Richmond VA Basement Junk Removal

basementAlong the Virginia coast sea levels are rising. The result is that even the mildest of rainstorms can turn into serious trouble for homeowners and business in the “danger zone.”

“At times I think we get too locked in on the strongest storms, the Category 3, 4 and 5s,” said Marshall Shepherd, a University of Georgia atmospheric scientist. “But if you look at the last five or 10 years, even the weaker storms can create a lot more damage.”

The scientists who study these kinds of things have found that in the past, the sea level rose about a foot every hundred years. Now it appears those levels are in track to rise two feet every hundred of years. That might not seem like a lot when you spread out a “foot” over that length of time but it really only takes a couple of inches of flooding to ruin your basement. If you should find yourself on the receiving end of floodwaters, know that you won’t be alone when it comes time for the cleanup. Junk King of Richmond will be standing by to lend a hand.

By “lend a hand” we actually mean two professional junk haulers and a big truck. In other words, you can get rid of any damaged carpet, furniture, wood or other items in a single pickup appointment from Junk King. As anyone who has suffered from storm damage knows, getting wet objects out of the home has to happen fast. There might be a few things that can be dried but for all the rest it has to go before the mold sets in. It might be a shame to toss out all that those damaged object but you’ll just have to blame it on the rain.

On the other hand, you don’t have to wait for a storm to put Junk King Central VA to work for you. They are working hard all year round helping Richmond residents clear out the clutter of their homes. When you’ve decided you’re ready to get rid of all those oversize junk items then Junk King is really the only call you should be making. That JK crew will be doing all the heavy lifting and that includes sofas, stoves, patio furniture or refrigerators. If you need it gone, Junk King will take it away! Give them a call today to help clean up your home and keep their number programmed in your phone just in case!

Richmond Virginia Yard & Landscaping Cleanup

If you stare out into your backyard and wonder “What went wrong with my garden?” it might be time for a little inspiration. The Garden Club of Virginia is putting on their 80th annual Historic Garden Walk. All cross the state there will be up 32 separate tours that will take visitors through nearly 250 homes and gardens. Here in Richmond the neighborhoods for the walk will be Chatham Hills and Windsor on the James, Laburnum Park; and Windsor Farms and Rothesay Circle and Loch Lomond.

Even if you don’t get a chance to take the tour, you could drop over to your closest Home Depot or other nursery to see what’s in bloom. That might be enough to fire up your passion for gardening. Whether you’re going for flowers, produce or a combination of both you’re going to want to start with a clean backyard. That’s where Junk King of Central VA can be a big help.

Although “junk” might be in their company name, Junk King Central VA is happy to haul away whatever you’re throwing out. That could mean piles of sod, mounds of dirt, construction & concrete debris, a hot tub, a swing set, planters, a BBQ grill or patio furniture. Pretty much anything that is taking up space in your yard that you want to toss out can end up on the back of the Junk King truck. Even fallen tree limbs from the last storm can be loaded up and taken away.

The Junk King crew can live up to their name by also helping you clear out the clutter from your garage, basement, attic or closets. Yes, some of what you’re throwing out might have a “history” but that doesn’t mean it is of any value. Do you really need a ping-pong table that nobody plays with? Do you need a mattress that no one will ever sleep on again? Do you need a sofa without any spring?

Getting rid of big stuff will let you take back the storage space in your home. Your garage can become a arts and crafts area or you could even start parking your car in there again! The basement can be upgraded to become a high-end screening room for the whole family to enjoy.

As for the closets, it should be out with the old and in with the new. The general rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used something in six months get rid of it. That could mean a full Junk King truck and that won’t be a problem, because you’ll be clutter free for once!

