Recycling News in Sacramento

You might not think that being out in nature requires an eco-friendly recycling program but no area in Sacramento should be exempt from going green. As part of their successful “Plastics. Too Valuable to Waste. Recycle” campaign, the America’s plastic makers who make up the American Chemistry Council (ACC) recently announced a partnership with the American River Natural History Association. As part of this new eco-friendly team, visitors to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center with now have an abundance of recycling options in the form of six recycling bins now situated throughout the park. With this effort, the American River Parkway in Sacramento will be that much brighter and cleaner.

“The nature center welcomes about 100,000 guests a year, the majority of whom are families and school children,” said Paul Tebbel, executive director of the center. “It’s not only important for us to educate our young visitors about the value of recycling, we also need to give them the opportunity to become the next generation of recyclers by providing recycling bins in our center.”

All together the “Plastics. Too Valuable to Waste. Recycle” has provided over 700 “permanent and seasonal bins across California in an effort to grow awareness for away-from-home recycling and increase recycling collection.”

This is not the only organization in Sacramento that can claim to embrace eco-friendly business practices. Junk King Sacramento has always been focused on going green and staying green. They accomplish this mission by diverting the majority of all its picked up junk items to the proper recycling centers located around the Sacramento area.

You don’t automatically think of bulky junk items as something you can recycle but if an item is made from a material such as wood, metal, foam, cloth or plastic that material can be melted down and turn into a batch of gooey raw material. That raw material can then be poured into any mold and reshaped into a new purpose. That is how recycling works: converting trash into something new.

Your big items can be just as effective recyclable materials as a soda cans or stacks of paper. The choice you have to make is whether or not you’re going to “activate” that material by hiring Junk King to haul it away. Sure, you can hang onto your old love seat or refrigerator but why would you? The reason you shoved something like that into a garage or down a basement is because you’re done with it. If you are truly done, then why not get it out of your home once and for all with the Junk King’s help? Nothing is too heavy or too cumbersome for the Junk King Sacramento crew to handle. They’re only happy if they can fill up their empty trucks every day. All you have to do is call them up and they’ll handle the rest.

Sacramento E-Waste & Computer Recycling

The Sacramento Bee recently put forth the “top seven ways to be less trashy.” The purpose of this article is to provide readers and local residents with helpful hints that will ultimately help avoid filling up the landfills around Sacramento. The less trash in landfills the better for the environment. Here are some of the hints that the Sacramento bee suggests.
First of all, they remind residents to recycle their paperboard. This is the thin cardboard packaging that is found in most of the items that we buy at the grocery store such as cereal boxes, tissue boxes and any other boxed item. Most of Sacramento’s curbside recycling programs accepts paperboard with the exception of pizza boxes. The reason is that pizza boxes are often greasy and not good for recycling purposes.
Along with paperboard is actual paper which is all the junk mail, magazines, newspapers and other paper items that comes through our hands nearly every day. The Sacramento Bee reminds readers that as long as the paper is free of food waste it can be recycled.
There is also a recommendation to reuse any disposable item as often as possible. Perhaps an old jar of baby food can become a storage container for loose screws or buttons. You could also convert the holiday cards you see this year into gift tags for next year’s presence. The bottom line is that any chance you get to stop an item from being thrown out is going to be a benefit.
Then there is the issue of electronic waste. That would be all the things you plug into the wall. This is becoming a huge issue not only for Sacramento but for the rest of the planet as e-waste is quickly becoming the fastest growing disposable problem for our planet. It’s great that we have access to so much technology to improve the quality of our lives. However, for every new gadget that comes our way we are tossing out those old gadgets. All of those computers, monitors, printers, fax machines and televisions contain heavy metals that when released into the atmosphere could become harmful. Those toxins are released the moment an item is crushed. That’s why it’s recommended never to throw out electronic waste in the garbage because it’s going to be crushed!
To help local residents get rid of their e-waste there are several drop-off sites throughout Sacramento. These might seem convenient if you happen to be driving in the neighborhood with an old computer in your backseat. The alternative is hiring Junk King Sacramento to handle all your e-waste and computer disposal. Junk King specializes in the removal of all kinds of junk, not just e-waste. Because they are a local company they also care about the environment around Sacramento. That’s why they make great strides in becoming as eco-friendly as possible with regard to junk removal.
Junk King Sacramento will come directly to your home when it is convenient for you and cart away any item you want to be disposed of. This will include all your old computers and monitors but also bulky items like unwanted furniture, old mattresses, kitchen appliances and anything else you might have boxed up and ready to be tossed out. Sacramento Recycling – Get Rid of E-Waste

