It's Not Too Early To Prep For Your Spring Cleaning Projects
[This article was originally published in February 2018 and has been updated and revised.]
In some places the snow and rain is still coming down. But, for many others, the weather is already changing and it's time to plan for spring cleaning projects.
Of course, regardless of the weather or temperatures, cleaning up can mean having piles of junk and debris to get rid of afterwards. So, what do you do with that in winter?
Winter is Still Here, But Spring is Around the Corner
Okay, so it is still a month away. And, for the record, spring officially begins on Monday, March 20th this year. But late winter is often a great time for sprucing up your home and outdoor spaces in preparation for some large-scale spring cleaning later on.
And it's even a great time to clean up and organize your home office or place of business. Of course, these tasks often result in having some junk hauling that you'll need to take care of, as well.
For example, maybe you have some old lawn furniture that is far past its useful life and needs to be replaced. Or maybe there's old landscaping equipment or other items that are just taking up space and should be gotten rid of. And, of course, there will be the inevitable trimmings, leaves and other organic debris that must be hauled away.
And that's just from your outdoor areas. But what about your garage?
Most people in America with two or three car garages cannot even park one of their cars inside them. True story! We use our residential garage as an attached "storage unit" for toys, old clothes, and junk, but leave our high-priced vehicles out in the elements all year-round.
But tackling a garage cleanout is a great task for late winter or early spring. And getting that space cleared out and organized can be a game changer for the inside of your home, as well.
If you work from home - as many people do today - or you own a business, a late winter cleanup project could involve getting rid of old or broken down office furniture, file cabinets, electronics and computer equipment. Shops and offices are not much different from residential properties when it comes to accumulation of junk and unwanted items. So, an early season cleanup can be just the thing to start of your Q1 of 2023.
And, speaking of workplaces, if you maintain your own landscaping - assuming your business has any - this can also mean sprucing up the shrubbery, cleaning out drains and gutters, along with other cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Of course, this can also mean creating a few piles of organic waste and other landscaping debris. Granted, no one really likes the hauling and disposal side of landscape cleaning. On the upside, however, you can have an improved work area, boosted morale, and a reduction in clutter.
And all this means going into spring with a "clean slate" more of less.
After the Cleaning: Junk Removal Can Be an Unwanted Chore
One of the inevitable byproducts of serious cleanup efforts outdoors and in, is the accumulation of trash, debris, clutter, and plain, old junk.
Much of this can simply be disposed of in your commercial dumpster, if your business has access to one, or in the municipal trash bins that most homes and small businesses have. And, unless you've ended up with some massive and unwieldy piles of trash and rubbish, that part of the cleanup is relatively easy.
But what about all the junk? Especially the large stuff?
As a business owner, or a homeowner, you really have far more important things to take care of than junk hauling. And, while you might justify the time and effort involved by telling yourself that it's only a once-a-year project, have you really stopped to consider the disadvantages of hauling your own junk and trash?
There are many. Here’s just a few:
- The time involved with sorting, loading, hauling, and dumping
- Sustaining possible injuries or strained muscles and backs
- Possible costs for renting a truck (or having to borrow one)
- Additional costs for dump fees, fuel, and assorted disposal fees on items like TVs
- Figuring out what can be disposed or recycled and where to take it
And in many parts of the country this winter, the storms have been especially brutal. In addition to record snowfalls, flooding, and rolling blackouts, they've caused swaths of property damage and left huge tree branches, mud and other types of debris across yards and business properties.
So, for some, getting an early start on cleanup projects is not just a good idea - it's a real necessity.
In addition, in many other parts of the US, some homeowners are looking forward to starting new remodeling, gardening or landscaping projects before the temperatures start to increase. And this type of home improvement work will almost always generate piles of dirt and debris.
All of which simply means that somehow, someone is going to have to load, haul, and unload all that junk.
Your Cleanup Projects Can Produce a Lot of Junk
Once your projects get going, there will be an inevitable pile of junk, clutter and debris from your yard or business that you will to clean up and get rid of.
You certainly don't want to let that waste sit around as a potential hazard to your family, not to mention an eyesore. That’s why you have to decide how to haul away all the junk and debris. You don’t want the trash to continue to pile up.
As we noted previously, this is not something you might want to do yourself. In fact, there are good reasons why you shouldn't.
Perhaps you've thought about hiring a junk hauling business to take care of your yard waste. But large amounts of yard trimmings, foliage, and organic waste and debris might seem like an odd thing for a junk removal company to deal with.
Not at all! In fact, at Junk King, we remove almost all types of yard debris, including:
- Branches
- Clippings
- Stumps
- Soil and sod
- Other landscaping debris
We can't take anything that might be considered hazardous waste, but we can take care of all the rest.
And junk accumulation can take place in business offices or shops over time. Once the winter storms are gone and spring is around the corner, it’s time to throw open the shop windows and do some serious spring cleaning.
At home, even the most organized household can accumulate broken appliances over time, and piles of clothing that’s damaged or a little outdated.
The big question at the end of all your planning, then, is how are you going to get rid of your junk?
Junk Hauling Options That Are Better Than DIY
You can certainly “do it yourself” but, really, why would you want to? You could also hire that local guy with the beat-up truck. That might be a good deal - or it could turn out to be an unexpected liability issue. Having your friends, relatives or even employees might be an option, but the logistics and interpersonal stress make it a less-than-desirable choice, as well.
However, you can go the professional route and hire a specialty trash hauling firm. With a professional team on your side the job will be done quickly, efficiently, and completely. You won’t have to concern yourself with municipal dumping fees, possible fines, or waiting in line at the landfill.
Recycling and re-purposing of appropriate items will be taken care of for you, so you can have the satisfaction of being a “green citizen” but without working through the logistics of where to take which items, and so forth.
A competent and well-trained team, like the folks at Junk King, will ensure that every item that can and should be recycled is taken care of accordingly.
