What Can Junk King do for Retailers?

Do you own a store in Katy, Texas? If so, you know how difficult running a retail business can be. There are many moving parts to retail, and if just one of those parts breaks down, it can affect your entire operation. You may find yourself short on products, short on employees, or short on customers. Another issue you’re likely to face at some point is being short on space. You need the proper amount of space to showcase your products, of course, but you also need a good amount of space behind the scenes. You need an office, a break room for employees, space to sort incoming orders, another to store current products, and finally a space to store other items such as marketing materials and display units that you don’t use all the time.

When you start to run out of space, things overflow into other areas. Eventually, you’ve got incoming stock and marketing items in your break room, which can lead to a number of problems. Many people would start looking for a new building at this point, but that’s not always an option. You may be locked into a lease for several more years, or you may love the location you’re in. Often, though, square footage isn’t the problem. The issue is that you’re storing junk, and you need to get rid of it.

Junk King Katy can assist you in getting rid of all this stuff, whether it’s old products, broken displays, or debris that for whatever reason hasn’t found its way to the dumpster yet. Here are some of the ways working with Junk King can help retailers regain space in their stores.

Let Us Haul Away that Junk

Once you’ve determined that you have a lot of trash you need to get rid of, you next have to decide how to get rid of it. You may have a dumpster that is emptied weekly, but that may not be enough to hold all the stuff you need to toss. If you generate a good amount of garbage every week, you may not have much extra room in the dumpster. That can make it difficult to add extra trash. Putting a few extra pieces of junk in the dumpster every week may not help you make much headway, especially if some of the junk items are very large.

If you know what you want to get rid of, our junk hauling service can be the ideal solution. All you need to do is let us know what you need to get rid of, and our crew will handle the hard work of getting it out of your building and into our truck. It may be helpful for you to sort through stuff and make a pile, but you don’t have to. As long as someone knows what needs to go in our truck, we can remove it, even if it’s in a basement or up several flights of stairs.

Once we’ve finished hauling everything out, you’ll have more free space to work with. You can rearrange, get all of your products back into their designated space, and feel like you can breathe again. Working in cramped conditions isn’t good for anyone, so you may find that your employees are happier and get more done.

We Help with Fall Cleaning

Plan on doing some fall cleaning once a year or several times a year? Having a junk hauling service can be incredibly helpful for this. Once you know what trash you need to get rid of, you just give us a call.

Not sure what needs to go in the trash? If you need to sort through things first, instead of hiring us to haul stuff away, you might want to consider renting a dumpster from Junk King. Having a dumpster on hand has a number of benefits. First, you don’t need to know what you’re going to throw away. You can decide as you go through stuff, adding the junk to the dumpster while setting aside the stuff you want to keep to be sorted and organized later.

Second, dumpsters are the ideal solution if you have so much stuff crammed into your space that you just don’t know what you need to keep. They give you a place to throw all the trash as you sort through it. This can be very helpful if you know you have junk that has gotten shoved behind stuff you need to keep.

Third, you have a chance to organize as you go because you’re creating more empty space. You can move items around once space opens up. This can help you determine what you actually have space to keep. It’s also a chance to see if you have duplicates of some things or if some items you thought were usable are actually broken.

Dumpsters Are Ideal for Remodeling Projects, too

Another way Junk King Katy helps our local retailers is with remodeling. Having an on-site dumpster can help you quickly and easily. All of the debris from old shelving, counters, flooring, and anything else can go straight out into the dumpster. While much of this debris may be done at once, you’ll still likely have other trash that needs to go in the dumpster during the project, such as packaging. That’s why having a dumpster for these projects is often a better idea than using junk hauling.

It also helps to have a single place for all the debris to go because it does present a health hazard. Construction debris often includes nails, screws, splintered wood, and other things that could injure someone. Having all of this debris placed in a dumpster creates a single location for all the trash. People won’t accidentally trip over something or otherwise hurt themselves on the trash because it will be contained in the dumpster.

Upgrading Your Space? We Can Help with That

Maybe you’re not doing major construction or renovations to your space, but you still want to refresh some of it. We can help with that, too. We will haul away old furniture, including tables, chairs, sofas, shelves, display units, and anything else you want to get rid of. Whether you’re refreshing your retail space or are redoing the break room, Junk King is here for you.

If you are moving to a new space, we can come in and completely clean out everything you’ve left in the old space. You don’t need to move junk to your new building, so don’t. When you come across something you no longer need, just leave it in your old retail space. Once you’re done moving, give us a call. We’ll come in and haul away anything you’ve left. This way, you know everything you’ve moved is useful and that your old space will be fully emptied out.

Why Junk King?

Why should you work with Junk King of Katy? We’re one of the top-rated junk removal services in the country, and Junk King always has your back. Our team has years of experience in junk removal. We know how to do it safely and without damaging doorframes, flooring, or anything else. If you and your employees try to remove junk yourselves, you could get injured or break something. That’s going to cost you, especially if you have to pay an employee for a workers’ compensation injury.

Junk King also works with you to keep costs low. We charge by the amount of space you use in our truck or dumpster. Weight and type of trash doesn’t matter. When we pick up the dumpster, we’ll calculate how much was used and adjust the cost accordingly. If you didn’t fill it to the top, you won’t be charged as if you did.

What We Take

Junk King can take a wide range of trash. In fact, we take things some other junk hauling services won’t, which is another great reason to work with us. We take furniture, appliances, and trash, of course, but we also take yard debris, construction waste, and electronic waste. In fact, we can take anything that isn’t considered hazardous waste. Anything that we can take in our trucks can go in our dumpsters, too. If you ever have any question about something, all you have to do is reach out to us.

We Don’t Trash Everything

Another thing we do that other junk haulers don’t always do is redirect bulk trash away from the landfill. While some things can’t go anywhere else, we first try to pull out everything that is still usable. We donate these items to a local organization in or near Katy that helps those in need. For things that can’t be donated, we will look to see if any of the materials can be recycled. If so, those materials are removed and sent to the correct recycling facility. All in all, only about 30 percent of what we collect ends up in the landfill.

Junk King Katy Estate Cleanout Services

Fall Cleaning is Just as Important as Spring Cleaning

The fall is here, and for many, that means it’s time to start looking for pumpkin spice coffees, Halloween decorations, and jackets. While the changing seasons do mean you need to start pulling out heavier clothing and blankets, it also means it’s time to do a little fall cleaning. While most people know about spring cleaning, and many even do some cleaning around the beginning of April, few people really think about fall cleaning. However, it’s just as important.

There are many reasons to give your house a good cleaning when the fall rolls around. It’s not just to get rid of stuff, either, although that’s never a bad reason to clean. If you’re going to dive into fall cleaning this year, you may need some help. Junk King Katy is here to assist you in getting rid of all the junk that’s overstayed its welcome in your home. Here are a few of the reasons why you should do some fall cleaning and how Junk King can help.

You Can Rotate Your Closets and Other Items

When you spring clean, you may pull out your swimsuit, pool gear, and other outdoor items. You should do the same in the fall. Take the time to clean out and organize your closet, putting away your summer outfits and pulling out your heavy sweaters and other winter items. If you start your fall cleaning early, you may need to leave a few lightweight outfits in the closet just in case the weather turns back, but you can likely put away most of the tank tops and shorts.

Do this for your garage and shed, too. While you’re putting away your summer sports gear, move your winter stuff to the front and store the summer things in the back. This way, you won’t have to dig through everything just to find what you’re looking for. You’re not going to need your lawn mower, so why have it front and center in the shed? Put your snow shovel and skiing gear up front instead. This way, you’ll easily be able to find your winter stuff when you need it instead of dumping out half the shed or going through half the things in your garage just to find it.

