Recycling TVs and Computer Monitors in Columbus, Ohio

When we first opened Junk King we were amazed at the number of calls we got from people in the Columbus area who wanted us to pick up and recycle an old television or monitor.

While we are located in Dublin and a majority of our appointments are from here, Columbus, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Worthington, Westerville, New Albany and Delaware, the fact of the matter is that central Ohio is home to over 2 million people.Old TV ready to be recycled Tube-type displays are heavy and bulky; large, flat-screen TVs are…well, large. Beyond that they contain mercury and other heavy metals, which means they can’t go into the regular trash (legally and environmentally speaking).

Needless to say, if you are researching television recycling you are not alone. Very few, if any, local municipalities offer this service and while there are places that accept drop-offs, you have to find them and visit on their schedule—which in all likelihood are the same hours that you have to work. Not to mention lugging a big, bulky, possibly heavy TV…and that’s assuming you can do it yourself. Otherwise, you must recruit a friend or loved one to help.

It can eat up a lot of time and effort…Or you can call us!

Our appointment line is 1-800-995-JUNK (5865) and we can often come out the same day you call. Beyond that we are concerned with the environment and we recycle everything thing we can. With TVs and monitors that means 100% is recycled so it never ends up in a landfill leaching heavy metals into the groundwater. The same is true for all the electronics and appliances we take in, be it a laptop, old stereo components, or a Super Nintendo that finally gave up the ghost.

If it is a serviceable item we try to donate it to a local charity but in most cases, we recycle them en masse. Truth be told, it feels really good to realize the volume of items that we reuse or recycle in one way or another that won’t end up in a landfill somewhere; most of our customers share this sentiment.

We have some of the lowest prices in the industry and professional, uniformed, bonded and insured teams who will come to you and pick up TVs, monitors, electronics and just about anything else you want us to get out of your way. It’s pretty common for people to also realize they have other stuff they’d like us to clear out and to decide to kill two birds with one stone—maybe even clean out the basement while we’re at it.

We operate every day but Sunday and we service all of Franklin County and parts of all the surrounding counties. If you have specific questions you can call the appointment line above or our local number can be found on our website: northcolumbus.junk-king.com

Make Your Old Television History – Columbus TV Disposal

If you’re thinking about getting rid of the old television in your Columbus home, your best option is to call up a local Columbus TV disposal company like Junk King. You can’t dump your old set out with the garbage and if it’s no longer any good, donating is not an option. While you’re waiting for the pickup crew to come by, you might be interested in a few television factoids. First, let’s look at the word “television” itself. Television is actually a combination of the Greek word “tele” which means far and the Latin word “visio” meaning site.
Believe it or not, television has been around for a long while. Way back in 1927, inventor Philo Farnsworth created the world’s first working television system. His first demonstration of this new fangled gadget was September 1st, 1928. The program? An image of a Felix the Cat doll spinning on a record turntable. In fact, that was the only show on the air for several years while engineer worked on refining the system. Technically, there were really just two studios beaming the image back and forth while the worked out the kinks. Flash ahead to the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. These became the world’s first regular television broadcast although that broadcast was only available in two German cities.
At the 1939 World’s Fair, U.S. citizens got their first peak and the box that would soon take over their lives. Just as TV was catching on, WWII broke out and put the brakes on television. It was until 1948 when conductor Arturo Toscanini and his orchestra took to the airwaves. They were paired up with the Texaco Star Theater staring comedian Milton Berle. This variety/sketch show was the first official “must see TV” hit. The rest, as they say, is history.
Which brings us full circle to the set you’re getting ready to toss out. As classifications go, your television is considered electronic garbage or e-waste. This type of junk requires special handling. If a television is merely smashed up in the back of a garbage truck, it can release some harmful materials. This is why hiring a crew to take away your TV and properly dispose of it makes the most sense. You might be thinking that is seems silly to hire someone to take away your television. Well, you could always stick it in your garage or basement but then it’s just going to collect dust. The other option is to toss out more junk.
Why not make the most out of  television disposal pickup by targeting more junk that can be hauled away in this one trip? It doesn’t have to be e-waste, just waste. Things like old furniture, kitchen appliances or car parts could be tossed on the back of the same truck and taken away. You get a new TV, more space and the satisfaction of knowing your old television set isn’t going to hurt anybody. That’s a gold medal win all around.
