Kansas City July 4th Junk Removal

The 4th of July holiday is truly the most American of holidays. After all, we’re really remembering the day we became an independent nation. While a lot of the actual history might get lost in all the fun, one thing you can always count on for the 4th are fireworks. In Kansas City, the 4th of July kicks off several days early on June 25 where the City of Greenwood will be having a fireworks display at Hitt Park. The following days will find the skies over Kansas City chock full of fireworks. Here’s a small sampling:

KC Riverfest will be held at the Berkley Riverfront Park. The gates open at 1 p.m. for festival food, live music, children’s area and fireworks.

As for the actual 4th, it will be covered with firework displays and celebrations throughout the day. You might be fortunate enough to live within viewing range of one of those great fireworks show. If so, then throwing an old fashion 4th of July bash could be plenty of fun. To get ready for that party you should enlist the services of Junk King Kansas City. These guys might not be the best backyard grillers but they can certainly help you clear out the clutter from your backyard a few days before the party.

If you take a good look in your backyard you’ll probably realize you’ve got a lot of junk that can be tossed away. Old patio furniture, kiddie pools, a broken swing set and construction debris are among the common items found in most Kansas City backyards. The professional junk haulers will pile up all this stuff into the back of their truck no matter what kind of shape it’s in and they don’t have to stop there. These same junk haulers can also clear the clutter from your garage, basement or attic. After all, if you’re going to throw a party, you’re going to open up the whole house so why not get it junk-free once and for all? After the house and yard are clear you can get down to the real work: planning the menu! Just don’t forget the deviled eggs!

Home Downsizing Tips in Kansas City

Moving from one home to another is a good time to take stock of everything you own. If you’ve decided that it’s time to downsize then this inventory is crucial. Many couples and families have decided that for the foreseeable future downsizing makes more sense. Living in a smaller, more manageable environment will help you save for retirement. On the other hand, if you’re ready for that retirement the last thing you want to deal with is upkeep in a huge home. To begin the downsizing process, you need to “thin out” your stuff.

This process should begin several months before you move. There should be no rush to get rid of your stuff. Keep in mind that you don’t want to bring anything with you that would be considered junk or clutter into your new home where storage space will be at a premium. You can begin with tackling a closet clean-up one weekend. The next weekend go for the basement and so on. As you make the rounds in your home you’ll quickly find you’ve got plenty to take with you that you can’t live without but there could be just as much (if not more) of stuff you can get rid of. Start making a pile.

Once you’ve got the closets and other storage areas cleared out of the small stuff, think about the big items. Will you need that extra mattress that nobody will sleep on because it’s so old? Will you need all that baby furniture that is busted up? Will you need all the sleds, toboggans or other winter equipment? If you’re moving to Florida you sure won’t! There are probably a lot of these types of belongings that can be toss into that pile.

Now move onto the really big stuff like appliances or old televisions or computers. You don’t want to bring that into the new home so into the pile. By now, that pile of yours could be looking rather huge. Have no fear. All you need to do is schedule an appointment with a team of professional junk haulers like Junk King Kansas City to show up with their huge empty truck. In a blink of the eye, that once empty truck will be filled with all your clutter and hauled away.

Remember that just because you’re not taking something with you doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be junked. You could try selling off some valuable antiques to a local dealer. Even if you put those on consignment it is better than having to drag them along. Some items you might want to donate to charity but make sure you’re not passing along anything that is useless. That belongs in the junk pile! Be sure also to ask your junk haulers where they’ll be taking your stuff. Hopefully, they’ll be able to dump a lot of that at some of the Kansas City recycling centers around town. And yes, that would qualify towards reducing your carbon footprint!

Kansas City Dirt Removal & Hauling

How does your Kansas City garden grow? For many that answer can be summed up in one word: mulch. The recent warm spell has many Kansas City residents to starting their lawn mowing regimens a lot earlier. This is also given them the opportunity to check out the state of affairs in their gardens and getting those areas ready planting season. When you are ready for that then you have to be ready for mulch.

