How Houston Junk Removal Can Help You Get Your Life Back

Has junk taken over your life? If it has, you need to take back your life. You shouldn’t be inconvenienced by junk. Unfortunately, many people are. They have an old refrigerator, sagging couch, or other items that they want to get rid of but never quite get around to actually tossing them. Sometimes this is a matter of timing—city bulk trash services only come around once a month or so. If you don’t remember to put your old furniture and other large items out the day before, you’ll have to store them somewhere for another month.

If you plan on hauling the items to the city landfill yourself, time is an issue. You have to load the items up in a truck and drive them to the landfill, and if you’re really busy, finding time to do that can be difficult. You’ve got to arrange that trip during the landfill’s hours of operation, too, which only makes it more difficult.

There’s another solution: call Junk King of North Houston. Our team will get rid of all that junk quickly, and you don’t even have to get it out of your house. If you’ve got junk you haven’t been able to get rid of for months, give us a call. It’s time to get your life back.

Learn More About Items We Take

Junk Takes Up Valuable Space

One of the biggest reasons to get rid of junk is because it takes up a lot of space. How much of your garage is dedicated to storing stuff you’ll never use again? What about your basement or attic? Maybe you’ve even shoved an old chair into your guest room or other space just to put it somewhere out of the way. Once it’s there, it’s often out of sight, out of mind. When you do remember that you need to arrange to get rid of it, you may not be in a position to actually take care of that task right away. This can go on for months or even years. If it’s something you’ve put in the corner of the basement, you may not even see it again until you move.

No matter where the item is, it’s taking up space that you could use for something else. If you can’t park a car in your garage because of all the stuff you have in there, take a good look at what you’re actually storing. How much of it is useful? If the answer is not much, then you have to ask yourself why you’re keeping it and what you could use that space for.

By getting rid of the junk you’re storing and organizing what’s left, you may have space to park your car in the garage. You might be able to move some things out of your house, freeing up more room in a closet or guest room. Having space tied up by junk can have more of an impact on your home than you might think, especially once you stop and add up just how much room you’ve lost to things you don’t ever plan on using again.

Get Rid of Safety Hazards

Old appliances and furniture can do more than just take up space—they can also be a safety hazard. Children, pets, and other animals can get trapped inside of old refrigerators or dryers if the doors aren’t removed or taped shut. Even then, these appliances can be dangerous because they look like great places to play.

Old furniture and other items may have sharp places on them that people could get cut on. Wooden furniture that has a broken section could cause someone to get a splinter under their skin, too. Depending on where and how you’ve placed the junk, it’s possible it could tip over and fall on someone. If you have to store old items before they can be hauled away, always think about safety concerns and do your best to ensure that your kids, pets, animals, and even other adults can’t easily get hurt.

Another hazard old furniture presents is that it makes a great home for pests and rodents. If you put an old chair in the garage, it could become home for mice or rats. Insects may also enjoy living under furniture where it’s dark and safe.

Junk Can Ruin Your Vision for Your Home

When we think about junk, we often think about furniture, appliances, and other items. However, Junk King Houston North also deals with structures that need to be removed. This type of junk, including old sheds, playhouses, decks, and patios, can affect your overall vision of your home. You may be very tired of looking out the window at what should be a serene, gorgeous backyard. Instead, all you see is the deck off your back door that’s slowly falling apart.

We take DIY construction debris and even yard trash, so you can take down all those old structures and give us a call to haul them away. Like with storing old appliances and furniture, these old structures can present a safety hazard. You don’t want anyone getting hurt, and with something like an old deck, it’s very possible. They could lean on the railing and fall when it breaks or even step on a rotting board and fall through. Animals may also make their homes in old sheds and playhouses or go under the deck. These animals could hurt your own pets or kids if startled.

Aesthetics also play a part here. You don’t want to see rotting and ugly wood when you look out your windows. If you’ve carefully curated your flowerbeds, trimmed your trees, and made your yard look amazing, you don’t want it ruined by an ugly building. If you have any structure that is unsafe, you need to take it down right away.

We Haul Off More than Just Junk

What do you do if you have some old furniture or an appliance that is still in good condition or works but you don’t need? Maybe you’ve replaced it with something nicer or have decided that there’s just no place for that old sleeper sofa or recliner? It’s not junk, but it has no place in your home.

There are some charities and other organizations you can call that will come pick up these items. Often, though, they are limited in what they can take. They may not have any space for additional furniture or simply not need what you have. In some cases, they may not have a vehicle large enough to pick up the items you’re offering. Some may also take weeks or even months to schedule the pickup.

Junk King may focus on hauling away junk, but that doesn’t mean we take it all to the landfill. We actually sort through everything we take and donate what we can. If you have items that are still in good condition, we’ll take them. You can let us know that you think they could be donated, but you don’t have to. We’ll check through everything once we get it back to our warehouse. We work with multiple organizations, too, so even if one doesn’t need anymore kitchen tables or sofas, another might.

In addition to donating usable items, we will also go through everything and pull out recyclable materials. We send these items off to local recycling centers. We’ll even take apart furniture and other items to recycle as many of the base materials as possible. Our donation and recycling services are included in every job we do at no extra cost to you.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Dumpster Rental in Houston

Renting a dumpster can be one of the best ways of dealing with a lot of junk. Dumpsters give you tons of room for trash, making them ideal for cleaning out your home or doing a DIY renovation. Many people are tempted to simply order up a dumpster and start chucking stuff in it. However, this isn’t the most effective way of using a dumpster and, in some cases, may end up costing you more money.

If you’ve rented a dumpster, you want to be sure you use it as efficiently and effectively as possible. Here are a few tips for making the most of your dumpster rental in Houston.

Have a Plan

Before you even order your dumpster rental, you need to have a plan. When do you need the dumpster? How long will you need it? Where will it go? You need to have all of these questions answered because the rental company will need to know this information. You may need to arrange days off of work or line up other people’s schedules before you can determine when you actually need the dumpster delivered. You need to have the project’s schedule in place before you arrange to have a dumpster delivered. Otherwise, you may find that you have to extend your rental period or even send the dumpster back empty.

