The 1970’s and early 1980’s lead to a decline and collapse of the steel industry in Pittsburgh. Manufactures of steel overseas offered newer technologies, lower labor costs and government-corporate partnerships which all made for a lower demand for Pittsburgh’s highest commodity. The recession of the ‘80’s made for a difficult time in Pittsburgh but the city proved its position as a come-back-kid and sought new ways for economic growth and recovery.
