Houston Appliance Disposal

When we pay good money for a piece of equipment we want it to last. That holds true for something as small as an iPod and as big as an SUV. While it is true that we live in a disposable society, that doesn’t mean we have to throw something out the minute it breaks. With a little upkeep and repair know how you can get the most out of your kitchen appliances. Houston Authorized Repair recently offered up some very helpful hints for keeping your kitchen equipment humming.

For instance, if you have an oven with a self-cleaning cycle you might want to avoid pushing that button before a big deal. The most common time for ovens to break down is when that cycle is activated. This would apply to older models. You’re probably better off going “old school” with some Easy Off or other type of oven cleaner to make sure you’re not putting too much strain on that old stove.

Over with the dishwasher, you should occasionally consider running an empty cycle with a cup of white vinegar instead of detergent. This will remove odors and buildup in the machine. And if you have something that might not be “dishwasher safe” don’t risk it; wash it by hand. To keep your garbage disposal smelling fresh, toss in some ice cubes and citrus peels then run it with cold water for 30 seconds. After that keep running the cold water for a few moments.

Your refrigerator could stand with a little vacuuming. First, unplug the unit. Then use your vacuum to remove any dust bunnies from the coils in the back. Not only will this improve the chances of your fridge running longer, it will also help with your electric bills because it will improve the energy output.

Of course, even with all this TLC there are some appliances that just won’t make the grade anymore. These are those items that you’ve cleaned, patched and fixed up as best as you can but they’re simply out of steam. When that happens, it’s time to buy new. Fortunately, you’ll be in for a treat when you go shopping for a new dishwasher, stove or fridge. That’s because the new design models have come with a lot of special features such as touch-pad programmable cycles. Yes, computers have taken over the kitchen but that’s a good thing!

After you’ve picked out your new big gadget, you’ll need to make arrangements to get rid of those older dinosaurs. That can be taken care of when you hire a team of professional junk haulers like Junk King Houston. A crew like that will be able to unhook and unplug any major appliance and move it out of your kitchen in a blink. While they are at it they can also take away any other bulky item you’re ready to toss out. It might just be time for a good ol’ fashioned “out with the old and in with the new” routine!