So how did you spend e-waste collection month? Surely, you knew that March was e-waste collection month in Sacramento. It seems as though the entire city banded together to clear up the clutter of e-waste. Home Depot stores took in your old batteries. Many Whole Foods markets scheduled e-waste drop off days. Certainly all of those special recycling centers run by the city were open for business (and they still are!). If you cleared out your home or apartment of all your e-waste clutter, then good on ya! If not, you don’t have to wait until next year to properly dispose of that e-waste or any other recyclable materials.
It’s easy to figure out what is e-waste especially when you consider the “e” stands for electronic. That would mean anything you plug in would count. Computers, monitors, televisions, answering machines, fax machines, copiers; they would all be on the list. You might be surprised to know that those new energy-saving light bulbs that look like pig tails are also considered e-waste. Some of them contain mercury and shouldn’t be tossed out in the garbage. Once those bulbs break that mercury can be released and that’s not going to be good for anyone.
Speaking of hazardous waste, beyond all the electronics that should be recycled there’s a whole range of other products that shouldn’t be poured down the drain or tossed out with other garbage. The North Area Recovery Station is set up to not only take in your household hazardous waste, but also to repurpose it for reuse. Right now Sacramento residents manage to divert over 10,000 pounds of these kinds of material every month. The most popular reuse is paint. Remnants of paint cans are mixed together to create fresh, perfectly usable paint at a low cost.
Sacramento residents have always been on the frontline of recycling. That’s why the city has such a low overall carbon footprint. Beyond e-waste collection month, everyone gets into the act by recycling their papers and plastics. And thanks to those many municipal recycling centers, it’s easier for folks to drop off those bigger piles of recyclables that can’t fit into their weekly pickup trashcan. Are you taking advantage of those centers? It would be understandable if you don’t always have time to haul your recyclables off to them.
Most weekends are chock full of events like the kids’ soccer games, spending the day at the Sacramento zoo or taking visitors on a tour of Old Sacramento. Do you really have the time to dedicate for a recycle center run? That might be the reason why some of your junk has begun to pile up. Don’t feel guilty. Instead make a call to a local Sacramento junk recycling company like Junk King and arrange for a pickup.  Schedule an on site estimate by calling 1-888-888-JUNK or booking online.

Sacramento Recycling

There is a reason why Sacramento has such a reputation as a beautiful city. It’s because the residents take pride in their surroundings. A function of that pride has been one of the most comprehensive recycling programs across the country. In fact, many other city managers from around the county come to Sacramento to see how they pull off these programs.

It all starts with recognizing how fragile our environment is and that most of the problems are related to the garbage we throw away. When we can recycle, repurpose and reuse that refuse then we’re cutting back on the toxins being released into the atmosphere and reducing our dependence of carbon burning energy. That’s a pretty tall order, but luckily for the folks living in Sacramento they’ve got recycling down to an art form.  Here’s some of the recycling processes done in California’s capital:

Curbside Recycling

The most popular and oft used Sacramento recycling program is the curbside recycle bin pick up. Once you get into the habit of separating your garbage, recycling is a breeze. The list of what should go into a curbside recycling bin is easy to remember. Start with anything paper. That means newspapers, magazines, cardboard, food containers and of course all that junk mail. Finally, the junk mail can be put to good use! Next comes all the metals with aluminum soda cans, tin cans like tuna and pet food, and empty aerosol cans. You can also toss in wine bottles and other glass bottles as well as rigid plastic bottles like milk jugs or water bottles.

