Here are some fun facts about President’s Day: Technically, it is really Washington’s Day in honor of our first president George Washington. This federal holiday was put into place by Congress in 1879 and celebrated on his birthday, February 22nd. Then in 1971, the holiday shifted to the third Monday in February under the Uniform Holiday Act. That means you can’t really call it Washington’s Day because it is no longer on his birthday. Abe Lincoln came along with his February birthday and folks started to share President’s Day with him although officially, it is only Washington’s Day. Aren’t you glad you know all that?
Among the many closures, President’s Day has also become an opportunity for local business to roll out another sale. This when you’ll find great deals on mattresses, appliances and cars.
