Spring Cleaning, Junk Hauling And COVID-19

Spring Cleaning, Junk Hauling And COVID-19

By now, many people are starting to feel the strain of staying at home and the threat of COVID-19. The good news is that you can still do your spring cleaning and call for junk hauling service.

With all the new rules and prevention practices in place, it's easy to forget that, yes, you can still engage in most everyday activities - especially those around the house. And that includes spring cleaning.

Staying at home can be nice, especially if you're one of those folks who are constantly on the go, working, shopping, running kids around to different activities and so on. But it can also become a bit stifling and can cause some people to become a bit "stir crazy" as they used to say.

However, with the spring season full on and, for many people, a lot of free time on their hands, it's also a great time to dive into some cleaning projects you "never have time" for.

Cleaning Up While Staying Safe

By now you probably have stocked up on necessities including cleaning supplies. One of the great things about doing a thorough cleaning of your living and storage spaces is that it also allows you to do a "deep cleaning" that would be difficult otherwise.

And, while you're in the midst of a deep cleaning you can be disinfecting surfaces and spaces that you can now get to more easily.

To that tend, you might find this handy deep cleaning checklist helpful:

After cleaning up the floors, walls, counters, shelves, etc. and removing all of the misplaced items and so on, you can then do some additional disinfecting on top of what you might normally do when deep cleaning.

What's the best product to use for disinfecting at home? Turns out that trusty, ol' hydrogen peroxide is a killer disinfectant. (pun intended!)

Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is sold in concentrations of three to ten percent at most drug stores. The three percent solution works great for household cleaning and disinfecting. To use it safely, simply pour the hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle and apply it to the hard surfaces in your bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedrooms you want to disinfect.

This should include all tubs, showers, trashcans, counters, tables, chairs, doorknobs, toilets, sinks, etc. It's critical to let the solution bubble on the surfaces for about five minutes or so. Only then should you wipe it off.

And, once you've gotten through your disinfecting project, you can move into getting rid of any excess or unwanted junk you managed to accumulate.

This step may require staging items somewhere out of the way, like your garage - assuming you have room there - or out on your driveway or front porch. And, due to the "stay at home" and "shelter in place" orders still in effect throughout the country, you'll likely need the services of a reliable and affordable junk hauling company.

One of the best things about spring cleaning, aside from the satisfaction and comfort of having a clean and uncluttered home, is the opportunity to get rid of all the excess "stuff" you've managed to accumulate.

It's been estimated, for example, that most Americans - roughly 25 percent or more - cannot park their cars in their garages because of the amount of "junk" taking up space there. And this can be said about just all the storage space in a typical home. In fact, many people have storage sheds in their yards or on their patios in addition to rented storage space.

And they are all filled to the brim with stuff!

So, spring cleaning not only helps you declutter and disinfect all your space, but it lets you sort through all the things you've been storing or piling up for some forgotten reason, and pull out the things you realize are not needed or wanted any longer.

Here are five essential rules for decluttering:

  1. Purge, don't organize
  2. Only keep what is useful or valuable to you
  3. Get rid of duplicate items
  4. Be generous and donate things
  5. Replace, don't add

Eventually, once you've gone through everything in your house, garage and basement or attic, you should have some piles of "junk" that you need to get rid of.

Good news! We've got you covered.

Most government entities have established that the safe and efficient removal and disposal of waste, junk and debris is an essential function, especially in light of the current COVID-19 outbreak.

In fact, an official document released by the state of California list the professions considered “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers”  and includes

"...truck drivers who haul hazardous and waste materials to support critical infrastructure, capabilities, functions, and services"  in order "to ensure the effective removal, storage, and disposal of solid waste."

So, to avoid making unnecessary trips to the dump - or finding out you can't anyway - your best option is to call reliable and affordable junk hauling company like Junk King.
