A few years back, say a decade or two ago, nobody was concerned with the accumulation of waste in landfills. There was ample land to create new dumps, and the problem was not as significant as it is today. However, poor waste disposal would later become a disaster, and a solution had to be found. According to a 2016 EPA report, reusing created 1.57 jobs for every 1,000 tons of waste recycled. The total jobs created by recycling were 757,000 and generated more than $36 billion in wages.
So, recycling is good business.