Scheduling the Dumpster

Many people schedule the dumpster to arrive on the first day of their project. Sometimes that’s perfect, but other times, it may not be. How much will you use the dumpster on the first day? If you’re doing a DIY kitchen renovation, you may use it a lot since the first day is likely going to be demolition. However, if you’re sorting through a basement, attic, or even an entire house, you may find that you don’t add much to the dumpster on day one. Instead, it might be better to have some items ready to go when the dumpster arrives. Having delivery scheduled on the second day, then, might make more sense.

Knowing when you want the dumpster delivered will also help you plan out how long you’ll need it. While you can typically add on extra days if you need to, it’s always best to avoid that when possible so you can stick to your planned budget.

Determining its Location

Where will you have the dumpster placed? Many people put it in their driveway simply because putting it on the street can cause some issues with the city. You also don’t want to put it on the yard because it will leave indentions and can kill the grass. However, you do want to be sure it’s positioned on the driveway in such a way that you can still access your garage and park your car alongside the dumpster.

This is one of the reasons why Junk King offers the MINI, a small dumpster that holds up to twelve cubic yards. That’s a lot of space, but the dumpster is also compact enough to fit in a driveway without taking up too much space. If your drive is wide enough, we may be able to put the dumpster off to the side and still leave you plenty of space to get your car into the garage.

Preparing for the Dumpster’s Arrival

Before the dumpster arrives, you’ll want to make certain the area where it’s to be placed is clear. You also need to be sure the truck has enough space to offload the dumpster. If you live on a fairly narrow street and your neighbors across from you typically park cars on the street or have cars at the end of their drive, you might need to talk to them. They may need to move their cars so the truck can pull into their drive before backing up to yours. On narrow streets, if there are cars on either side, it can be a very tight fit for large trucks.

If you’re going to have the dumpster delivered on the second day of your project, you’ll need a space to set junk aside for the dumpster. This may be in your garage or even on your back porch. Remember if you put anything on your driveway, it may need to be moved so the dumpster can be delivered. Also keep in mind that your neighbors may not like seeing a lot of junk out on your yard. They could report you to the city, so be sure you know what the laws are. In most places, as long as items aren’t visible from the street, you can’t be fined.

If you plan on parking your car in the garage, make sure the dumpster is placed so that you can drive in without hitting anything you have stored in the garage. If you have shelving, a workbench, or items stored on one side of the garage, you may want the dumpster placed on that side. Otherwise, you may have to move things in the garage to get your car in.

Break the Project Down into Small Pieces

What are you planning to do that you need a dumpster? You likely have a general idea, but if you break everything down into small steps, you’ll be able to get to work and continue working efficiently without too many breaks to figure out what to do next. If you’re remodeling your kitchen, for example, you should plan out what you’ll do on day one, day two, etc. Day one may be demolition, while day two is to put in new drywall and flooring.

If you’re cleaning out some or all of a house, know what room you’re starting with. Have an idea of what you want to move out first. For example, if you have a few large pieces of furniture that you know you won’t keep, plan on getting those out first if you can. By putting them in the dumpster, you’ll clear up space inside to work. You’ll also load the dumpster the right way—large, heavy items should always go on the bottom.

Need additional information? Learn more about our dumpster rental services.

Know How to Load a Dumpster

Speaking of putting large items on the bottom, it helps to learn how to load a dumpster before you start. You always want to put heavy items on the bottom in layers. The goal is to balance the weight so the dumpster won’t shift unexpectedly when it’s being lifted onto the truck. If you don’t have enough heavy items to make a layer, put them all in the center of the dumpster. Don’t overfill the dumpster, either. Nothing should stick up over the sides.

Another tip is to leave as few empty pockets as possible. Try to fill every space with bags of trash or some small items. Empty spaces allow things to shift during pickup, which again can knock the dumpster off-balance. With Junk King dumpsters, filling every space can also actually save you money. That’s because your final cost depends on how much of the dumpster you’ve used. If you can keep it down to about half, you’ll save money.

Understand What You Can Put in a Dumpster

Do you know what you can put in the dumpster and what you can’t? Some dumpster rental companies have very strict rules about what you can put in their dumpsters, and they will charge you if you put any of these forbidden items in. Here at Junk King, our only rule is that we cannot take anything that is hazardous. We do take appliances, furniture, electronics, yard waste, construction DIY, and other trash. If you have any questions about what may or may not be considered hazardous, all you have to do is call and ask. If it can’t go in our dumpster, we may know where you can take it. Anything you can put in a Junk King dumpster can also be hauled off by our junk hauling crews.

Why Rent a Dumpster from Junk King?

There are many dumpster rental companies out there, so what makes Junk King North Houston the right option for you? Besides the fact that we take just about everything, there’s also our unique pricing structure. As mentioned earlier, we charge by how much of the dumpster you use. If you end up not needing it for much, you’ll pay the base rental price. If you fill it halfway up, you’ll pay a little more, but you’ll only pay the maximum if you fill the entire dumpster. All of our dumpster quotes include all applicable fees and other charges. We are fully committed to transparent, upfront pricing on all of our services.

Turn to Junk King North Houston when Your Construction Company has Junk!

As an owner of a construction company, you know building is only a part of your job. The opposite—demolition—is also often a major task you have to undertake. Even if you aren’t demolishing old buildings to make way for new ones, you also generate a good amount of rubbish during any project. You have to do something with this trash. One great way is to work with a junk hauling and dumpster rental company like Junk King North Houston. We can help you get rid of any garbage you have on-site, allowing your team to focus on the project instead of the trash.

Construction Sites and Garbage

What junk will you have to deal with as a construction company owner? There’s a good amount of different types of debris. The first type comes with preparing the land for building upon. If there’s an existing structure that you’re getting rid of, the demolition part of the process is going to generate a large amount of debris. You’ll need to have all of this junk removed before you can do anything. Often, that means using large machinery to knock the building down, then placing it in dumpsters or on large trucks. Even if you’re just demolishing a small shed or other building, you’re still going to have some debris to remove.

