The city of Phoenix is hoping to make a big change in how it gets rid of all its trash. Right now the city is managing to divert around 16% of all the trash away from area landfills. By 2020 they want that number to jump to at least 40%. To get there the Public Works Department is going to put into place a Pay-As-You-Throw plan. The idea is to charge folks less for a smaller 60-gallon trash container as opposed to the average 90-gallon bins. The hope is that it will encourage folks to do more recycling.
