A decent car should last you from five to six years. A mattress for eight years. This is about the same length of time that your major kitchen appliances like stoves, washers, dryers and refrigerators should last as well. This means that when it is time to replace those appliances, you might consider “splurging.” Digging deep into your savings to come up with those extra couple of hundred dollars can make all the difference when it comes to the longevity of that appliance.
Consider your fridge. It might be the most expensive appliance in your kitchen. It also happens to be the one appliance that is constantly running. You never turn your refrigerator off. That means it should be of high quality from a dependable manufacturer. You can probably pick up a used fridge on the cheap. Of course, you’ll just end up buying a new icebox when that antique goes up in a couple of months. Also, if you’re planning on adding to the family any time soon, you might find that you’ll quickly outgrow your old fridge.