Even if you start with untouched land, there’s still going to be some debris. You may have to remove trees or get rid of out-of-control landscaping. The land may not be level enough to build on, either, so some dirt may need to be removed. All of that must be removed from the site before you can bring in all of your equipment and begin the build.

Once you start construction, there’s still more debris that has to be hauled away. You’ll be cutting wood, metal, and other materials to fit the blueprints, leaving behind small pieces that can’t be used for anything else. This trash has to go somewhere. It may not seem like much when you only have a few inches of leftover wood, but these small remnants add up over time. You may also have packaging and other materials used to transport your supplies that will need to be thrown away. If you let any of this garbage pile up, it can quickly get out of hand.

Need additional information? Learn more about our dumpster rental services.

Dumpster or Junk Hauling?

This leads to the question: do you need to rent a dumpster for your next construction job or should you use a junk hauling service? It depends, and in some cases, you may want to use both. You may want to make use of junk hauling after you tear down any existing structures. You need that junk to get cleared out of the space quickly, so you may not have time to wait for dumpster pickup. There may also be so much debris that a single dumpster won’t be enough. Having a few trucks that can haul off all the debris at once can be helpful.

However, once that’s done, you’ll definitely want to have a dumpster on site for the amount of trash you generate on a daily basis. All that packaging and leftover material has to go somewhere. Garbage cans aren’t going to be enough. You’ll need to have a good-sized dumpster to hold all of it. You’ll probably need to have that dumpster emptied regularly, too. If you use junk hauling for this, you’ll still have to have some place to put all the trash. Why not simply have a dumpster to throw it all in? This will keep the trash contained and make it much easier to haul it away.

If you don’t have much to clear away from the site before work can commence, you may simply need to have a dumpster brought in. During the project, if you notice that your dumpster is filling up often or that you suddenly have too much trash for it to hold, you may need to have Junk King bring in a large truck and empty your dumpster. We can then change your dumpster pickup schedule so that it is emptied more often.

Why It’s Important to Remove Debris from the Work Site

Why should you be so concerned about the amount of trash that accumulates at your work site? Why not wait until the end to get rid of it all? There are a few different reasons. Many construction sites generate a lot of debris. If you’re working on a large project, you’re going to have a lot of materials coming in and out. You’ll have packaging to deal with along with the small ends and other remainders of materials to throw away. You may have to do additional leveling in some areas, so you may have some additional grass and landscaping to remove. If something is done wrong and the material can’t be reused, you’ll have those materials to throw away, too.

All of this trash adds up. When it does, it can take up vital room that you need for parking, storage, or working. Your team’s workspace may continue to get smaller and smaller as the trash adds up. It can become harder and harder to find space to get work done.

This also opens up a number of safety concerns. A lack of space can lead to accidents, especially if your crew doesn’t have the space to move around safely. Trash all over can result in trips, too. Someone could easily fall over small pieces of debris since they make the walkway uneven. It’s even possible someone could cut themselves on the sharp corners of leftover material. Putting it all in a dumpster gets it out of the way and keeps all the trash contained to one area. It’s much safer than piling it up somewhere.

What Junk King Offers

Junk King North Houston offers both junk hauling and dumpster rental for residents and businesses in the area. We can come haul off any debris you have, plus our dumpsters are designed to fit in small areas while still providing a good amount of space. We will work with you to determine the right option for you and your budget as well as your schedule.

Unlike some junk hauling or dumpster rental companies, Junk King hauls away a large amount of stuff. We can take just about anything as long as it isn’t hazardous waste. If you’re demolishing a structure that still contains furniture or appliances, we can take those out for you. We also handle electronic waste, yard waste, construction waste, and much more. We can even dispose of paint as long as it’s mixed with a solidifying agent such as sawdust or cat litter.

We Recycle and Donate What We Can

Unlike some companies, we don’t simply haul everything straight to the landfill. Instead, we go through the truck or dumpster and sort it into three piles. If anything can be donated, such as furniture that’s still in good condition or an appliance that still works, we will pass it along to one of our North Houston partner agencies. These organizations see to it that the items get to those in need. While this may not be something that happens too often with construction, we will make sure anything you do have that can be used is donated.

It’s much more likely that you will have leftover materials that can be recycled. Wood, metal, and other types of materials that are untreated, which is typically the case with scraps left over from construction, can be recycled. We work closely with different recycling companies to take these scraps or old materials and recycle them. Our goal is to limit what goes to the landfill, and by donating and recycling, we have greatly cut down our impact on the environment.

That’s not to say that we don’t still take things to the dump. Unfortunately, there are a number of items and materials that still cannot be recycled or reused. In some cases, we do still have to use a landfill. However, what ends up there from one of our trucks or dumpsters is only a fraction of what we pick up.

Our Pricing Structure

We charge by how much space your trash uses in our dumpster. This means when you have a full dumpster, you’ll pay the maximum price. However, if you have a period where you don’t create that much trash, you’ll pay less. This means that towards the end of the project when most of the major construction is done, you won’t be charged as much. This helps keep your costs down. All of our rental fees are fully transparent, so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for.

For our junk hauling service, we’ll give you a transparent, free estimate before we start. There’s no obligation to use our services even after you get a quote, so you can compare pricing with our competitors if you like. In the end, though, we truly believe you’ll find that Junk King North Houston offers the most comprehensive services at the best prices.

How to Make the Most of Your North Houston Dumpster Rental

When you have a small about of junk, hiring a junk removal service is the right move. However, if you have a lot of stuff or are doing a project that will create more trash as you go, having a dumpster may be a better option. When you do look into dumpster rental, however, you want to make certain you’re getting the best value. While the base price is one of the factors to consider, you also want to look at how you can make the most of your dumpster so you don’t have to keep it longer than necessary. Here are a few tips to help you efficiently utilize your dumpster so you get everything cleared out but don’t pay more than you have to.

