Deck Removal – What Your Options Are in The Fairfax Area

deck removal options and dumpster rental in fairfax

There are few pleasures in life that compare to spending a late afternoon or early evening relaxing on your deck, sipping a cool drink, and enjoying the soothing warmth that settles in after a hot day.

Unless your deck is creaking, cracked, rotted and the railing is coming off. That’s when it’s time for a replacement.

One of the sad truths about being a homeowner is that nothing lasts forever. Your mortgage payment may seem that way, but structures like your deck need to be replaced from time to time.

But what do you do with all the debris after the deck removal? Junk King Fairfax has some options.

Deck Removal in Fairfax: What You Need to Know

If you plan to replace your deck or wooden porch this spring, or sooner, one of the unavoidable tasks will be disposing of the old lumber, hardware, and other debris from the old structure. And the question to be asked is, “How do you dispose of old wood debris properly?”

Not all deck building materials are the same, and even various wood products are different. So, knowing what you’re working with and how it can – or cannot – be disposed of is important, especially if you’re planning to take it all to a landfill.

When it comes to wood, for example, the most common deck materials are redwood, cedar, and pine. There are also composite materials that have been used for the last few decades.

These newer materials are made by combining blends of plastic and waste wood fibers. While these boards won’t splinter and don’t need to be stained or painted, they don’t last forever either. Probably the most well-known version is Trex, headquartered right here in Virginia. Since the late 1990s, it has been used increasingly by homeowners and others for decking projects.

However, while it can last over 20 years with the proper care and maintenance, that still means that many of the early decks made with composite materials are due for replacement.

Another “specialty” wood product commonly used in deck construction is pressure-treated wood. Whether it is strictly used for the support beams and framing, or for an entire deck structure, pressure-treated wood is long-lasting and highly resistant to decay and insects.

The folks at This Old House describe it this way,

“Lasting about 15 years, this is the least expensive type of decking. Most pressure-treated wood is made from Southern yellow pine, which is quick to splinter if not maintained. When working with this wood, always use gloves, wear a mask, and never burn it because the toxic chemicals in the wood that prevent rot and termites can also be harmful to your health. These chemicals are also highly corrosive so for best results, use only stainless steel fasteners.”

There is a big problem with pressure-treated wood, however. Disposal.

These materials (along with railroad ties) cannot be put into the residential waste bins nor dumped along with other household trash and waste materials.

According to Fairfax County,

“Paneling, pressure-treated or nonpressure treated wood can be taken to the I-66 Transfer Station or I-95 Landfill Complex for disposal. Must not exceed eight feet in length.”

In fact, if you are able to dispose of your own deck debris and waste materials, odds are that a great deal of it will need to be cut down to fit into your truck bed. Not to mention that you will be moving that material at least three times: from the old deck site to your truck, up into (or onto) your truck or trailer, then off to one of the limited number waste disposal facilities nearby, and then off your vehicle.

The good news is you have options! And Junk King Fairfax is ready to help you with that.

Affordable Deck Remodel Service for the Greater Fairfax Region

As a homeowner, you already know that when you work on your own deck replacement project it’s going to mean having to move, load, and dispose of piles of lumber, boards, metal fasteners, possibly concrete rubble, and assorted other waste and trash that results from your efforts.

But you may not want to take the time, nor have the inclination or even the means to load it, haul it, and get rid of it all yourself.

And it’s probably not likely that you’re going to get a friend or relative to do all that for you…

Enter Junk King!

That’s because our prices are the lowest in our service area and we guarantee to beat any other written estimate from a comparable operator – which means a junk removal company that is also licensed, insured, and operates a recycling-based business to help keep our local landfills free of excess debris – just like we do.

Deck Removal with a Junk King Dumpster Rental

If you live in the Fairfax area, another great option for your deck removal project is to make use of a dumpster rental from Junk King Fairfax.

With one of our conveniently sized MINI Dumpsters, you can take your time loading your deck debris and after three days, our expert dumpster rental team will come back and remove it for you. That means no hauling, no dumping, no multiple trips to the dump!

So, how does it work?

With Junk King Fairfax, you pay only for the space you use, whether you have us come and pick it all up or you make use of our dumpster rental options. And, unlike the industry standard practice of charging a single price for a dumpster, we provide flexible pricing options to give our customers better value.

So, what does that look like? We offer three pricing tiers: Minimum, Half, and Full.

Our minimum price is the lowest fee charged for us to drop off and pick up the MINI Dumpster. This means, if your deck debris pile is small, you may qualify for the minimum charge. If you fill the MINI dumpster at or about halfway, you’ll receive a 30 percent discount (depending on location) off the full price. And, if your MINI is more than half full, we simply charge the full price for our MINI Dumpster service.

And, keep in mind, that even though our rental dumpster is conveniently sized at about 8 feet wide by 11 feet long, it’s easy to get debris into and holds up to 12-cubic feet. That’s roughly the equivalent of 16 average dryers – and with room to spare!

Three days isn’t long enough?  We have 3, 5, and 7-day pricing available for our MINI Dumpster rentals. And all with no hidden charges!
