Smart Approach To Getting A Good Night’s Sleep

We spend at least one third of every day sleeping. At least, that should be the goal. Sleep is when your body gets to slow down, recuperate and reboot. Without sleep we can become irritable and that is just the start of many potential health problems. How is your sleep? You can step up your sleeping game by incorporating these smart tips:

Limit Naps

Naps have proven to be an effective way to “recharge” in the middle of the day but they should be used with limits. Don’t ever dose off without setting the clock. The ideal power nap should be under 30 minutes. Anything longer and you run the risk of messing up your sleep cycles.

Be Consistent

Speaking of your sleep cycles, our bodies are hardwired to be awake when the sun is up and asleep when the sun is down. That is why we need it to be dark to fall into a deep sleep. It helps if you are consistent with your sleeping cycles. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Sadly, that includes the weekends. If you sleep in to “make up” sleep you’ve missed, then you’re just throwing off the cycles and creating more trouble.

Fight Off After Dinner Drowsiness

Are you the type of person who gets drowsy after dinner? That is totally understandable but something you need to fight off. Instead of getting comfy on the sofa, try to keep busy at a minimal level. Wash the dishes or call a friend. Get things ready for the next day. Just don’t do any heavy exercises because that will throw off your sleeping patterns. When it is time to get to be, you will still be sufficiently drowsy to does off.

Get a Better Mattress

What you sleep on is going to have a major influence on how you sleep. An old mattress isn’t doing you any favors. If your mattress is over eight years old, then it is time to get it replaced. You can help that process along by setting up a mattress removal appointment with Junk King Albany. When you turn over your old mattress and the rest of your junk to Junk King Albany, you’re sure to get a good night’s sleep.

Get Your Bike Ready For Riding

It is safe to say that we’re done with winter. It’s time to focus on all the fun that spring has waiting for us. Will that mean bringing up the bike from down in the basement? If you want to get your bike ready for riding, then put these tips into action:

Adjust Seat

Believe it or not, you might have grown since the last time you rode your bike. Even a half inch can make a difference with your seat to pedal ration. You’ll want to tighten and adjust your seat before using it. If the leather on your seat is worn out and springs are poking through, then it needs to be replaced before it can be ridden.

Check Tire Pressure

Just as with your car, your bike tires can lose pressure if they just sit for a while. You will probably need to pump them up before hitting the road. If you haven’t invested in a pump already, then now is the time to order one. Be sure to follow the recommendations for tire pressure. You don’t want to over inflate.

Tighten Wheel Spokes

A spoke wrench should be a part of your bike tool kit. A good version of this tool can adjust to fit many different size spokes. Checking each spoke on your wheels could be a bit time consuming but can save you in the long run. After this initial inspection, you should get into the habit of checking your spokes every couple of months.

Check Brake Levers

You should pull on your brake levers to make sure they’re both engaging. If the pull is too long before connecting, then make the appropriate adjustments. Fast braking is crucial especially with any riding on city streets. Also check the brake cables to make sure they aren’t frayed. Finally, check your brake pads to make sure they are hitting the rims as they should and they aren’t worn down.

Adjust Derailleurs and Shifters

The best way to inspect your derailleurs and shifters is with a bike stand that will allow you to place your bike upside down. That way you can easily run through your gears. You’ll look for smooth adjustments and shifts.

Check Your Chain

Bicycle chain tension can be checked by pressing your fingers against the top chain. The goal is that it shouldn’t move than 1/4 to 1/2-inch. A loose chain can easily slip off while riding. Over time, a chain can stretch so the whole thing might need replacing.