Know if You Really Need a Dumpster

When you search for “junk removal near me,” you’ll likely see many results for junk hauling services as well as dumpster rental. Which one is right for you? It really depends on your project. If you rent a dumpster and then realize you don’t need it, you may have wasted money. The main thing to think about is whether or not you need a place to put junk during your project. If you’re sorting through a garage, basement, attic, or entire house, you’ll likely be putting things into piles to keep or trash. Having a dumpster you can take all the trash items to immediately helps free up space, making it easier to sort through the rest of the items.

For a project such as remodeling your kitchen, renovating a bathroom, or removing an old shed or deck, you’ll need some place to put the old items you’re removing. A dumpster is a great place for this. If you pile up the old wood, cabinets, or flooring, it can present a safety issue. Someone could trip over the debris. It’s also possible someone could get hurt on the nails, screws, and other fasteners sticking out of the trash. Keeping this garbage contained in a dumpster is safer.

If you have a few pieces of furniture or know that you’ll be able to get everything together in one pile, calling a service that handles junk removal in North Houston could be your better option. The only downside is that you may have to wait a day or two before the items can be picked up. If you’ve got a large pile of debris, it can be a risk to others, especially pets and children.

Have a Plan for Your Houston Dumpster Rental

Before you even look into Houston dumpster rental, you want to have an idea of your project and the trash it’s likely to create. If you’re cleaning out your basement, how much do you anticipate will be trash? If you’re doing a home remodel, when will you have debris to take out? It can be hard to have a set schedule, but you should have a good idea of when you’ll need the dumpster and when you’ll be finished with it.

With a plan, you’ll know when you’re ready to rent the dumpster. You’ll know when it should be delivered and when it should be picked up. This way, you’re not spending money on a dumpster that’s just sitting in your driveway empty.

Another reason having a plan will help is that you can arrange the rest of your schedule. You can put in for the right days off, arrange for your pets to be boarded or for childcare, and schedule other things that may take you away from the project. By making your remodel, cleanout, or other task the focus for a few days, you’ll get everything wrapped up quickly.

Arrange for Help with the Project

The amount of help, if any, will depend on what type of project you’re doing. If you’re doing a DIY remodel, having a few people on hand to help you with demo will make it go very quickly. You’ll have everything torn up and out to the dumpster within a day or two. If you’re cleaning out the basement or a loved one’s home, you may also want to have some help. You may need someone to assist you with moving heavy items out to the dumpster as you sort through them. If you’re dealing with the home of a loved one who has recently passed, having someone there for emotional support can also be very helpful.

If you’re having a contractor handle some or all of your remodel, they may arrange your residential dumpster rental for you. If they don’t, be sure you know when they will begin your project and when they will want the dumpster to be ready for use. If there’s any change in their schedule, you’ll want to know as soon as possible so you can reschedule the dumpster drop-off.

Pack Your Dumpster Correctly

When some people fill a dumpster, they simply start throwing stuff in it. However, this often leads to empty spaces, which means the dumpster fills up more quickly. You may call to have it picked up and emptied when, if it had been packed differently, you could have put a lot more in it.

The key to getting the most out of your dumpster rental in Houston is to put the largest stuff on the bottom. Put your furniture, large rolls of carpet, big sections of removed tile, and other items in first. Try your best to spread the weight out, and be sure to fill in small spaces with whatever little trash you have. It can be difficult to do if you’re pulling stuff out and sorting through it as you go. Furniture may have a lot of stuff on it you need to sort through first, but if possible, set that trash to one side until you can get to any furniture you plan on putting in the dumpster.

As you go, continue to try to fill in any gaps or other spaces. You may be able to squeeze some bags of trash between items, so do that whenever possible. Don’t worry about filling up every single inch of space, but do try to arrange things so that you’re not wasting a lot of the dumpster.

For Junk King, doing this can save you money. We charge by how much of the dumpster you fill up. If you have less than half of it full, you’ll pay less than if it was full to the top. Being careful with how you pack the dumpster, then, isn’t just about wasting space—it’s about saving money.

Why Junk King?

When you’re looking for Houston dumpster rental, why should you choose Junk King? In addition to our unique pricing structure, there are several reasons why we’re one of the top names in junk removal. Here are some of the things that set us apart from the competition:

We Take Just About Everything

Some companies that handle junk removal in Houston North have a very limited number of things they will take. Some won’t dispose of old mattresses, while others may not take electronic waste or want any type of yard debris. Junk King, however, takes almost anything. The only thing we cannot dispose of is hazardous waste, and that’s due to the risk it presents to our employees. We will take old furniture, appliances, televisions, electronics, yard waste, trash, mattresses, construction debris, and even old hot tubs. Our junk removal dumpster policy is the same as our junk hauling policy: anything not hazardous is fine!

We Donate and Recycle

When you look into Houston dumpster rental options, you won’t find many that will donate or recycle items. However, Junk King is dedicated to sending as little to the landfill as possible. We will sort through everything that’s in your dumpster and take out items that are still useful, including furniture and appliances. We send these to local charity organizations that will pass them on to those who need them.

Once that’s done, we sort out any items that can be recycled. If you have something that has components that can be recycled, such as the metal in appliances, we will remove it for recycling. Few companies will go this far, but we truly believe that our environment must be protected.

We Offer Commercial Dumpster Rental, Too

If you need trash dumpster rental in Houston for your business, we can provide that, too. We charge the same as we do for residential dumpsters, so if you don’t fill up the entire thing, you won’t pay as much.

Junk King North Houston Resources When Moving to Houston

Resources to Know Before Moving to North Houston

Are you thinking about moving to Houston? There are a lot of reasons why you may want to call this city your new home. Before you make the move, though, there are some things you’ll want to learn about. By having these resources on hand, your move will be much easier. Read on to learn about how to make your move to Houston as stress-free as possible!

