Robots might be coming to Utah a lot sooner than you thought. A bill that would modify Utah traffic code was introduced by Rep. Stewart Barlow of Fruit Heights. That bill will permit automated personal delivery robots to roam sidewalks. “Today, we’d like to present a bill that deals with an upcoming technology and industry,” Rep. Barlow, told the House Transportation Committee. To support the bill, Barlow arranged for a personal delivery device to roll into the committee room. The intent is to use the robots for deliveries within a 3-mile radius of it’s departure point. They will mainly operate on the sidewalk. The demonstration proved successful because the bill was advanced unanimously. It now heads to the full House for further debate.