Sort Through Your Winter and Holiday Items

Now is also a good time to look at your winter gear and holiday decorations to see if they’re all in good shape. When you start going through your winter clothing, you may find that some of it isn’t looking as good as it did last year. You may also find some things that you haven’t worn in several winters. If that’s the case, it might be time to put those items aside for donation.

It might be a lot of work to go through all of your holiday decorations, especially if you decorate for the fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and a winter holiday. If that’s the case, go through the decorations you’ll need next to see if they’re in good shape. If not, you can start shopping for replacements now. For those who don’t have a lot of holiday décor, you may be able to look through everything now and decide what needs to be replaced.

Give Your House a Once-Over

While you might save your basement and attic purging for your spring cleaning, you should take the time to give your entire house a once-over during your fall cleaning. If you see something you know you don’t need, go ahead and get rid of it now. Maybe you’ve been planning on getting rid of an old chair but haven’t had the time to make arrangements to have it picked up. Now’s the perfect time to call Junk King. Don’t let junk pile up over the winter, especially if you know it’s junk now.

People do tend to gather more things during the winter months. Part of this is due to the holidays and gift-giving. However, another reason for accumulating more stuff during the winter is that people are indoors more. You can’t get outside and do things, so you start finding activities to do indoors. If space is at a premium in your home, you may need to do an early fall purge now so you have space to accommodate your winter purchases and gifts.

Prepare Your Guest Room

Another important part of fall cleaning is preparing your guest room. If you know you’re going to have company over the holidays, take time to make sure this space is at least somewhat ready. It can be easy for a guest room to become a catch-all space during the summer. It’s a convenient place to put things so that they’re out of the way, but too often, it becomes an “out of sight, out of mind” situation. Before you know it, your guest room is overflowing with stuff. You may then end up scrambling to find places to put all that stuff and get the room ready before your guests come. That usually leads to shoving things in closets or under the bed.

Instead, use your fall cleaning time to get things situated in your guest space. Put larger things in closets or your garage (in an organized fashion, of course!). You don’t necessarily have to prepare the room as if guests were coming tomorrow, but make sure most of the work is done. You never know when you might have someone drop in or need to change their holiday plans last-minute.

Include Outdoor Maintenance in Your Fall Cleaning

While doing some fall cleaning inside your home is helpful, the real bulk of your fall cleaning may need to take place outdoors. That’s because you’ll need to prepare your yard for the winter, especially if you live in an area that has very harsh winters or heavy snowfall.

The first step to take in preparing for the fall is to clean out your gutters. If they’re full of gunk, water could freeze up in them, which could cause the gutters to become unbalanced or, worse, even fall off. It could also cause water to overflow the gutters and end up on the sidewalk. If temperatures drop below freezing again, that could create sheets of ice on the sidewalk and cause you to slip.

Next, check your shed and other outdoor structures to make sure they’re sound. If you find small holes in the walls, it’s likely animals or insects will get into the space during the winter. You’ll want to repair those areas now so your shed doesn’t turn into a winter home for strays. Also check your deck, any outdoor stairs, and other spaces to make sure everything is sound.

If you have a concrete or paver patio, look for cracks. Water can get into these cracks and then freeze, expanding and causing the cracks to widen. If you have damaged pavers, go ahead and replace them now. If your concrete has large cracks, you may want to fill them using a special filler so the damage doesn’t get worse.

What happens if you find that your shed, deck, or patio isn’t in good condition? If you decide to remove it, Junk King can help. We haul away construction debris such as demolished sheds. Once you’ve emptied the shed and taken it down, we can collect the debris and get rid of it for you.

Put Away Lawn Furniture

Your lawn furniture may not be built to withstand a harsh winter with strong winds and a lot of ice, so you should bring it indoors when you’re done spending time outside. Take a look at your furniture before you put it away to determine if it’s still good. If not, junk it instead of storing it for the winter. You’ll just get rid of it in the spring anyway, so why store trash for the winter? Taking inventory of your summer things and getting rid of any that are broken is an important part of fall cleaning because it ties back into some of the earlier points. It gives you more space so you have room for anything you purchase in the winter.

Downsizing: How to Prepare to Move to a Smaller Home in Katy

You may have reached a point in your life where your home is simply too big. All of your children may have moved out, or you may have retired and no longer need a home office. Maybe your knees make it difficult to go up and down the stairs, so you need to downsize to a single-story. Whatever the reason, downsizing means one thing: you’re going to have to get rid of some of your stuff.

Moving into a smaller home can seem like a challenge, especially if you’ve got a lot of stuff and are moving to a significantly smaller home. Those who are moving into an apartment from a home or into an assisted living facility may especially find this process daunting. What can you do to make it easier? Here are some tips for downsizing that will help you get a better handle on what to do with all of your possessions.

Learn More About Items We Take

Give Yourself Time

One of the most important parts of downsizing is to not rush it. If you’re rushed, you’re much more likely to stop looking at things critically and just toss it all in a box. You’ll either end up keeping much more than you should or tossing things you’ll later regret getting rid of. You could also fall into the trap of renting a storage unit for things so you can sort through them later. Unfortunately, many people do this and then never go back to sort the items. They end up paying for that storage unit for years. That ends up being nothing but a waste of money in the long run.

Once you’ve decided to downsize, start going through things as soon as you can. You don’t have to begin boxing things up, but start deciding what you want to keep and what you’re ready to let go of.

Start by Making a Must-Keep List

If you’re finding the task of downsizing a little overwhelming, one place to start is with those items that you know you will keep no matter what. These may be family heirlooms, or they may be items that are very special to you. A pot with handprints of your children would fall into this category, of course, but do be careful that you don’t put everything that has some kind of sentimental value on this list. You may find that it quickly becomes too long.

One way of shortening this list is to consider making digital copies of items. For example, photographs could be scanned and saved to a digital picture frame. You could do the same with handmade cards and other items your kids may have created in school. By keeping a few of these items and digitizing the rest, you can save a lot of space. This also makes it easier to share them with others.

If there are heirlooms you don’t want to get rid of but also don’t particularly want to keep, pass them on to your children or other relatives now. Many people get stuck on the idea of passing things down when they die, but there’s no rule stating you have to wait.

Bigger Trucks

Let Go of Junk

Some people hold on to things that really aren’t worth keeping. If you have items that are broken and cannot be repaired, this is the perfect time to let go of them. If you can repair or fix them, let the move be the thing that pushes you to do that. For example, you may have an old oil-burning lamp your grandparents have that needs a new globe but have never replaced it. Now’s the time to do so if you plan on moving it to your new home. If you’re not going to replace the globe, see if anyone else wants to take the lamp and fix it.

Old furniture that’s wobbly or that has deep scratch marks or torn coverings should potentially go. Again, if it’s a family heirloom, you may want to look into restoring it, but if it’s not, now’s the time to get rid of it. You want your new, smaller home to contain furniture that looks amazing and that you truly love, so don’t move pieces that aren’t comfortable, usable, or in good condition.

Know Your Measurements

How much space will you have in your new home? If you don’t know the measurements of each room, it can be difficult to know what furniture will fit. Be sure you have the measurements and the measurements of your furniture. This will help you determine what pieces you can use where. Remember to leave space to walk between pieces and between rooms. It may help you to draw out the layout of each room so you can better visualize how it will look. If you have too much furniture for a space, you’ll have to determine what you want to keep and what simply won’t fit.

New call-to-action

What Do You Use Regularly?

