Appliances
Getting rid of refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, dryers, and other appliances can be a pain. In some cases, such as with washing machines, ovens, and dryers, you can set them out for bulky waste pickup or take them to a recycling center or landfill. Dealing with refrigerators, freezers, and anything else that contains refrigerant, however, is more difficult. The refrigerants in these appliances cannot be put in a landfill due to the damage they can do to the environment. In some cases, you can call an EPA bounty program to deal with these chemicals. Bounty programs take appliances that contain refrigerant and recycle them. They safely remove the chemicals before doing so, of course. Some offer rebates you can use on Energy Star appliances that use less power.
We will take care of having the refrigerant removed by a licensed company that can safely recycle or dispose of it. Once that’s done, we will turn over the refrigerator to a recycling center that can break it down and recycle much of the metal and other components. Everything will be done safely so that no harmful chemicals are released.
Hot Tub Disposal
Hot tubs are large, bulky, and can be a chore to move. Even if you have a truck, you may not be able to fit the hot tub in it. Junk King will take care of these large items, quickly taking them apart and moving them into our truck. Our team has the manpower needed to move hot tubs safely. No one will be injured, and nothing near the hot tub or along the path from its location to our truck will be damaged.
Once we’ve loaded up the hot tub, we will make certain that it is properly disposed of. Some hot tubs can be recycled, so we will take yours to the correct facility. We do our best to make certain everything we collect is dealt with in the most eco-friendly way possible. There is some metal in hot tubs that can be sent to a scrap metal recycling plant, and there’s some plastic that can also be recycled.
Note that many city disposal services and other junk haulers won’t take hot tubs. They’re simply too large and bulky to fit in most trucks. Junk King, however, has the equipment needed to haul away these large items.
Mattresses
While many people don’t change their mattress as often as is recommended (every eight years), your bed will eventually wear out. Mattresses go through a lot during their lifespan, and typically, by the time you’re ready to get rid of it, there’s not much life left. Most mattresses, then, are simply disposed of. Few organizations will accept donated used mattresses due to the fear of bed bugs and other potentially dangerous germs.
Some mattresses can be recycled or contain recyclable materials that we remove. Box springs also can often be broken down and recycled. This is important because many dump sites will not accept mattresses due to chemical components. Electronic Waste
Getting rid of old cell phones, computers, monitors, televisions, and other electronic items can also be fairly difficult. Many of these items contain batteries, coolant, and other components that can damage the environment.