Learn About the Community Before Moving to Houston

The first thing you should do is learn a little bit about the city. Houston has a varied and long history that makes it a very interesting place to live. For example, it’s home to both NASA and Beyonce. While those pieces of trivia may not impact your daily life, there are other facts that will. For example, the temperature in Houston is typically humid and warm. Even the winter months don’t get too cold. During the summer, you’ll want to be prepared with sunscreen and mosquito repellant.

Another fact about Houston is that it’s large. The city is sprawling, and public transportation hasn’t caught up yet. This means you’ll need a car to get around, especially if you’re living towards the edge of the city. You can also expect your commutes to be pretty long if you’re in the suburbs and work downtown.

Housing Prices Are Reasonable

While housing costs across the country have risen, Houston has remained affordable when compared to New York, LA, Chicago, Denver, and other comparable metro areas. The housing market here has continued to grow, which means there are a good number of new homes available. One of the first steps when moving to Houston is to secure housing, and you should be able to do that without too much trouble. In addition to purchasing a house, there are also a good number of houses for rent in Houston, Texas.

Line Up a Short-Term Rental if You Need to

If you’re moving to Houston from several states away, buying a house can be challenging. Fortunately, you will find a number of apartments in Houston TX that you can rent for short periods of time. While doing an online search may be the best place to start, if you’re moving for a job, be sure to ask your new employer if they have any connections. Many large corporations may even provide temporary housing for a few months until you can get settled. Others may provide a small moving stipend or other benefits. It never hurts to ask. Even if the company doesn’t provide any benefits on its own, it may be able to refer you to apartment complexes or other housing resources.

Get Your Utilities Lined Up

Whether you’re buying or renting, you’re likely going to have to have at least a few Houston County utilities turned on and put in your name. This includes electric, gas, water, garbage, internet, and any other utility you may need at your new home. For your water and garbage, you’ll want to contact the City of Houston. For electricity, your provider will likely be TXU Energy, a company that serves around seven million residents and businesses in the Houston area. If you will have natural gas at your home, you will likely need to contact CenterPoint Energy. There are a number of home phone, internet, and cable television providers in the city, so you’ll have your choice of most of the major names in those industries.

Look into Other Services You May Need

You may need other services in Houston, especially during your move. For example, if you plan to do any remodeling to a house before moving in, you may need to look into junk removal services so you aren’t stuck with the debris. You may also want to find a handyman or a contractor to assist you in any small renovations or updates you want to do. Knowing where the closest hardware store in Houston is will be very helpful, too. You may need to find a flooring store, an electrician, or any number of contractors. The internet can be your friend, but you can also talk to your new coworkers or neighbors for recommendations.

There are a couple of things many people do right away when they move into a new home. First, they hire one of the many different cleaning services in Houston to deep clean the house. Even if it all looks very clean, it never hurts to have a professional do a deep clean and disinfect everything. This way, you know you’re starting off in a clean home. Second, if you’ve bought the house, you will likely want to change the locks. You never know who the previous owner may have given keys to, so it’s always best to switch them out. You can hire someone to do it, or you can also buy a set of new locks and install them yourself.

Heavy Lifting, Without Moving A Muscle

Find New Healthcare Providers

Another thing you’ll need to do if you’re moving from out of state to Houston is to provide new healthcare providers, including a primary care physician and a dentist. Again, you can ask around for recommendations or look online. If you’re transferring to the Houston office of your current company, changing doctors will be easier since you’ll already have your insurance established. You’ll be able to see who is in-network in Houston and find someone taking new patients.

If you’re joining a new company, you may have to wait until all of the paperwork is done and your insurance has kicked in. This may leave you with several months of no coverage or doctor. Talk to your current doctor about renewing your prescriptions early or getting a three-month supply so you don’t have to worry about running out.

Go to the Local Post Office

Of course, you’ll want to be sure your mail gets delivered to you. In order to fully change your address, you may need to pay a visit to the local post office in Houston. You may need to contact your previous post office, too, to make certain your mail is forwarded. Depending on where you live, you may need to rent a post office box, too. Once you have your new address, you’ll need to begin changing it with any magazines, bills, and other services as well as sharing it with your friends and family.

Read Up on the Weather and Know What to Do

Another resource you want to have on hand, especially if you’ve always lived in the northern part of the country, is how to handle the tropical storms and hurricanes that occasionally hit Houston. Do you know where local shelters are or how to protect your home when one of these strong storms is predicted? You should also invest in a disaster preparedness kit. This isn’t to say that you need to be alarmed at every storm, but if you’ve never lived in an area that has hurricanes, it’s always best to understand what happens during one and what you should do to remain safe.

Clean Out Your Current Home

Whether you live out of state or near Houston and are moving to another part of the city, you may have a lot of junk to get rid of before you move. You’ll want to look into junk removal in Houston North if you live in the area. Even if you don’t, you may decide that some of the things you moved aren’t going to work in your new home. You may also have boxes and other packing materials that you need to get rid of. Junk removal services can help with that.

Instead of searching for “junk removal near me,” call Junk King of North Houston. We will come haul away furniture, old appliances, trash, yard debris, electronics, mattresses, and much more. If your new home came with a broken hot tub, we’ll even haul it away for you. As long as it doesn’t contain hazardous waste, we’ll get rid of it.

Learn More About Items We Take

We Donate and Recycle

Even though you may have moved furniture that you now realize doesn’t have a place in your new Houston home, it may not be garbage. Junk King is one of the few junk haulers that doesn’t simply take everything to the dump. Instead, we’ll carefully go through anything you have us pick up to separate out what can still be used and what can be recycled. If it’s in good shape, we’ll pass it on to a local charitable organization. They will see that it gets to someone who can use it.

If your furniture or other items aren’t in good condition, we will break them down and recycle whatever components can be reused. Our goal is to send as little to the landfill as possible. There are some items that simply cannot be reused or recycled, of course, but we do try to limit what we dump to just those items.

Whether you need junk removal in North Houston to get rid of things before you move or after you’ve completed some renovation projects on your new home, Junk King is here for you. Contact us today at 1-888-888-JUNK or text us at 1-737-888-5865.