“You don’t want to mulch too early. You want to give the soil a chance to warm up,” says Bryan Dunning, assistant store manager of the Lowe’s at 4811 N. Oak Trafficway in Gladstone to the Kansas City Star. “Normally, that may mean waiting until mid to late spring. But we’ve been pretty lucky with the temperatures this year, and you could probably mulch now.”

One of the major benefits of adding mulch to your plants is that it cuts down on the potential for weeds to take hold. It’s also a very attractive way frame your plants from a landscaping perspective. The most popular type of mulch is organic tree bark that has been processed through a wood chipper.

“The pros of the cypress and cedar is that it will add nutrients and will give back to the soil, and it aids in weed control,” Dunning said. “The drawback is that bugs and certain other pests like it. I wouldn’t recommend putting it close to the foundation of your home due to termite issues.”

“Acidic pine needles are a good choice if you have plants that thrive in that kind of soil,” says Sal Vaglica, assistant editor at This Old House. “Cocoa hulls are becoming popular because of the chocolaty scent they release as they break down and for the rich, uniform look they provide.”

If you want to avoid the potential of pests coming around all together then you should consider various sources of nonorganic mulch such as stone and marble chips. There is even a variety of rubberized mulch that is made from recycled rubber like the kind you would get from old scrap tires.

Beyond picking the best mulch for your garden you may also have to make way for some new planting areas. This holds true if you want to expand your garden to grow a variety of fresh herbs and vegetables. If you dig up all that dirt you need to find a way to get rid of it. You need look no further then Junk King Kansas City.

Junk King is the Kansas City-based business that specializes in junk removal. While it is true that much of their business is focused on taking away junk from peoples garages, basements and closets, Junk King also has no problem with dirt removal and hauling. This makes them an extremely effective partner in your major landscaping project. As long as they’re getting rid of your dirt they can also get rid of all that other clutter. With Junk King you can beautify all areas of your home both indoors and outdoors.

Recycling News in Kansas City

Any city that is serious about recycling will set up various recycling centers to handle the volume of trash dropped off every day from the municipal garbage collectors. Kansas City is no exception. One of its busiest facilities is the Town & Country Disposal Center. Here is where around two-thirds of all of the recyclable items collected from Kansas City homes and businesses end up. At this recycling center all those common household items like milk jugs, cereal boxes, pop cans and newspapers are dropped over in one huge load. Residents don’t have to sort this garbage. But over at Town & Country, they’ll be doing plenty of sorting.

The facility is located next to a cement packaging plant and sits just outside of town. The building where all the action takes place is about as big as a football field. Most of the work is automated but before that garbage can get to the right bins, workers will be standing over conveyor belts plucking out items that don’t belong together. Paper goes one way and plastic the other. Same for aluminum and glass. Once it has been properly sorted, those materials can be chopped up and melted down then made into raw materials for reuse.

All of this is helping keep the garbage away from the Kansas City landfills; that’s the goal. Although residents are given guidelines as what should be considered recyclable material and what’s not, something always slips by and that’s when the sorters get to work. Believe it or not, these workers are looking for “clean trash.” When you consider that in March Kansas City residents tossed out 1,651 tons of recycled materials you can begin to appreciate how much sorting needs to be done.

A company like Junk King Kansas City has its own version of “clean trash” sorting but on a much bigger scale. When someone calls in Junk King  KCthey are looking to get rid of those items which can’t be tossed out in the weekly garbage pickup. These are bigger pieces of trash like old sofas, a rusty stove, a car fender or air conditioner. Just as the Town & Country facility handles the trash recyclables there are other facilities around Kansas City that recycle wood, metal and e-waste. It might be that Junk King needs to make several stops before they can empty out their truck but that’s not something you need to worry about. All you have to focus on is what you want to throw out.

