Palm Beach Hotel Clean Out – Fit For Kings, Cleaned By Kings

Every day brings a new adventure at Junk King. Our itineray today included a trip to the Palm Beach Hotel.

According to its website, this historic hotel was “designed by eminent New York architect, Mortimer Dickinson Metcalfe, and built by Thomas A. Clarke.”  The hotel was completed in 1925 and is Spanish Baroque style at its finest.  The first Palm Beach hotel guests arrived iin 1926!  It becamse a place for the wealthy and the elite- a place fit for royalty.  So naturally it made sense then that if anyone was going to clear some junk from this place it should be the junk “Kings.”  🙂

New Year, New Goals

The new year brings hope, fresh starts and resolutions.  I read yesterday that the second most popular resolution in 2014 (according to a study at the University of Scranton) was to get organized.  So many of us are incredibly busy in our day-to-day lives that it’s easy for things to accumulate.  We all have the best intentions but sometimes life gets crazy and the next thing you know, your garage is filled with junk.  The first step to organization is removing clutter and unneccessary junk.

Why Not Just Donate?

Often when we talk to homeowners or Realtors after a house cleanout we have a common exchange.  In an effort to clear out a home, the homeowners had hoped to donate their clutter that had accumulated over the years.  While we can appreciate the sentiment behind this (we donate too), the fact remains that many large donation groups are highly selective about what they can take.

 

 
Many charitable operations will NOT take the following:

  • Large appliances – stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, TVs or console stereos
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Auto parts – tires, batteries
  • Venetian blinds, curtain rods, Window Treatments
  • Furniture with slight tears
  • Hot Tubs
  • Swingsets
  • Magazines
  • Wire hangers
  • Building materials
 
In contrast, Junk King WILL take just about anything besides hazardous waste.  We, too, believe in donations and we work with several local organizations.  We will sort through your “junk” for you and anything we think can be repurposed we will salvage.
 
What does this mean for you?  Well, rather than sorting through piles of clutter and making multiple trips or phone calls, we will do it all in one shot.  We will do the heavy lifting and sorting for you.  Cleaning out a home is stressful enough without having to pick through junk with a fine-toothed comb.  When you hire us, you pay by the truckload and not by our time.  And when we say “truckload” we are not talking about a pick up truck.  Our trucks can fit about 6 times the load of a standard pickup truck.

Junk King And Spring Cleaning

spring cleaningAs of 12:57 yesterday afternoon, it is officially spring!  With springtime comes a feeling of freshness and new beginnings.  Birds chirp, flowers blossom and homes get cleaned (or do they?).

I read an interesting blog yesterday by Gregory Demetriou on the Huffington Post about spring cleaning.  The author talked about how his office could use an overhaul–too much clutter and items accumulated over the years were affecting his work space and likely his mental well being.  He also talked about having the best intentions but year after year, the space never got cleaned. He says,” I’ve threatened to correct the sad situation many times and then, of course, I sit down, and my resolve leaves as quickly as the air from the seat cushion.”

Selling Your Home In Southern Florida

Are you getting ready to sell your home?  According to Kimberly Miller at the Palm Beach Post, real estate prices in Palm Beach are on the rise again.  In a January article titled, “Boom, Bust and Boom Again, “ she notes:

Zillow economists said 2014 will see Palm Beach County’s median home values gain another 5.8 percent, ranging from 4 percent in Boynton Beach to nearly 7 percent in West Palm Beach.

Others are even more optimistic.  South Florida housing expert and consultant Jack McCabe predicts Palm Beach County’s median sales price for a single-family home will jump 8 percent in the coming year.

This is good news for those of us hoping to sell our home this year.  Part of the selling process is getting our residence ready for market.  For many of us, our home is our biggest investment.  It makes sense, then, to take all the necessary steps to make our home more desirable to prospective buyers!

Palm Beach home stager, Michele Greene, says, “Clean is the single most important thing you can do to stage.”  On her blog she adds, “Looking at a well maintained home lets the potential buyers know that this home is taken care of and will stand out among all the others.”