When a loved one passes, there’s a lot to go through. In the short term, you have to start telling family and friends the sad news, which can be very emotionally taxing. Then you typically plan a funeral or other type of memorial. Once all of these tasks are done, you’re still not finished. While you may have completed much of the personal part of the loss of a loved one, there are still the legal tasks to deal with—filing for any life insurance policies, closing accounts, and managing their estate.

The last of these tasks can be especially taxing because you may have to face selling their property, including their home. What do you do with all of their possessions? While you and other family members may want to take some keepsakes, there are likely things that no one will want. In some cases, they may have items that are simply no longer usable. If you’re in need of help with junk removal in North Houston, Junk King can help. Here are some thoughts on handling a loved one’s property and how to go about dispersing it.

Wait Until You Are Ready

Even with a will in hand, there’s an unfortunate truth about the probate process: it’s going to take months, if not a year or more. This means multiple court dates, paperwork to file, and other things that you will want to consult a lawyer about. The one good thing about this lengthy process is that it does mean you don’t have to immediately start sorting through your loved one’s possessions. You don’t want to put it off for too long, but you do have time to process your grief. It can be very hard to walk into a loved one’s home in the days or weeks after their passing and start sorting through their property without breaking down. Even if you want a few months, you’re still going to be hit with their loss. That’s okay. Don’t start cleaning up until you’re ready if that’s an option.

Sadly, sometimes it’s not. If your loved one was in an assisted living center or other care facility, they may not be able to give you that time. In that case, it helps to bring in another family member or close friend to lean on. Together, you may be able to handle this task more easily than if you were on your own. The workers at the care facility are also a resource you can lean on. They may be able to help box up your loved one’s personal items.

If you need to get rid of furniture or other large items, there are assisted living cleanout services available. Junk King doesn’t just clean out homes—we also assist in removing junk and other items from apartments, assisted living homes, and more. You don’t have to handle all of the work yourself.

Have Help

Dealing with the loss of a loved one isn’t easy on the best of days, and cleaning out their home is certainly not going to be one of those. If at all possible, have someone with you. Having a friend or family member with you will give you emotional support as well as make it easier to sort through items. They may be able to view items with a more objective eye and help you see what are priceless heirlooms and what you can let go.

Have a Plan

With time to help you address your grief and a trusted friend by your side, it’s time to create a plan for dealing with your loved one’s physical property. First, take stock of what you’re dealing with. Are there a lot of items in the home that you know are garbage? If your loved one had hoarder tendencies or has a basement or attic full of old, broken things, you may have a lot of garbage.

You may need to look into junk removal services, but you may also want to consider renting a dumpster. Junk King offers affordable dumpster rental that’s perfect for a home cleanout. Our dumpsters are designed to be small enough to fit in a driveway without damaging it but provide enough space for a large amount of garbage.

Why use a dumpster? It’s a good option if you have to sort through everything and separate out the good from the junk. During an estate cleanout, you’re likely going to come across things you need to keep but also things you don’t. Having a dumpster nearby means you can immediately take out the junk so it’s not in your way. You can declutter the property as you sort through items, which can be very helpful if you know you’re going to put the property up for sale once you’ve finished the estate cleanout.

If you decide not to rent a dumpster, be ready to give Junk King a call once you’re done with the cleanout. It’s very likely that you’ll have a good amount of stuff you want to get rid of, and we’ll be glad to come haul it away for you.

Get Firm Commitments from People who Want Items

One of the worst parts about dealing with someone’s estate is when a family member says they want something but doesn’t come get it. You may be stuck holding a bedroom set, large sofas, or other items for weeks or months while a relative says they’ll be over to get them “soon.” If you don’t have room for them in your home, you may end up holding on to your loved one’s house or paying for a storage unit while you wait.

Make certain anyone you offer items to understands that they need to pick them up quickly. You can’t hold on to them forever. While letting others take some of your loved one’s possessions is great, you’re the one who is stuck storing them, and that can cost you money.

Donating Usable Items

If you have furniture, appliances, and other items that are in good condition but that no one wants, you should consider donating them. This is a great way of passing on usable items, helping those in need, and protecting the environment. However, one roadblock many people face with donations is that they have to deliver the items to the donation center. Some organizations may have trucks capable of picking up large items, but many don’t.

However, this is where Junk King can once again help you. While we are a junk removal company, we do more than simply haul items straight to the landfill. We are dedicated to reducing our impact on the environment, and that means we donate or recycle as much as we can. When we pick up items, we will sort through them and set aside anything that is still in usable condition. We then take these items to one of our local charities and other partner organizations. They either use the items themselves or pass them on to those in need.

If something is damaged beyond usability, we look at whether or not it can be recycled. If it can be, we send it to a local recycling center. Even if the entire item can’t be recycled, we will remove any recyclable components. At the end of the day, only a fraction of what we pick up when doing junk clean up actually ends up in the landfill. We don’t charge our customers anything for donating or recycling their items. This service is included in everything we do, including our dumpster rentals.

Heavy Lifting, Without Moving A Muscle

Why Junk King?

Why should Junk King be your estate cleanout specialists? Simple—we offer affordable, transparent pricing along with full-service junk removal in Houston North. We take anything as long as it isn’t hazardous. This includes garbage, of course, but we also take old appliances, furniture, yard waste, construction debris, hot tubs, mattresses, electronic waste, and much more. If it doesn’t contain hazardous materials, we’ll likely haul it away for you. If it does, we can usually point you towards a disposal service that handles those types of materials.

When you search for “junk removal near me” you may find that many seem like they’re affordable, but once you get into the cost, you find a number of hidden fees and other charges. With Junk King, there’s never a question of how much does an estate cleanout cost. You’ll know upfront.

With a project as large as cleaning out a home, we will typically need to come in person to put together an estimate. If you only have a few things, we may be able to give an accurate quote over the phone or via text. However, if you have a good amount of items for us to haul away, we’ll need to see what you’ve got. When we do an in-person estimate, we bring our full crew and truck whenever possible. This means we can get to work as soon as you approve the quote. Often, we’ll have everything taken care of within a few hours or an afternoon.

