Everyone will be spending a lot of time indoors over the next several weeks. This is the “new normal” as the entire country tries to flatten the curve of COVID-19. Although it will be a challenge, it is still home. That means everything you’ve done to make your living environment cozy was already in place. There are also a lot of terrific resources available online and not just the ability to stream movies and television. Here are some terrific ideas on how to be more productive while sheltering-in-place:
Take a Virtual Class
Schools all across the country have shifted to online learning. Thankfully, most kids are already used to working with computers, pads and doing online research but they don’t have to be the only ones utilizing online learning. You can also sign up for a virtual class (or two!). With a little searching, you will be able to find an endless variety of classes from everything from classic literature to learning a second language.
Keep in mind that those virtual classes don’t just have to be for the mind. They can also be for the body. You can find a class for cardio, yoga, Pilates and weight training.
Start a Craft Project
Do you have a hobby? You can start one now and that hobby can be focused on crafting. A few minutes on Pinterest can provide inspiration for a lot of potential projects. You might be inspired to take up knitting or needlepoint. There could be some furniture repainting or paper mâché ideas that can occupy your time. Of course, there are also all kinds of sketching, painting and coloring that you can be doing to explore your craft side.
Do More Puzzles
There is a wide world of puzzles ready to take on and not just jigsaw puzzles. You’ll be able to find crosswords, spelling bees and Sudoku, just to name a few. All of those puzzles are a great way to keep your mind active. This is actually something you’ll want to keep up for a long time.
Cook Something Special
How many recipes have you earmarked in your cookbooks that you wanted to try some day? Now is that day. You can cook something you’ve never cooked before. The longer the prep time, the better! And thanks to online food deliveries, getting those ingredients won’t require a trip to the store. What you pick can be a main dish or a dessert. Maybe even a seven-course meal!
