What’s the plan for your family’s spring break? That is sure to be the number one topic of the kids as they settle in from time off at school. It’s not up to you to find a way to fill up their days. You don’t want to keep them inside the whole time. Instead, there are lots you can do around Dallas. Consider these options.
The Dallas Zoo
When the Dallas Zoo first opened in 1888, there wasn’t much to see… just two deer and two mountain lions. Today, there are over 2,000 animals roaming habitats that spread over 106 acres. Some of the new exhibits include the Simmons Hippo Outpost complete with a 120,000-gallon pool and underwater viewing window. There is also the Giants of the Savanna habitat where you’ll find elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and warthogs. Total “Lion King.” And there will be plenty of chances for the younger ones to get up close and pet some animals at the Farmyard. Great times ahead.
The Dallas World Aquarium
Not all the creatures in Dallas are roaming on above ground habitats. There is plenty going on under the sea at the Dallas World Aquarium. You’ll see manatees, turtles and freshwater fish along with crabs, sea dragons and penguins. And yes, there are sharks. Lots of sharks.
Klyde Warren Park
Klyde Warren Park is a five-acre deck park. That means it is built over a freeway and connects Uptown with the Dallas Arts District. The centerpiece is the Children’s Park. It is a sprawling oasis for the kids with interactive fountains, playgrounds, a storytelling tree and a kid-sized amphitheater that hosts fun and educational programming, like reading club and children’s theater. If you drop the kids off at the movies, then you can spend the day in the park with a good book. Everybody wins!