What you shouldn’t put into your curbside recycling bin are any hazardous products, motor oil, wet food, Styrofoam, wood, metal pipes, diapers, clothes or garden waste. That’s for other recycling drop-offs. The recycling bins are collected every other week on your normal garbage pick-up day. Just put the full bin next to your other bins and away it will go!

Garden Recycling

The city of Sacramento provides for scheduled pick-ups of your garden refuse. This means raked piles of leaves, chopped up tree limbs and even the Christmas tree. As long as the pile isn’t bigger than two cubic yards (which is about the size of 3’ x 3’ x 6’) then it will be good to go. Just remember to make it only garden stuff. If there is other garbage in the pile like chunks of concrete or dog poo it won’t be picked up.

*If its a larger load – give Junk King a call to come and take it away for you (dog poo and all!).

Hazardous Waste Recycling

If you can’t break it up, can’t ingest it or it isn’t made of paper chances are it is hazardous waste. Into this category you can add all kinds of batteries, electronic gear, paints, solvents, cleaners, or pesticides. Pretty much anything that comes with a warning label should be considered hazardous material. There are specified recycling centers where you can either drop off these items or have a professional team pick them up and drop them off for you. These centers are spread out all over the Sacramento area. You might even find some repurposed products at these centers like cheap latex paint or refurbished computers.

The bottom line is that keeping Sacramento clean has never been easier and the city is a model of recycling programs across the US.

Junk King Sacramento has made a commitment to help keep Sacramento environmentally friendly by recycling over 60% of all the junk we haul away.  Give us a call at 1-888-888-JUNK or a book a free on site estimate online.

Sacramento Junk Recycling

There’s a great saying about Californians that proudly proclaims “so goes California, so goes the rest of the nation.” That basically means that California is a leader when it comes to important social movements. Nowhere has this been more evident then with the desire to create a more eco-friendly environment. Nowadays, everybody is going green and Sacramento is certainly leading the charge.

Folks are pitching in all across the city with their own personal home and office recycling programs involving plastics and papers. They’re bringing canvas bags to grocery stores and cutting back on the driving. All of these are positive steps towards achieving a smaller carbon footprint and they’re simple to pull off. But there might be some “big ticket” items socked around your home that also need the “green touch” of recycling. However, these items might be too big for you to manage or even move from where they’re stuck right now. That’s where a Sacramento Junk Recycling service can come into play.  With one quick phone call, you can set up an appointment to rid your home of that junk once and for all. Plus you’ll get the added bonus of knowing that junk is going to be recycled.

Informing the citizens of Sacramento about living green is the proverbial “preaching to the choir;” they are down with the program! However, that doesn’t mean everyone who wants to go green can haul away that busted fridge sitting in the garage or that moldy mattress in the basement. And don’t forget the obsolete electronics. These items just can’t be taken out with the rest of the garbage. To help reduce your impact on the environment these items should be recycled. You have a clear choice: load up your car and make about a dozen trips all around Sacramento to the various recycling centers or make one call to a green junk hauling service and let them do all the work.

Part of recycling is safely breaking down the components of any item and finding a way to reuse it. That’s easy to see with paper and plastic. You just chop it up or melt it down and it’s good to go. But you big junk items need to carefully be broken apart.   Don’t take the risk. Let a professional green junk hauling service sweep in and get rid of all that junk.

There’s a great benefit for the environment when you use a Sacramento Junk Recycling service to clear out your refuse. But there is an equally great benefit for you. Imagine the extra storage space you can create for the really important items you want to keep safe. For some “hoarder” types, there can even be the discovery of an entire new room that can be converted into an office, playroom or guest room.  Sacramento green junk hauling: Good for you and good for the planet!

Junk King Sacramento is the best in green junk hauling.  We pride ourselves in recycling up to 60% of the materials we haul.  If you’d like to get rid of your home or business junk in an eco-friendly way, feel free to book online or call 1-800-995-JUNK to schedule a free on site estimate.