Business owners, especially small business owners, need to be prepared to deal with disasters. Whether it’s a flood, a hurricane, or a data breach, disasters cost you money and damage your reputation. The longer it takes to get back up and running, the more profits you’re going to lose.

There are a lot of ways to prepare for disasters. Many companies create disaster recovery plans that outline how to react to different disasters, including who is in charge of what aspect of recovery. However, having one of these plans in place isn’t the only thing you can do. In fact, some regular tasks that seem to have nothing to do with disaster recovery can help you be ready. One such task is spring cleaning. Annual spring cleaning can help you prepare for disasters and disaster recovery in a few different ways.

You Have Less Junk to Deal With

When a natural disaster hits your office, warehouse, or other physical location, you’re going to have a giant mess to deal with. The more stuff you have, the more you’ll have to sort through. Storm damage cleanup is going to take days or even weeks, and that time will only be extended if you have a large amount of stuff to go through. If you regularly sort out the stuff you don’t need and have it picked up by a junk hauling service like Junk King, you’ll have less to deal with. We deal with furniture removal and much more at any time of the year.

Some businesses end up with a basement, back room, or other space that becomes a catch-all for old furniture, product, and other items that you aren’t using. You may put away a few of these items with the intention of using them later or saving them for a time of need. However, if you’ve had desks, chairs, and other items in this space for over a year, chances are you don’t really need them any longer. Why keep them? They’re just taking up space that you could actually make use of. During disaster clean up, you’ll likely just toss these things anyway, even if they did survive.

Getting rid of them now means that they don’t necessarily end up in the garbage. Instead, if you have furniture that’s in good shape, it can be donated. You can send these old items to a new home where someone will get some use out of them.

New call-to-action

Spring Cleaning Improves Disaster Recovery Efforts

Going through your office, store, or other space once a year and getting rid of old things you don’t need can actually help you avoid some disasters. For example, while you’re pulling out boxes full of stuff you don’t need, you might notice some of them have water damage. If you know the boxes didn’t have signs of this before, it likely means you have a leak somewhere. You can get a professional in to do some investigating and find out what needs to be repaired or replaced. While you won’t be able to avoid all disasters this way, you can save yourself from dealing with a flooded basement.

Finding sources of moisture in your workspace can also lead to discovering black mold. This is a completely different type of disaster that can do more than just damage your office and your inventory. It can cause severe health problems for your employees and your customers. If you’ve found black mold, you’ll have to shut down while the entire space is remediated. In addition to losing that time, you may also get a reputation as having a dirty office. Customers may no longer want to visit your office or shop in your store. If you’re in the restaurant business, this can be especially crippling since you may also incur health department fines. This is one of those spring cleaning tips that can actually save you a lot of money.

In fact, by doing some in-depth spring cleaning, you may be able to improve the working conditions for your employees. You may not have any mold to deal with, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t dust all around your office or workspace. Moving furniture to vacuum or sweep under it once a year is going to reveal a lot of this dust. You may also find a good amount of dust in storage rooms as you take inventory of what’s in there. Getting this all out at once will help improve air quality.

You Can Get Organized

As part of your spring cleaning checklist, you should include organizing as well as sorting through old items. This can save you a great amount of time during a disaster because you’ll have an idea where everything was. While some things may shift if you’re dealing with a tornado, hurricane, or earthquake, you’ll have at least a general idea of where things should be. You’ll know your products were in one space, your files in another, and so on. You’ll be able to focus on recovering the most important things first.

This is also a good time to sort out your vital documents and create backups of them. Scan these documents and save them to a cloud so you have a digital version you can access from anywhere. You may want to invest in a fire-proof safe for the originals. During your spring cleaning, you can go through those documents to ensure that you still need them and to update them as necessary. You can also look at what new paperwork you have from the past year to determine if any of it should be added to the safe. Keep a list of what documents you have in the safe in your disaster recovery plan, which should be available in the cloud so it’s available outside of your physical office.

Put Items in a Safe Location

While you’re spring cleaning, you may find some junk to get rid of, but you may also find things that you do need to keep but aren’t in a good location. As you’re organizing, look for things that shouldn’t be on the floor or shouldn’t be on a high shelf. For example, if you have boxes of important papers but need to store them in the basement, you may want to put them on a shelf so they remain dry if the basement were to flood.

On the other hand, if you have fragile products, those likely need to go on lower shelves. This way, they may survive an earthquake since they won’t have as far to fall to the floor. Heavy items also need to be stored down low so they won’t fall off and hit someone. You may typically try to store items in a safe manner, but sometimes, you just don’t have the time to organize your shelves correctly. Spring cleaning is a great time to move things around so that the heavy and fragile items are on lower shelves. It will help keep them safe during a disaster while also protecting your employees.

How Should You Get Rid of Old Stuff?

Once you’ve completed your spring cleaning list, you may have a stack of stuff that you don’t want to keep. You could search for junk removal near me, but you may not necessarily find a quality junk hauling service that way. Instead, reach out to Junk King. We handle junk removal in North Houston and the surrounding areas plus so much more. We will haul off just about anything as long as it doesn’t contain hazardous materials.

Why Junk King of North Houston?

There are several reasons why you should choose junk king for your garbage, old furniture, and appliance removal. In addition to taking just about anything, including old hot tubs, yard waste, and DIY construction waste, we also make the process as simple as possible. You can call us to request an estimate, but we also offer online booking and even estimates via text. We can also come do estimates in person, which is often useful for our commercial clients who may have rooms full of old stuff to get rid of. Whenever possible, we will bring one of our large hauler trucks with us so we can get to work right away if you agree to the estimate.

All of our quotes are done for free, and there are no hidden costs or extra fees charged at the end. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for. There is no obligation to accept the quote.