Consider a normal day in your life. What items and pieces of furniture do you use? You’ll want to move everything you use regularly, but you may be able to part with some things you don’t use that often. For example, if you have a large sofa and several chairs in your living room, where do you usually sit? If you and your spouse use the chairs, you may be able to replace your large sofa with a smaller one. This still gives you space for guests, but you don’t have a big piece of furniture taking up a lot of space in your new, smaller home.

Do you need every baking pan, pot, and serving dish in your kitchen? If you don’t plan on hosting large dinners, you may not. This is especially true if you have two or more of some items. Consider donating or giving away the duplicates unless it’s something you use often. For example, you may not need two roasting pans, but if you bake muffins a lot, you might want to keep all of your muffin pans.

If you’re going from a large walk-in closet to a smaller one, you may have to pare down your clothing, shoes, and accessories. Again, look at what you use. If you have several pairs of shoes you haven’t worn in years, will you really wear them anytime soon? Probably not. You can pass them on to those who will wear them.

Will Decorative Items Fit Your New Style?

Your current home may have had the same style for years, but will your new home retain that style? This is your chance to switch it up. You might go with new colors, for example, which means some of your current accent pillows, throw blankets, and rugs may no longer fit in. If your new home is modern while your current one is more traditional, you may not want to use the same curtains or other pieces because they won’t fit in.

If you purchased items just for decoration, those may be some of the first pieces to put in the donate pile. They likely hold no sentimental value, especially if you bought them from a big box store. If they’re not unique, hold no sentimental value, and don’t have a place in your new home, do you really need to move them?

junk removal service recycling

What Do You Do with Stuff You Don’t Want?

Once you’ve sorted out the things that you want to take to your new home, what do you do with what’s left? Your children or other relatives may want some items, especially family heirlooms or things they have an attachment to. You may have some friends who are in need of some of your furniture or kitchen utensils.

After you’ve passed out what you can, what about the rest? Junk King of Katy can come in and help you clear out what’s left in your home so you can sell it. While we do cart off junk, that’s not all we do. Before going to the landfill, we will sort through everything we picked up. If you have anything usable, including furniture and appliances, we set it aside. These items go to one of our partners who help those in need. These charitable organizations will see to it that these items get to those in need. It’s a great way of donating, and it doesn’t cost you anything extra. We sort out donations from every job as part of our standard service.

If we can’t donate it, we will look to see if it’s made from recyclable materials. If so, it goes to one of our recycling partners. If there’s no way the item can be used or recycled, only then does it go to the landfill. That’s always our last stop.

Junk King Katy Dumpster Rental

We Recycle Most of What You Put in Your Katy Dumpster

Over the years, it has become more and more apparent just how much of an impact humans have on our planet. Our use of resources, especially non-renewable ones, combined with our decades of pollution has added up. Today, we’ve realized how we’ve negatively impacted our planet, and we’ve taken steps to reduce that impact. Recycling is one such step. While we haven’t perfected recycling just yet, what we’ve done so far has helped reduce our dependence on certain resources and eliminate some of the waste we put into landfills.

junk removal service recycling

However, while many people recognize that recycling is necessary to protect our planet, it’s not always easy to recycle. Some cities have recycling programs, but some don’t. Some materials require special recycling processes that aren’t widely available. Then there’s the issue of items made up of various materials. Some of those materials may be recyclable, but some may not be. What do you do with these items? It can be difficult for the average person to disassemble a sofa, for example, just to get the metal out for recycling..

This is one area where Junk King Katy can help. While we offer junk hauling services and dumpster rental, that doesn’t mean we simply cart everything off to the landfill once we pick it up. In fact, most of what you put in your dumpster won’t make it to the dump. Here’s how Junk King helps protect the environment without putting any extra stress on our clients.

We Sort All Dumpsters

We know people rent our dumpsters for many different reasons. Some may be cleaning out their home, while others may need a place to put yard debris or DIY construction debris. You might have old cabinets and flooring in your dumpster, or you could have it full of dead bushes, old furniture, and broken appliances. We even rent to businesses, so we do expect to have dumpsters full of old marketing materials, shelving, and office equipment. Once we get a dumpster back to our warehouse, our first order of business is to separate out everything. We start with three piles:

Rent Your Junk King MINI Today

Donate

First, we look at items that might have more life in them. Some furniture we collect is actually still in good condition. It’s worn and has been used, but it’s not ripped, stained, broken, or otherwise damaged. Someone out there could use it. The same is true of appliances that still work. They’re not ready for the dump yet. We take these items and set them aside to send to some of our local charitable organizations. These organizations are dedicated to helping those in need. Some may help struggling individuals by giving them a used appliance, while others may need furniture for a shelter.

Recycle

Second, we look for recyclable materials. Anything made from glass, metal, plastic, wood, or other recyclable materials gets set aside and grouped. We even take apart furniture and appliances that contain materials we can recycle. If it can be sent to a recycling facility, we want to pull it out and make sure it is.

Landfill

Finally, as much as we hate to, there are some items that cannot be reused or recycled. These materials do have to go to the landfill. However, by the time we reach this third stack, we’ve removed upwards of 80% or more of the dumpster’s contents. This means only a small amount of what you throw away actually ends up in the dump. There are times when we have nothing left after sorting out donations and recycling. That’s our goal—we want to keep 100% of what we collect out of the landfill. While it may not be achievable yet, we believe it will be in the future as recycling technology improves.

The Recycling Process

Junk King Katy is heavily involved in the first step of the recycling process. That step is the collection of recyclables. After we sort out all recyclable materials from our dumpsters and trucks, we make sure they get to the right facilities. A recycling center that handles plastics and glass may not be able to recycle metal, so we make certain we partner with a wide array of recycling experts.

At these facilities, the materials are cleaned, prepared, and then processed. The end result is raw material that can be used in new products and packaging. Companies then purchase these materials directly from the recycling center just as they would purchase new raw materials from other suppliers.

The final step is for consumers to then purchase products that use recycled materials from stores and other retailers. This puts the recycled material back in circulation. When the consumer puts the product or packaging into a recycling bin, Junk King dumpster, or other recycling container, the loop continues. Some materials can be recycled over and over indefinitely, while other materials may slowly wear down until they cannot be recycled any longer.

What Can Be Recycled?

Many materials can be recycled. While common household recyclables include glass, aluminum, plastic, and cardboard, there are many other materials that can also be recycled. For example, while car seats often cannot be donated, they can be recycled. Other items you may not think about tossing in the recycling bin include pots and pans, toothbrushes, shoes, glasses, CDs, and even bicycles.

Some city recycling programs won’t accept all of these items simply because they do not have the equipment needed to recycle them, so always check before putting anything in your city recycling. However, Junk King will sort out these items from our dumpsters and get them to the right facility.

Overall, as much as 75% of all items can actually be recycled. Unfortunately, we recycle far less. The U.S. sends over 200 million tons of trash to the landfill every year, and much of that could be recycled. By pledging to recycle everything we possibly can from our dumpster rentals and junk hauling services, Junk King is working to reduce this number. But we can’t do it alone, which is why we also work to raise awareness of recycling and why it’s so vital to the Earth.

Recycling is Becoming More Popular

The good news is that, according to a number of studies, recycling is becoming more popular and widespread. Recycling programs have become more available in cities across the country. Even when curbside pickup isn’t an option, people do typically have access to some kind of drop-off recycling bin or station. While these drop-off programs may be limited in what they can accept, they are a start to making recycling widespread and available to all.

