Tips For Making The Switch To A Toddler Bed

Remember those cute onsies you had for your little one? How fast did they grow out of them? One thing is for sure, kids grow up fast. The first couple of years are all about crib time but now they’ve outgrown the crib and are ready to make the switch to a toddler bed. Here are some good tips on how to make that a smooth transition:

Lock Down the Bedtime Routine

Before you make the big transition, you have to make sure you’ve got a regular bedtime routine locked down. That includes any and all rituals it takes to get your kid to drift off to slumber land. This might be a good time to finally stop and drinks in the crib/bed before sleep. The goal is that the only difference will be where the child goes to sleep, not how.

Get Them Excited

You want to get your toddler excited about the idea of “big kid” beds. That can start with any young family members like cousins or other siblings who are already snoozing in their own beds. There are also a lot of books on the subject. Just as you probably used books for potty training, you can also get the toddler excited by introducing the concept through their “reading material.”

Wait Until Potty Training Is Done

You don’t want to introduce a bed while your toddler is still going through potty training. That same thing applies if you’re moving to a new house. You just don’t want to overload them with new concepts. Even after the potty training is complete, you’ll probably want to keep them in training diapers for the first few weeks.

Position the Bed in the Same Spot as the Crib

It will help if your little one can look up and see all the familiar corners and walls that he was used to in the crib. That’s why you’ll want to put the bed in the same spot as the crib.

Once the switch has been made, there won’t be any going back. That means you’ll have a crib and some other baby furniture that is not being used. You can hang onto it for a little while just in case there might be another “surprise.” When you’re ready to get rid of that old baby furniture, turn it over to Junk King Chicago West. These are expert junk haulers who can not only move those heavy items out of the house but they can also take them apart first. And with Junk King on the job, that furniture won’t go to waste. They’ll make every effort to donate it to a local charity where it can help a family in need. To make the toddler bed switch, you’ll need help with furniture hauling from Junk King Chicago West.
