Backyard Trampoline Safety Tips For Family Fun

There can be many big “toys” in your backyard like a swing set, tree fort or trampoline that can bring hours of fun for the whole family. However, it is important that certain safety measures be enacted especially on something like a trampoline. Here are a couple things you want to keep in mind for your backyard trampoline.

Keep the Perimeter Clear

You should assume that with every jumping session on your backyard trampoline someone might bounce off. That is obviously the worst-case scenario but it will put you in the mindset of keeping the perimeter clear. You should have at least 8 to 10 feet of clean space around your entire trampoline. That means no lawn furniture, gardening tools, toys or other items that someone could fall into.

Proper Placement

Your trampoline needs to be on a shock absorbing type of surface. That is definitely not a concrete patio or driveway. Although a lawn is good surface, an area that is covered with mulch, pea gravel or sand is even better.

One Jumper at a Time

A trampoline is definitely one of those pieces of backyard equipment that needs to be a solo operation. That means one jumper at a time. Even if your kids think they can safely bounce together, they actually can’t. One wrong misstep can have them knocking into each other and causing serious injury. You should also restrict trampoline use by age. Kids under five shouldn’t be bouncing on a trampoline even with an adult helping them.

Padding

If your trampoline did not come with perimeter padding, then this is something you definitely want to consider adding. The padding goes around the outside of the trampoline covering the springs. This goes a long way from preventing accidents.

Safety Net

A safety net is something that you can wrap around the perimeter of your trampoline. This keeps the jumpers confined within the trampoline space.

Spring Detachment

Even with the padding on your trampoline, you still need to be aware of any potential spring detachment. This can happen after any jumping session. That is why you should always inspect the trampoline before any fun begins.

If you find that your springs are constantly detaching or your trampoline mat is starting to rip, then you may want to think about replacing your trampoline. This is one of those tasks that are definitely a two-man operation. That is exactly what you’ll be provided by Junk King Columbus. Not only will the Junk King crew be able to take apart the trampoline but they will also be able to clear the rest of your unwanted yard rubbish on the same trip. It’s a great way to get the entire backyard clear of clutter.