Access to these programs is working. For example, between 1990 and 2010, recycling of paper products increased by also 90%. This can be attributed to both more widespread availability of recycling programs and more education about recycling and why it’s important. However, in 2009, about nine million tons of glass went into the landfill, so there is still a long way to go. How

Junk King Dumpster Rental Works

Rent Your Junk King MINI Today

Junk King offers the MINI dumpster, a small dumpster that holds up to 12 cubic yards of trash. We offer this size dumpster because it’s the perfect balance between providing enough space for junk without being so large that it’s inconvenient. Large dumpsters may not fit in your driveway, leaving you no choice but to put it on your yard. This can leave deep impressions in the soil and kill the grass under the dumpster. With a MINI, most people can have the dumpster placed in their drive and still have room to park a car next to it. In most cases, our clients can still easily access their garage. There’s plenty of room to work around the dumpster, too.

You can put just about anything in one of our rental dumpsters. The only thing we ask you not to put in the dumpster is hazardous waste. We cannot take this waste due to how dangerous it is. If you have anything you believe may be hazardous, give us a call. We’ll let you know if you can put it in the dumpster. If you can’t, we may be able to help you find the correct disposal partner. We take furniture, appliances, yard waste, DIY construction debris, electronics, and trash. Again, we can take items that are in good condition because they will go into our donate section. We always appreciate knowing if something can be donated, but you don’t have to let us know. We will sort everything ourselves at no cost to you. It’s a part of our basic services.

Junk King Katy Estate Cleanout Services

Times Where Junk Removal in Katy Could Make Life Easier

Junk removal services are a great way of decluttering your home. Junk King of Katy can help you get rid of just about anything, leaving you with more space. If you have old furniture, appliances, or other bulky items that you haven’t been able to get rid of, using a junk removal company can be the ideal solution. Junk King can make your life easier in a few different ways. Whether you have a few things to get rid of or have a ton of junk you need removed, here are some of the ways we can help.

You Don’t Have to Wait for Bulk Trash Pickup

If you have a number of bulky items to get rid of, you can’t rely on the city bulk trash pickup. That’s because they only pick up a limited number of items each time they collect bulky waste. This means you may have to put a few of these items out during each pickup time. You have to find some place to store the rest of the trash in between pickups. Anything that is classified as “super heavy” trash has its own special pickup tame once every three months. You can only put out up to six cubic yards of super heavy junk, so you’re also limited there. The city also won’t pick up any construction debris.

Junk King doesn’t have these restrictions. We will pick up as much as you have when you call us. It doesn’t matter how heavy or large the items are or how many you have. We’ll take a whole house of stuff if that’s what you need rid of. We make your life easier because we do it all in one visit. Plus, we do take construction debris.

You Don’t Have to Move Anything Out of Your Home

If you’re using the city bulk trash or are planning on getting rid of old furniture and appliances yourself, you have to get them out of your home. This isn’t as challenging for some people as it is for others, but it’s still a good amount of work. You have to be sure you lift heavy, bulky items correctly or you could hurt yourself. If you’re not careful, you can also easily damage the floor or doorframes.

Junk King eliminates this work. We will move items out of your home for you. All you have to do is remove anything from on or inside the item that you want to keep. For example, if you’ve hired us to remove a bed, you’ll want to take the sheets off first. Other than that, you don’t have to do anything besides show us where the item is. We’ll take care of the rest.

Your Garage is so Full You Can’t Park Your Car in it

Can’t get your car in the garage? In some cases, this might be because you’re actually storing a lot of yard equipment, sports gear, and other things in there that you do actually need and use. In that case, there may not be much you can get rid of. Your best option may be to reorganize the space, invest in a small shed, or look at storing some items in your basement or attic.

However, if you go through your garage and realize some of that stuff is junk, you have to ask yourself a very important question: why are you keeping trash? Instead of keeping it, book a junk removal service and get rid of it. Once the trash is gone, you can rearrange what you do need to store in your garage. You may be surprised at just how much space you have. You might be able to fit a vehicle in the garage now, or at the very least, you’ll have more room to move around in the space and find things.

You Need More Space

Wouldn’t having more space make your life easier? For many people, it would. Whether you’ve just moved in with someone and are trying to make a small apartment work or have four children in a three-bedroom home, every square foot of space is appreciated. Just like with your garage, if you realize you’re storing junk in your home, it’s time to get rid of it. The extra space you gain can completely change how you use a room.

You’re Moving

Are you getting ready to move? Junk hauling services can help make the move easier. If you’re selling your home, you may have items that you need to get rid of. Just call Junk King of Katy to take them off your hands. While you may want us to get rid of an old chair you don’t want to move or that old refrigerator that doesn’t work any longer, we can do more than that. We also take yard debris and DIY construction debris. That means we can haul away the old deck you need to remove before you list the home or the dead bushes you took out to boost your curb appeal.

We can also help you at the new home. Maybe you decided to take out the carpet in one room or are putting in a new backsplash. We’ll haul off the debris. We can also get rid of anything that the previous owners may have left in the house that you don’t want. Again, we can do yard debris as well, so we’ll haul off any trimmed tree limbs or removed bushes.

You Need to Clean Out a Loved One’s Home

Instead of cleaning out your home, you may need to clean out a loved one’s old house. Sometimes, this is done prior to a move. You may have an elderly relative who needs to move into an assisted living facility and simply has too much to take with them. If they’ve lived in the same home for decades, there may be a lot of things that are simply no longer useful. These things may have been buried in the basement or attic for so long no one even realized they needed to be thrown out.

Another, sadder duty, comes when a loved one passes away. You have to deal with their home. Even if they had a small apartment or were in assisted living, there’s some furniture and personal items you have to sort through. In some cases, you may divide everything up between relatives and friends. In other cases, though, you may need to get rid of stuff. Calling a junk hauling service is the easiest option.

You Own Rental Properties

In addition to helping homeowners, we also work with landlords and rental companies. If you’ve had a tenant move out and leave behind junk you don’t need, we can get rid of it for you. We can also haul away old cabinets, flooring, and other debris from doing small upgrades and renovations in between tenants.

Junk King Doesn’t Trash Everything

In some cases, what you need to get rid of may not be garbage. Cleaning out a loved one’s home, for example, may leave you with furniture that’s still in good condition but that no one has room for or wants. You may be hesitant to call Junk King, though, because you don’t want these useful items to go to the landfill.

Fortunately, that won’t happen. Junk King is dedicated to reducing the amount of waste we send to the dump. To do that, we go through everything we pick up and separate it out into three categories. The first is items that are still usable or work. We take these items to our partner organizations that help those in need. They will see to it that these pieces of furniture, appliances, and other things are made available to the right people and groups.

What about the items that aren’t usable? If something is broken or damaged beyond use, we look to see if it can be recycled. Many items have at least some components that can be. We take apart furniture, appliances, and other items to get these recyclable components.

Finally, whatever is left does often have to go to the landfill. However, it’s typically a very, very small amount. Most of what goes into one of our trucks or dumpster rentals does get either donated or recycled.

What Does Junk King Katy Haul Away?

What can you have us haul off for you? Just about anything. We take furniture, appliances, electronics, and much more. The only thing Junk King employees can’t handle is hazardous waste. If you have something classified as hazardous, you will have to look for another disposal option. For everything else, however, give us a call. We can likely haul it away for you.

Junk King Katy Construction Companies Partner

What Junk King Katy Does to Help Local Construction Companies

Construction companies generate a lot of trash. Whether it’s from clearing the land to begin building or the remnants of materials left over from the final finishes, all of this garbage has to go somewhere. You can’t let it pile up around the site or it could become a safety hazard. That’s why many construction companies in Katy work with Junk King. As one of the highest rated junk hauling and dumpster rental companies in the area, we’re here to help construction crews keep their work site clean and safe.

