There are few things in life that are more personal, more valuable, and more difficult to get rid of than a mattress.

- • Wood: Can be chipped for mulch or burned for fuel.
There are currently no federal laws that require the recycling of mattresses. And, while almost no states require mattress recycling either, the Mattress Recycling Council succeeded in promoting the passage of laws in California, Connecticut, and Rhode Island that allows retailers to collect a disposal fee on all new mattress and box spring sales.
In addition, up-to-date information from Bye Bye Mattress, a program of the Mattress Recycling Council, is available to assist consumers in recycling their old mattresses.