Richmond Debris Removal

The Clean City Commission of Richmond has put together a program which allows community groups to get together and clean-up their neighborhoods. This is a terrific idea for those neighborhoods which have a strong volunteer spirit among the residents. Keep in mind that you don’t have to live in a neighborhood to clean it up. However, there are some guidelines that you’ll need to follow if you’re going to organize such a project. Here are the rules put forth by the Clean City Commission:

“All brush must be cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled for easy pick up by volunteers. A list of addresses where appliances or tires need to be picked up must be submitted by Thursday before your clean-up. The Department of Public Works will provide one truck and driver. A minimum clean-up area of six blocks is recommended. Clean-up hours begin at 8:00 a.m. and end by 11:30 a.m. Clean-ups are not scheduled the Saturday before or following a legal city holiday. Scheduled clean-ups are held rain or shine. If volunteers are not at the designated location at the scheduled start time, the clean-up trucks will be forfeited and there will be a fee of $30.00 per hour for each employee who was on duty waiting. Unacceptable pickup items include: Containers or items weighing more than 50 lbs or building materials.”

There are few things that need to be “unpacked” with those guidelines. While it is nice that the city will provide “one truck and one driver” that doesn’t mean that driver is going to be helping with the cleanup. In other words, you’ll have to load the truck yourself. The clean-up hours are meant to keep things regulated and not disturb your neighbors on the weekend but that rigid timeframe might not always be convenient for your busy schedule. Then there is the issue of weight limits. Suppose you want to get rid of something like an old stove or refrigerator? Even a sofa could weight more than 50 pounds. According to the most recent information on the city’s website there are no scheduled clean-up projects.

If you’re looking to engage in your own clean-up project you don’t have to organize a committee and group of volunteers. All you have to do is contact Junk King Richmond. These are the junk removal specialists who can help you clean up your home and yards on your schedule. You’ll be getting a truck with Junk King but you’ll also be getting a two-man crew who will do all the work. That means any lifting and loading will be done by the JK team. Just tell them what you want removed and they’ll take it from there. As for the cost, you’ll only be charged by the amount of space your junk takes up on the truck. There will be no surprise charges! Don’t wait for your neighborhood to get its act together; get clean with Junk King Richmond today.

Richmond Post Storm Cleanup

It takes a lot to bring a city like New York to a screeching halt. Hurricane Sandy just did that in a big way. After slamming the east coast, it took direct aim at the Big Apple resulting in black-outs that left millions of citizens in the dark. Just as many New Yorkers also found themselves stranded in their homes without any way to get to work because the subways were flooded. Amazingly most of those mass transit lines were up and running by the end of the week.

Here in Richmond, Sandy did plenty of damage. There were also power outages that put 140,000 folks in the dark. Ironically, it’s not so much the power of the storm itself that causes the blackouts but the rain. When the ground around heavy trees become soaked those trees topple over and pull down power lines with them. Suddenly, what was once an idyllic piece of scenery has been turned into a major hazard. This could have you rethinking all of those trees around your own home. Is it worth the risk that a tall tree could come crashing down on your property? Maybe it’s time to think about trimming back those trees.

The other remains from Sandy was all the flooding. Once the waters receded the cleanup began in earnest. Outside, those waters deposited a lot of debris that didn’t always float off with the water. If it’s on your property then it’s your responsibility to clear it away. If you were one of the unfortunate homeowners that suffered flooding indoors then you will most likely be dragging a lot of items out of your home. Sadly, all of that stuff is now junk. Some things can be salvaged but unless it is thoroughly dried off, it’s too great a risk of mold growing to hang onto something. All along the storm route, you can see folks piling mounds of furniture, carpet and boxes of soggy trash on their lawns and driveways. Instead of waiting for the overburdened city to pick it up you’d better off hiring Junk King Richmond to swoop in and clear that junk off your lawn once and for all.

Even if you don’t pile up your stuff, you can still hire the Junk King crew to help with the clean up. If they have to, they’ll go down into the basement to pull out the junk you want tossed out. Don’t worry; you won’t be paying this crew by the hour. Instead, you’ll be paying by the amount of space your junk will take up on their truck. And don’t worry about getting dirty; the Junk King Central VA crew will be doing all the work. Let’s hope we never see another Hurricane Sandy but if we do, Junk King will be standing by to help with the cleanup.