Wondering how we can help you or if partnering with a junk hauling service is the right move? Here are some of the ways Junk King assists local construction companies handle trash.

Ready To Book? Click & Save $20!

Junk Hauling

One of our main services is junk hauling. We take our large trucks to residential homes and commercial businesses and load up anything they need to get rid of. Our trucks are large enough to hold a lot of debris, and we have a fleet of them at our disposal. When a construction crew needs us for junk hauling, it’s usually for one of two reasons:

First, you may need to clear the lot before you can begin construction. There may be another building, house, or other structure there that has to be demolished first. We can come in and haul away the debris from this demolition, especially if there’s so much it would quickly overflow a dumpster.

In addition to the wood, shingles, and other materials, we also take landscaping debris such as trees and bushes. This is the second reason why you might need our junk hauling services. You don’t want to simply pile up this junk. It needs to go somewhere so the space can be fully cleared and leveled before you start construction. By working with Junk King Katy, you’ll quickly clear the lot so you can level it and then get to work on the new building.

Rent Your Junk King MINI Today

Dumpster Rental

Another option we offer is dumpster rental. You can rent one of our MINI dumpsters for as long as you need. We will work with you to create the right pickup schedule so the dumpster is emptied regularly. You can even rent multiple dumpsters to put at different parts of the work site if you have a huge project. Having a dumpster on-site offers several benefits:

Debris is Contained

It gives you one location to gather all of the debris. This will help keep all of the trash in one location and in a contained space. You won’t have to worry about your employees tripping over loose debris or stepping on nails. The crew will have plenty of space to work without worrying about trash getting in their way. When it comes time to empty the dumpster, it’s quick and easy. Once it’s done, all the garbage is gone from your work site.

You Can Throw Away Whatever You Want, Whenever You Want

If you have a dumpster, there’s always a place for garbage to go. You don’t need to set aside a place to stack large pieces of trash or fill up numerous trash bags. Many trash bags won’t even be able to hold heavy construction debris, so you would either waste money by double- or triple-bagging stuff or purchase the stronger, more expensive bags. Some of those bags won’t even hold up. With a dumpster, everything simply goes right into it. You don’t have to bag anything, nor do you have to worry about the debris being too large or too heavy.

Need additional information? Learn more about our dumpster rental services.

Our Dumpsters Are Designed to Fit Anywhere

Our dumpsters are made to fit just about anywhere you need them. While they’re called the MINI, that doesn’t mean they’re small, either. You can load over 12 cubic yards of trash in them. They’re called the MINI because they’re designed to fit on driveways or other small spaces without causing damage to a person’s yard or blocking the garage.

For a construction crew, this means you don’t need to set aside a lot of space for your dumpster. The only restriction is that we have to be able to get our truck in to drop it off, empty it, and pick it up. Other than that, you can have your dumpster placed anywhere that’s convenient to you and your crew.

Our Unique Pricing

Junk King has a unique pricing structure for our dumpsters. Instead of charging a flat fee, we charge by how much space you use in the dumpster. When you rent the dumpster, we will let you know what the maximum charge will be. Then, when we pick it up, we’ll assess the amount of space you’ve used and adjust the price as needed. If you’ve only used about half of the dumpster, you’ll pay less than if you filled the entire thing. This way, if you have a light week and don’t generate that much debris, you don’t pay as much. This will help keep your budget under control and can provide a buffer if you happen to go over budget in another area.

Should You Do Junk Hauling or Dumpster Rental?

Since Junk King Katy offers both junk hauling and dumpster rental, you may wonder which one is the right option for you. It depends on your needs. In some cases, you may want to have us come and haul away a large amount of debris and junk, while other times having a place to continually put trash is very helpful. Some of our construction crew partners actually end up using both junk hauling and dumpster rentals.

For example, you may need us to provide junk hauling services when you demolish the old structure on the land. Even if you’re only taking down a small house or even a shed, you’ll need to have it taken away before you can get to work. You might also need to have some landscaping done. We will haul off this debris so you have a blank slate to work with. Then we can provide a dumpster for you to use on a daily basis.

Using both junk hauling services and dumpster rental, then, can be the best combination. Consider what your needs are, how much garbage you’ll generate, and how often you’ll need the debris cleared away when determining what services you need and how often you’ll need them.

What Can You Put in a Junk King Dumpster?

What can you use our dumpsters for? Just about anything! The only thing we cannot handle is hazardous waste. As long as you don’t have anything that contains hazardous chemicals, it can go in your dumpster. If you do need to dispose of something hazardous, we may be able to point you towards a special chemical disposal service. For construction companies, we often haul away various material waste, trash, and yard waste.

If you have an old building on the land, you or your clients may need to have it emptied before it can be demolished. We can help with that, too. We take appliances, furniture, electronics, mattresses, and even things like hot tubs. We work with those dealing with foreclosed properties and abandoned properties, too.

We Recycle

A lot of the junk from a construction site can be recycled. Wood, metal, plastics, and other materials can often be reused, especially if they have not been treated with any coating or painted. If you throw scrapes or other pieces of these materials into dumpsters, many rental companies would simply take it all to the landfill.

Junk King, though, will sort through everything in one of our dumpsters and take out anything that can be recycled. We have partners in Katy and the Houston area that specialize in recycling different materials. We’ll get the appropriate items to the appropriate centers so it all gets recycled. We will even take apart furniture and other larger items and sort out the recyclable materials.

If you have some furniture, appliances, or other items that can still be used, we will also sort them out and donate them. We work with a number of local organizations that take these items and share them with those in need. The end result is that much of what we haul off or that goes into our dumpsters never makes it to the landfill. We do everything we can do to reduce our impact on the environment.

Junk King Katy Old Mattress Disposal

Could Replacing Your Old Mattress Improve Your Health?

Some people wake up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day. They got a full eight hours of good, deep sleep. Their bodies are rested, their minds are sharp, and they’re full of cheer. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who wake up feeling stiff and sore. They tossed and turned all night, waking up multiple times while trying to get comfortable. They’re on edge, take a few minutes to think things through, and yawn all day.

Why are some people fall into the first category and others into the second? While being or not being a morning person can explain away some of these differences, often there’s one item to blame: the mattress. If you have a good, firm mattress, you’re going to sleep better and feel better. If you don’t, you may not sleep as well, and your overall physical and mental health may be seriously affected. Here are a few ways replacing your old mattress can improve your sleep and your health.

You’ll Sleep Better

What if you don’t sleep well for days in a row? What if it becomes a series of months or even years? The effects on your body are cumulative, and you’ll eventually end up feeling horrible all the time. If you replace your old mattress with a new one, you’ll once again begin reaping the benefits of a good night’s sleep. This means you’ll wake up feeling refreshed. Your memory will be better, your mind will be clearer, and you’ll be more productive. You may be surprised at how much better you are mentally after just a week of much better sleep.

Physically, there are so many benefits of sleeping well. Your body will be able to rest and repair itself, which means you’ll fight off disease more easily. You’ll also heal from injuries, including surgical procedures, in less time and with fewer unexpected complications. Here are a few of the ways sleeping better will affect you physically:

Chronic Conditions May Improve or Stop Slipping

Sleep affects conditions such as blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. If you aren’t sleeping as well, the body can no longer deal with these challenges. For example, there may be a connection between a lack of sleep and inflammation. Studies have also found a potential link between high blood pressure and a lack of sleep. Many of these studies also found that sleeping too much can have some of the same effects, which indicates that catching up on sleep every now and then doesn’t actually negate those sleepless nights.

Book a Touchless Appointment Today and Save $20!

