’s time to pack up for the next season, get rid of the clothes with the necks still pointing at you.

If you find your attic or garage is full of unwanted clothes, give Junk-King a call and we will pick them up for you, along with anything else you want removed from your home. Not only will we save you time and effort, we recycle up to 60% of what we pick up – making your cleaned space good for your community as well as your home.
