Need Furniture Removal? Finding The Right Team For The Job.

Need Furniture Removal? Finding The Right Team For The Job.

Furniture removal almost always involves moving large pieces of old furniture out of a building and onto a truck for disposal. And that takes hard work.

But the problem for many of us is that it's a type of hard work we're not set up to do ourselves. At least not safely nor easily. So, what do you do then?

Moving and Loading Old Furniture Shouldn't Be a DIY Chore

Does that mean you can't do it yourself?

Not really. In fact, if you're strong, healthy, and have access to a suitable vehicle like a pickup truck or a large cargo van - and you have some help - then, yes, you can do it yourself.

But, if you're a typical homeowner or renter, odds are you're not necessarily capable of hefting large sofas and vintage dining room tables by yourself. In fact, one of the sobering realities of life is that not all of us are built like Dwayne Johnson!

Either we're getting up there in years, as they say, or we have some physical limitations, or we are just simply not interested in doing that kind of work.

Add to all this the fact that not everyone owns or has access to a vehicle capable of carrying old furniture. A Camry, Prius, or Tesla just isn't going to cut it for hauling a seven-foot high, 200 pound china cabinet, for example. Not to mention your broken-down recliner chair.

But the fact remains that we often find ourselves with old or broken furniture that needs to be gotten rid of. It may be because we're moving, or downsizing, or simply replacing the old stuff with nice, new pieces.

So, what do you do in those instances?

Furniture Removal Could Mean Selling, Donating, or Even Recycling

One of the great things about our furniture is that much of it is still in usable condition even though we've made the decision to get rid of it. In other words, furniture removal doesn't have to mean "dumping it in a landfill."

In fact, you might find that the piece or pieces you want to offload are actually in good enough shape to sell. That could be through a good, old-fashioned yard sale or online through one of the myriad of shopping sites available today.

Or perhaps you'd rather "gift" them to someone in need of some good, gently-owned furniture?

Donating either to friends or family, or to a charitable organization can always be a real benefit to others while freeing yourself from having to dispose of the items yourself.

With these options and others in mind, we've put together this handy furniture removal checklist and guide to help navigate you through the process:

Why Furniture Removal Doesn't Have to Mean Furniture in a Landfill

Recycling and Reuse Matter

For most people, old furniture removal means dumping it somewhere.

And, for too many people, that simply means dumping it into a landfill. Unfortunately, while this is too often the case, it doesn't have to be.

In fact, depending on the type of furniture you're getting rid of and what kind of material it's made of, most furniture is recyclable. For example, furniture made of solid wood is almost 100 percent recyclable.

And any metal, glass, wood, and even most of the plastics that are part of furniture construction can be recycled or reused. Even some of the fabrics and foams are often reusable.

For those materials that cannot be feasibly recycled, they can usually be diverted to "waste-to-energy" facilities. These are waste disposal plants that burn waste products at incredibly high temperatures in specialized furnaces. This, in turn, generates steam that is used to power electric generators.

So, what does that mean for you and your furniture removal job?

The bottom line is that there is almost no piece that cannot be reused, repurposed, recycled, or regenerated as energy.