You Might Lose Weight

Sleep and weight are interconnected. Those who don’t sleep as well do tend to have higher BMIs than those who regularly sleep a good eight hours. If you can’t seem to lose weight no matter what your diet is or how much you exercise, it could be due to sleep deprivation. If you’re sleeping on an older mattress, it may be time to replace it. You may be surprised to find that your diet and exercise routine becomes more effective once you’re sleeping better. You may also no longer crave sugary foods as much because you’re getting more rest. You don’t need that sugary boost of energy to get you through the day.

Your Reaction Time Will Improve

Going days or more without good rest can actually be very dangerous. You may fall asleep while driving, for example, or fail to notice hazards until you trip over them. Overall, your reaction time will be delayed, which means you are more likely to fail to avoid a car collision or other type of accident. A lack of sleep can actually be just as dangerous as drunk driving. According to the CDC, those who have been awake for 18 hours are nearly at the legal blood alcohol content level. Drive after being away for 24 hours, and your reaction time will be the same as someone who is fully drunk.

New call-to-action

You’ll Feel Happier

Your old mattress could be making you depressed. While that may sound like a joke, it’s not. Studies have found that a lack of quality sleep does impact depression and other mental health conditions. According to one study, those who reported poor sleep also had a higher chance of depression and anxiety. If you suffer from depression, think about how your sleep schedule is. If you don’t sleep well, it likely is impacting your mental health. It’s time to schedule mattress disposal in Katy and find a new bed.

Replacing your mattress with one that’s much more comfortable and easier to sleep on can also improve your emotional responses and states. When you don’t sleep well, you may get upset or aggravated very easily. You may start snapping at people, even those who aren’t being argumentative. This can have a major impact on your social life, your relationships, and even your job. You may start skipping events or stepping away from your hobbies because you’re always tired. You may have outbursts that damage relationships, too. If you notice that you’re always on edge, it may be due to consistently poor sleep.

You’ll Breathe Better

Do you suffer from allergies or have asthma? If you do, and if you notice that your breathing is becoming more and more labored or that you’re having asthma attacks more often, it may be due to your bed and dust mites. These mites are tiny little creatures that eat dead skin cells and create dust, which is actually their feces. The human body is always shedding dead skin cells, and because you spend many hours in bed, many of these dead cells end up in your mattress. That means you’ll also find a large number of dust mites in your mattress, box springs, and even your pillow.

When you breathe in the dust they leave behind, it can trigger a dust allergy. You may find it difficult to breathe, start sneezing more often, or have a full-on asthma attack. You may also suffer from itchy eyes or a runny nose. While changing your sheets regularly, dusting, vacuuming your carpet or rugs, and in general keeping your bedroom clean will help reduce the number of dust mites, it’s virtually impossible to get rid of all of them. This means that over time, your mattress is going to become home to at least some dust mites.

This is one reason why it’s recommended that you replace your mattress every eight years or so. So much dust and other debris builds up that there’s no way to get it all out, and breathing this stuff in while you sleep is going to impact your breathing. You might be surprised just how much a new mattress affects your breathing.

Signs It’s Time to Look for Mattress Removal in Katy

Wondering if it’s time to replace your mattress so your health is no longer impacted by the dust, poor quality sleep, and other issues that come with a worn-out bed? The rule of thumb many people go by is to replace their mattress every eight years, but some mattresses don’t last that long. If you see that your mattress is sagging or that you sink down into your bed, it’s probably time for a new mattress. Your mattress should be firm enough to support you without putting pressure on your joints, and if it no longer does, you’re likely going to find it hard to get comfortable and fall asleep.

Another sign that it’s time to get rid of the mattress is if it physically looks worn. Are there stains on it? Is the fabric ripped or torn in places? If so, replace it. Also, replace it if you start to notice any weird smells coming from your mattress. That’s not normal and can be caused by the breakdown of some of the internal layers. It often means that some of the chemicals used in those layers are being released into the air, which can affect your breathing.

Junk King Katy Dumpster Rental

What is the Best Way to Load Your Dumpster Rental?

Dumpster rental in Katy can be a great solution to many projects. One of these giant metal bins is perfect for a DIY home remodel, taking down your old deck, or cleaning out the basement. They’re also a good solution for cleaning out a rental property or for going through a loved one’s home after they pass to prepare it for market. No matter what you need your dumpster for, it’s very helpful to know how to load it. Loading a dumpster the right way has a few different benefits. Here are some tips for loading your dumpster so you can be prepared before you search for “dumpster rental near me” or start throwing trash in it.

Ready To Book? Click & Save $20!

Why Load Your Dumpster Rental a Specific Way?

Why should you load your dumpster rental in any specific way? After all, isn’t it all going to the same place? With Junk King of Katy, that’s not true, but we will discuss that further down. Loading your dumpster in the right way has a number of benefits. First, and perhaps most importantly, is safety. A full dumpster is going to be very heavy, especially if there’s a lot of furniture or appliances in it. A dumpster that isn’t loaded correctly could tip over while it’s being picked up. Things could also fall out, damaging property or injuring someone. Of course, dumpsters that aren’t packed right may have empty spots in them that are simply wasted space. Filling them in uses up all of the space in your dumpster.

Now that you have an idea of why loading your dumpster is a good idea, let’s look at how you should load your garbage so you get the most out of your dumpster rental.

Place Items in the Dumpster instead of Throwing Them

It can be tempting to start tossing things into the dumpster without really looking to see where they land. This is especially tempting during the demo portion of a DIY project. Tossing an old mirror just to hear that satisfying sound of glass shattering might be fun, but it also isn’t the best way to load the dumpster. For one, it creates a safety issue because now you have shards of glass everywhere. Second, it creates uneven, awkward piles that can shift and move. There will be many gaps in the load, something dumpster rental experts know can cause problems during pickup. Place items in the dumpster, especially heavy or large items, so you know they’re not going to shift or take up more space than they should.

New call-to-action

Put Large Items on the Bottom

When you begin filling up your dumpster, do your best to put your large, heavy items on the bottom. This includes furniture and appliances. It can be difficult to do this because these items are often underneath other things. For example, if you have a large old sofa in your basement, it may have stacks of papers, clothing, and other things that need to go in the junk removal pile. Do you cart those out to the dumpster first, or do you try to find a place for them until you can unearth the sofa and get it out? You may not have a place to put those items, or you may need to get a lot of that stuff out so you can safely remove the sofa.

In some cases, you may be able to bag up lose items and set the bags aside, but that’s not always possible. Even if you do have to put some things in your dumpster before you can load in the heavy objects, try to keep the layers of trash as level as possible. This way, there’s less risk of a heavy object sliding around and unbalancing the dumpster.

Distribute the Weight Evenly

Speaking of items sliding around in your dumpster, do try to distribute the weight as evenly as you can. While the trucks that load and unload Katy dumpster rentals have safeties in place to prevent the dumpster from falling, a sudden shift in weight can cause problems. If you put a heavy appliance on one side, try to put some heavy furniture on the other. If you don’t have a ton of heavy things, put them in the center of the dumpster and try to put enough stuff around them that they won’t shift. Don’t put the heavy items on the top, either. Try to place them in an even layer coming out from the middle at the very bottom. Again, this may not always be possible, but do your best to put heavy items into the dumpster as soon as you can.

Break Down Items Wherever Possible

If you have a lot of empty boxes and other items set out for junk removal that can be broken down, do so before you put them in the dumpster. This includes things such as old pieces of drywall, tiles, concrete, cardboard boxes, and anything else you can flatten or break down. This helps to reduce the amount of wasted space in the bin. Of course, you could use any boxes you have to hold other junk, then put the full boxes in the dumpster. Whatever you do, try to compress or break down as much as you can so there are no empty spaces.

