Ready to re-model your kitchen? When my wife and I remodeled our kitchen about six years ago, the toughest thing seemed to be picking a kitchen counter. Actually, fairly early in the game, we decided on granite, but the color choices—oh, my! Nothing threw us so completely for a loop as the myriad of colors.

Even six years ago, it seemed the kitchen counter top choices were more limited. Formica, tile, granite and imitation granite-like materials was the norm. Now, materials like glass, wood, stainless steel, concrete, manufactured quartz, even marble give the homeowner more options than ever.

Okay, but speaking of options...there is only one option when it comes to removing remodeling debris—Junk King hauling and recycling. Why suffer a dumpster parked in your driveway, or for your contractor to get around to cleaning up that mess? Junk King is ready, willing, and able to take care of your debris when you're ready. Why wait?

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen. Believe it or not, man-made materials are not necessarily less expensive than real stone. Here's what to remember: when you pick up a slab of real stone you pay for the whole slab, not just the amount that you use. So, if you have 35 linear feet of counters, and the slab will fill 30 linear feet, you will need to purchase two slabs of stone. It is possible to purchase pre-cut stone for kitchen counters to save a buck. Also, the edge you have put onto your counter tops can cost you extra depending on how intricate they are. Usually the fabricators will give you several choices at the bottom of the price range that are perfectly fine. But, if you want chiseled, ogee bullnose, or triple pencil edges, be prepared to pay extra.

Finally, (or firstly,) give yourself plenty of time to make that choice of materials. Color is not the only option to consider. Ease of care is important. Don't use hard to maintain materials into your rental. It's probably not a good idea. But the cheapest material may not be the best choice either for home or rental. Formica can burn. Polished marble scratches. Tile is not particularly hygienic due to the grout lines--so choose well.

And remember, when it's time to get rid of all the junk from your remodeling project, call Junk King. We're fast, green, and we do all the work. You can count(er) on us.