We Donate and Recycle

If you have old office furniture or other items that are still in good shape, we will sort them out at our warehouse and donate them to one of our local charities or other organizations that help those in need. This is one of the best reasons to do spring cleaning instead of waiting for a disaster. You’re not likely to find much intact during hurricane debris cleanup. By cleaning out these old items now, you give them a second life. If we can’t donate it, we will recycle it. In the end, only a small amount of what we collect actually ends up in the dump.

Junk King North Houston Commercial Dumpster Rental Office Relocation

Make the Most of Your Commercial Dumpster Rental

There are many reasons why your business may need to rent a dumpster. When you do need to get rid of a lot of junk quickly, it’s often the best option. However, you are also likely very aware of your budget as a business owner. You’ll want to make the most of your commercial dumpster when you have it, so you don’t have to extend your rental period or do anything else that will cost you more. That’s why if you’re looking for a dumpster rental in Houston, you’ll want to talk to Junk King. Here are a few ways you can get the most out of your dumpster and why Junk King should be your go-to partner for dumpsters and other junk removal needs.

Need additional information? Learn more about our dumpster rental services.

Do You Need a Commercial Dumpster?

The first step in getting the most out of your dumpster is to make certain that you need one. Most businesses will have arranged some form of weekly bulk garbage pick-up. However, there may be times when you need to throw away a lot more than what that dumpster will hold. When that’s the case, it’s time to rent a commercial dumpster. Here are a few of the instances when you may need to look into dumpster rental.

You’re Starting a New Business

When you start a new business, you likely don’t have any garbage collection contracts in place. This means you don’t have any dumpster on-site, so renting a commercial dumpster is really your only option. Depending on the condition of the office space you’ve purchased or are renting, you may need to do some major renovations. There may be some junk to get rid of, and you may need to have some walls taken down or put up. All of this generates debris that you have to get rid of, and a commercial dumpster is the easiest solution for that. You can put the debris straight into the dumpster instead of piling it up somewhere.

You’re Moving to a New Location

Similarly, when moving to a new location, you may not have your weekly trash collection service set up at the new office. However, you may need to clean out or remodel the space to make it work for your needs. Bringing in a junk removal service or hiring a commercial dumpster is often the best option. Hiring Junk King to haul away the stuff you don’t need works well if all you’re doing is a clean-out. We will come pick up those left-behind desks, old shelving units, or whatever else you have.

However, if you’re doing a remodel, you may want a dumpster. This way, you have a space to throw the old cabinets, doors, flooring, and other debris, and it doesn’t have to pile up somewhere. Whether you need us to haul junk away or decide a dumpster is the way to go, be sure to include some plan for getting rid of trash and debris when planning your commercial renovation.

You’re Doing a Major Remodel

If you’re remodeling, you may already have garbage service at your location. However, a major remodel will likely create more debris than your standard trash service can take in a week. You will likely need to get an additional dumpster just to hold all of the trash the remodel generates. You may also be getting rid of old desks, shelves, and other items. You’ll need a large commercial dumpster to hold all of that. You may need a dumpster even if you’re doing a major clean-out. Even if you’re not moving walls, you may find that you have so much old junk that you need a dumpster or a junk removal company to handle it all.

Rent Your Junk King MINI Today

What’s the Right Dumpster Size?

Now that you’ve decided you need a dumpster, it’s time to figure out what size you need. Some commercial dumpsters are huge. These dumpsters may seem like the perfect option, but you may find that they have a few drawbacks. First, they may actually be too big. You don’t get a good return on your dumpster rental if you only use a small amount of its space. Before renting your dumpster, take a good look at how much trash and debris you will have. You may realize that you don’t need the largest one out of the different dumpster sizes available. Your contractor can help estimate how much debris will come from the remodel itself. Then consider what else you’re getting rid of.

Second, where are you going to put your dumpster? A large dumpster is very heavy even when it’s empty, and it can easily make deep impressions in the yard or even crack a driveway as it fills up. Be sure you take this into consideration. You don’t want to damage your parking lot or landscaping with a huge dumpster, especially if a smaller option will work just as well.

Know What You Can Dispose of

What can you put in your dumpster? If you don’t know, you run the risk of additional fees being added to your cost. Here at Junk King, we can take just about anything, but we cannot handle anything hazardous. If you put hazardous waste in a dumpster, it can harm our crews and could potentially damage the dumpster itself. For anything that we can’t take, you’ll need to contact a hazardous waste disposal service.

Heavy Lifting, Without Moving A Muscle

Here are some of the things you can place in our commercial dumpsters:

Furniture, including desks, shelves, chairs, and tables.
Appliances, including refrigerators and microwaves.
Electronic waste such as computers, televisions, and cell phones.
Construction waste from remodeling projects.
–  Garbage and trash.

Our junk removal team can take anything you can put in one of our dumpsters. If you ever have any questions about what we can take, just ask.

Keep Your Budget in Mind

Budgeting is vital if you want to keep your business in the black. Even budgeting for trash is vital to getting the best return on your investment. While renting a dumpster for a remodel or clean-out is something you’ll only do every now and then, you still need to budget for it. You want to make certain you find an affordable dumpster rental service, especially if you’re already spending a lot of money to remodel your office, warehouse, or other commercial space. It may be a small line item, but it’s still important that you shop around.

This is where Junk King’s unique pricing structure works in your favor. Instead of paying a flat fee for the dumpster, we charge by how much you use. Our cost is based on a few factors—first, the length of time. You can rent our dumpsters for three, five, or seven days. Next, we have a minimum cost. This is the least amount you’ll pay. If you only use a little bit of the dumpster, you’ll be charged this amount.

What if you fill the entire dumpster? Then you’ll pay the full cost. There’s also a rate for filling the dumpster about halfway, which is about 30% off the cost of a full dumpster. There are no other charges or fees added to the cost. You’ll pay based on how long you have the dumpster and how full it is at the end. That’s it. This means if you’re just cleaning out your retail location, you may find that you don’t use half of the space. Why pay for space you don’t use? We don’t think you should, so we make use of our unique tier system to help you save money.