Take apart items wherever you can, too. You may be able to take the back off of a sofa or break a sectional down into two or three pieces. Doing this will help you arrange the pieces so there aren’t that many gaps and so the weight is better distributed.

Free Junk Removal Price Estimator

Fill in the Gaps

Another tip for filling a junk removal dumpster is to fill in any gaps you have. While breaking down items and putting large pieces at the bottom will help eliminate wasted space, there’s always the chance you’ll have gaps somewhere. Do your best to fill in these areas. For example, you can put fairly flat trash or broken-down boxes underneath that large sofa you put in the bottom of the dumpster. Push squishable bags of trash between larger items whenever you can, and take a break every now and then to check the dumpster for gaps on the sides. The more you pack in, the less chance the load will shift when the dumpster is picked up.

Know What Can’t Go in the Dumpster

Many junk removal dumpster rental companies do have specific rules about what can and what cannot go into their dumpster. Some of these lists are very lengthy, and in the end, you may not be able to put that much into the dumpster. With Junk King of Katy, however, we have just one rule: no hazardous materials. Other than that, we can take just about anything. You can load up your dumpster with old furniture, appliances, electronics, yard waste, trash, mattresses, and even DIY construction debris. If you have any questions about what you can put into one of our dumpsters, just ask.

Why Rent a Dumpster from Junk King of Katy?

Junk King is known as one top names in Katy junk removal services. We provide both standard junk hauling services and residential dumpster rental. We also work with local businesses and offer commercial dumpster rental and junk pickup.

Our pricing structure is perhaps the best reason why you should work with Junk King when it comes to renting a dumpster. Many places will simply charge you the same fee for your rental, even if you only use a small amount of the dumpster. We don’t. Instead, we start with a minimum fee that’s typically much less than our competitors. If you don’t use much of the dumpster, you may not pay more than that. If you do fill the dumpster up to the halfway point, you’ll pay a little more. If you fill it up, you’ll pay the maximum price. This gives you even more motivation to pack your dumpster as tightly as possible since you’ll save money by doing so.

When we pick up items or collect your dumpster, the first thing we do is to go to our warehouse and begin sorting through it. First, we’ll take anything that’s in good condition and set it aside to be donated. If you have an old chair or table that’s in good condition, a refrigerator that still works, or anything else that can be used by someone else, we’ll see to it that it gets to one of our local partners. These organizations help those in need, and your items will go to someone who can use them.

Of course, some things simply cannot be used any longer. If they’re made from recyclable material, we will send them to a recycling center. We’ll even take apart larger items so the recyclable parts get reused. Our goal is to greatly reduce what ends up in the landfill.

Junk King Katy Moving to Katy TX

Things to know if you are moving to Katy, TX

Are you thinking about moving to Katy, TX? This city has a lot of great things about it. While it’s considered a part of the Greater Houston Metro, Katy itself is considered the hub of the Greater Katy area. The population in Katy TX isn’t as overwhelming as Houston—there are a little over 20,000 people in the city itself. Katy has grown over the years, though, and is now home to those who want access to everything Houston has to offer but also don’t want to live in a large city.

If you’re planning a move to the area, here are a few things you should know ahead of time so that move goes smoothly and doesn’t stress you out too much.

The Katy Quadrants

Katy is an interesting city as far as layout goes because it’s perfectly split into four sections by Grand Parkway 99 and Highway 10. These two highways allow you to get just about anywhere very quickly. Hop on I-10, and in 45 minutes, you’re in downtown Houston. TX-99, which runs north and south, gives you access to Cypress, Sugarland, and more.

Each area of Katy is a little different. Old Katy, which sits in the northwest, is a mix of old and new construction. You’ll find large, spacious lots and homes here, plus Downtown Katy. On the opposite side of TX-99 is North Katy. This is the newer area of the city, so you’ll see new construction going on here fairly often. If you’re looking for a new home, this may be the place to start.

To the south of I-10, you’ll find the Southeast and Southwest Katy quadrants. In the southeast, you’ll find some of Katy’s most popular neighborhoods as well as great schools. The southwest area is known for being home to Cinco Ranch, a planned community that is often on “top 10 places to live in the Houston area” lists. This part of Katy is also home to other planned communities, so if you’re looking for houses for rent in Katy TX, it’s not a bad place to start your search.

Most People Commute

Even though you’re moving to Katy TX, you may not be working there. Many people who live in the city work in Houston, Sugar Land, or another nearby area. Thanks to the easy access to the two highways, your commute won’t be too bad once you understand the flow of traffic. Like any metro area, Houston has its own unique traffic flow, and until you experience it, it can be hard to tell exactly how long your commute time will be. Once you’ve spent a few weeks in the area, though, you’ll likely know exactly when to leave and what shortcuts to take to make your commute a breeze.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Katy has many amazing parks and other outdoor spaces. If you love relaxing outside, have kids, or have dogs who like going on long walks, you’ll find the green spaces in Katy are incredible. No matter where you live, there’s likely a park within a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk. These parks plus the hiking and bike trails you’ll find around the city are one of the many reasons why many people have moved to Katy.

Shopping and Dining

The Katy Mills Outlet Mall is one of the biggest shopping destinations in the area. It’s also home to some of the best restaurants in Katy. When you first move to the city, this is one of the places you’ll want to visit to pick up anything you need for your new home. There’s also a popular movie theater here, so it’s a good place to take a break once you get settled in.

Housing Costs are Rising

While there are many houses for rent in Katy TX, you’ll also find homes for sale. Due to how popular Katy has become, though, housing prices are on the rise. This means if you plan on buying, you’ll want to look sooner rather than later. The good news is that if you do buy a home and the market trends continue as they are, you’re making an excellent investment. According to Zillow, in 2022, home prices have increased by more than 23 percent. Housing prices in Downtown Houston tend to be higher, but some of the other neighboring suburbs are going to be lower in cost. However, these other suburbs may not have the top-tier schools, number of parks, and other amenities that you’ll find in Katy TX.

Of course, buying a house isn’t your only option. You’ll find many apartments in Katy that are very reasonably priced. Renting means you still get to take advantage of everything Katy has to offer, but you don’t have a mortgage payment or have to worry about taking care of a home. Renting may be the right option for you, especially if you don’t have time to search for the perfect home before you have to move to the city.

Be Ready for the Weather

Katy is located in what is classified as a humid subtropical location. This means the summers are going to be pretty warm, and the humidity may be unexpected if you haven’t lived in an area with high humidity before. The winters, however, will be fairly mild. The biggest thing that may be a concern for you weather-wise is the potential for tropical storms and hurricanes. While they’re not as common as they are in Florida or Louisiana, hurricanes have hit Houston before. Learning what to expect from one is important if you’re moving to Katy TX.

In addition to hurricanes, the humid summers also bring mosquitos. Be prepared to deal with these pests as well as chiggers, ticks, gnats, and fleas. You’ll certainly want to have some bug spray on hand. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you may want to look for a home or apartment that includes a screened in porch or balcony so you can get some fresh air without being eaten up by bugs.

Know How to Deal with Junk and Garbage

While the City of Katy’s regular garbage service will take care of most of your daily trash, if you have any large items or a lot of DIY project debris, you may want to look into junk removal services. These services will haul away anything you have except hazardous wastes, so they’re perfect for getting rid of broken appliances or old furniture. Junk King of Katy is here to help you with anything you’ve decided doesn’t work with your new home and with the debris created from remodeling.

When You Need Junk Removal in Katy

There are many times you might need to search for “junk removal near me.” One of those times is when you’re moving. You may have some junk that you don’t want to move with you, so you’ll need to look into junk removal in your current location. However, there’s also a chance that you’ll get to your new home and decide some of the stuff you’ve moved just doesn’t fit. Maybe the space isn’t as large as you thought it would be, or maybe a bookshelf came apart during the trip and can’t be repaired. You’ll also have packing material, boxes, and other items you may no longer need after you get unpacked. Katy junk removal services can take care of all of this for you.

If you plan on doing any remodeling, you’ll certainly need to look into junk removal. The city’s trash service will not pick up items that fall into the category of construction debris. This means old tile, drywall, and other items can’t go into your trash. You’ll also likely have a lot of this debris if you’re doing a full room renovation or other major DIY projects. You’ll want to get rid of all of this trash at once. Junk King will take it all, and our trucks are big enough that we can usually do it in just one load.

We Recycle and Donate

Some furniture and other items you want to get rid of may still be in usable condition. Instead of taking those items to the landfill, Junk King will sort them out and pass them along to one of our local partners. These charitable organizations will see to it that these items are given to those who need them.

Broken or damaged items that cannot be used may not go to the landfill, either. Instead, we will send them to one of our recycling partners. Even items such as old sofas may not go into the landfill as they are. We will remove any components that can be recycled. Our goal is to contribute as little as possible to the dump.

What We Take

Junk King takes a wide variety of different items, including furniture, televisions, electronic wastes, yard debris, construction waste, old hot tubs, mattresses, and freezers. Basically, we can haul away anything as long as it doesn’t contain hazardous waste. For anything that is hazardous, we may be able to direct you to someone who can handle it.

Do you love to spend time in your backyard? If not, why not? For some, the answer is that the space simply isn’t what they need. They may not have a good indoor/outdoor living space, or there may not be enough grass or shade. For others, their backyard may include an old shed, worn patio, and landscaping that’s in need of an update. If you don’t have the perfect backyard oasis, don’t worry—you can actually create it fairly easily. Renovating your backyard doesn’t have to be expensive, especially if you’re willing to do some of the work yourself. Here are a few tips that will help you create a space you love.

Determine What You Need in Your Perfect Backyard

Before you start digging up flowerbeds or pouring a new concrete patio, take some time to think about what you really want and need. If you have kids or dogs, you may want space for them to play. If you often have family and friends over for cookouts, you may need a larger patio space and an outdoor kitchen. If you love swimming, you may even want to put in a pool, although that is a much more costly renovation.

By making a list of what you want and planning out how your yard should look when it’s finished, you’ll find the entire renovation process is much easier. You’ll know what needs to change, what you want to take out or add, and what contractors you might need. You may need someone to pour your new patio, a crew to build a deck, or a junk removal service to haul away any debris that’s left from these projects.

Assess Your Yard

As part of the planning process, you also want to assess your yard. What are its major components? You may have a patio, a deck, a shed, several trees, some flowerbeds, or other items. Also include things such as your HVAC compressor unit and any utility meters you have in your backyard. You’ll need to take these items into account when planning out your renovation.

If you plan on putting in a pool, adding a concrete patio, or bringing in a new shed, you should also have your utility lines marked. If you pour a patio over your water line and then the line breaks, you may have to tear up that patio to make repairs.

Next, assess the condition of each of these items. Is your shed in good shape? How is your deck holding up? Do you have cracks in your concrete patio? Even if you plan on keeping these items, your backyard renovation is the perfect time to give them an update or make necessary repairs. Think how your cracked patio will look when the rest of your space is finished and brand new.

The third thing you’ll want to make a note of is how much you use the item. If your shed is mostly empty, it might be time to replace it with a smaller option or look for someone to help with shed removal. If you don’t spend any time out on your large patio, do you really need it? Maybe you could shrink it down and give your kids more yard to play in. You may have inherited some large flowerbeds from the property’s previous owner, but if you don’t have the time to keep up with them, it may be better to simply remove them. If you have an old swing set your kids have outgrown, why keep it? Look for swing set removal options and free up that space.

Create a Plan for the Renovation

Now that you understand the current state of your backyard, it’s time to think about what you want to change. Going into a renovation without a plan is a good way to waste time and money. The last thing you want is to begin a project and then realize partway through that it won’t fit in the space you have or that you horribly underestimated the cost. Having a plan will ensure you get everything done on time and on budget.

Start with Getting Rid of Things

The first step is to determine what you want to get rid of. This way, you can create a blank canvas to build on. Once you get your old shed, deck, and other things out of your backyard, you may realize that the space isn’t quite what you thought it was. This can help you make adjustments to your plan before you spend any money on construction. It also lets you plan out when you need a junk hauling service. You can do a search for “junk removal near me” and get quotes before you even begin.

New call-to-action

Know What You Can DIY

Make a list of the tasks you can do yourself. This may include taking down the old deck or shed, putting in a paver stone walkway, and redoing the landscaping. By handling some of the tasks yourself, you can plan out when you’ll need to bring in some help.

Learn about Flowers

What do you know about flowers, especially flowers that thrive in your climate? If you want to have a flowerbed or two, it can help to learn about local flora while looking into flower bed ideas. If you’d love some flowers but know you don’t have a lot of time to care for them, you’ll want to look for some plants that don’t need a lot of attention. You may want perennials that come back each year so you don’t have to replant flowers every spring. Also, be sure that the flower bed ideas you decide to implement take into account the season. Some flowers should be planted in the fall, while others may need to be planted in the spring or summer.

How Junk King of Katy Can Help

Now that you have outlined your plan and know what you can handle on your own, you’ve likely realized just how much debris you’re going to have to get rid of. Even if you’re not taking down a shed or removing a patio, you’ll still have some trash. If you build a deck, for example, you’ll have to trim some boards. This will leave you with some scrap bits of wood that you need to get rid of. You may have dead bushes, cut limbs, and old paver stones that have to go.

That’s where Junk King can help. We have the crew and the equipment needed to haul all of this debris away, and in most cases, it will only take us one trip. In just a few hours, we’ll have the garbage hauled off, and you can begin transforming your yard.

What We Take

When you look for something like “shed removal near me,” you’re likely only thinking about getting rid of that old shed. While we can certainly do that, we’re also a full-service junk removal company. This means we can also get rid of that old recliner, the worn-out mattress, and that busted TV you have in the garage. We will haul away appliances, refrigerators, hot tubs, and even construction waste. The only thing we can’t deal with is hazardous waste.

When we do take items, we try to recycle or donate whatever we can. For example, you may have an old patio furniture set with a broken table and two busted chairs. If the other two chairs are still usable, we can set them aside to donate. We also pass on whatever we can to local recycling centers. That waste from building your deck can be recycled, as can the metal in the damaged patio chairs. At the end of the day, we aim to reduce our contribution to the landfill by as much as possible.

When you hire us for yard waste removal services, you won’t need to do anything to the debris. Leave it wherever it is. When we arrive, just point out what we need to haul away, and we’ll get to work. The same is true for anything in your home. You don’t have to move that old sofa out to the curb or even put it in your garage. We will carefully maneuver it out of your home. We want to make the entire process as easy as possible.

Why Junk Removal is Key to the Perfect Backyard

Things in the backyard can be large, bulky, or heavy. If you don’t own a truck, it can be hard for you to get rid of that old shed or deck. You can search online for things such as “swing set removal near me,” but many of the companies you’ll find won’t take everything Junk King does. We can get rid of those old pavers, the used shingles on the shed, and the nails from the old deck in the same load we take your old sofa, mattress, and refrigerator.

Are you ready to book a debris removal company? Call Junk King of Katy today at 1-888-888-JUNK to learn more about how we can help you make the ultimate backyard.