Once your junk is gone, it is truly out of sight and out of mind but at least you know every effort is being made to reduce your carbon footprint through proper recycling. That’s what makes Junk King one of the greenest businesses in Kansas City.

Get Rid of Basement Junk in Kansas City

How did your basement hold up after the recent rainstorms? If you’re like many Kansas City residents then the answer is “not so good.” The recent swath of storms that passed through Kansas City left a lot of mess in their wake. A lot of that mess centered around flooded basements. Depending on the circumstances this type of flooding could be a real disaster. If your basement was just used for storage than water damage might have ruined a couple of boxes.

On the other hand, if your basement was used for a family room or guest bedroom then water seeping in from the outside could have destroyed carpet and furniture. One thing is for sure: where there is damp there is the potential for mold and that’s not something you want taking over your home. There’s nothing you can do about that but get rid of it all.

You can get rid of your basement junk by hiring a crew of local based professional junk haulers like Junk King Kansas City. These are teams of licensed and insured workers who have a lot of experience in all kinds of junk removal. This even means junk that is sopping wet. They won’t be bothered by the mess one bit. What they can do is help you get all that wet junk out of your home before any mold can start to grow. Once that has been accomplished you can bring in another crew of professionals to water proof the basement. This is all part of being a homeowner!

If you were spared any storm damage, count yourself lucky. However, you might not be spared from a basement full of junk that should be tossed out. It’s easy to store things in the basement. It’s just a trip down the stairs with a big box of junk then into a corner and it’s forgotten about. Once you’ve crossed that line there is no turning back as more and more junk starts to pile up. Pretty soon the junk in your basement has taken over. What was once a decent space in your home is now a storage locker. That’s no way to enjoy your basement. Wouldn’t it be nicer to have a family room downstairs? Or maybe a home theatre? Or a home office? When it comes to what you could do in your basement the list is endless. Here again, Junk King Kansas City can come to the rescue.

Now, it might seem as though you’re asking a lot of these crews to make so many trips up and down your basement steps but that is exactly what they are trained for. You won’t hear any complaints. That’s where the professional attitude comes into play. The sooner you can get your basement clear of junk the quicker you’ll be able to turn that space into something productive even if that means you own quiet room!

Kansas City Spring Junk Removal

There are many reasons why folks like to call Kansas City their home. When you consider the friendly neighborhoods, great schools and terrific restaurants it’s easy to see why anyone would be happy to move here. However, there is one perk that many outsiders aren’t aware of and that’s all the great spring festivals that pop at this time of year. In fact, it’s hard to find a weekend where there isn’t something terrific going on in Kansas City or throughout the state.

Take for instance Snake Saturday Festival. This is an Irish celebration now in its 28th year that has become an event everyone in Kansas City looks forward to. The festival starts out with the parade leading folks to carnival rides, food booths and a car show. For the kids there is a petting zoo and pony rides along with live entertainment throughout the festival. This is the perfect kickoff for all the spring festivals that follow.

On the long list of festivals to look forward to is the Truman Heritage Festival, the Mushroom Festival, the Apple Blossom Festival, the Weston Bluegrass Festival and the 50 miles of art. Kansas City has even gone a little Hollywood with its own local film festival that features works from residents and filmmakers from around the world.

If you live in Kansas City it’s clear you’ll have a lot to plan out in the coming weekends. However, there is one task that could prove to be a stumbling block to you enjoying all of these wonderful festivals and that would be the need to clean your home. We’re not talking about a quick dusting and sweeping but the kind of floor to ceiling spring cleaning that you should go through at least once a year.

To really accomplish a complete spring cleaning you have to take an “all hands on deck” approach to the mission. This means enlisting everyone who lives under your roof to the same task of cleaning. It makes sense that anyone with their own room should be in charge of cleaning that room. As for the common areas like the living room, kitchen or bathrooms these can be designated so that everyone has their fair share of cleaning assignments. The areas where your family members might want to avoid are the junk zones. This would be those rooms in your home that have become the proverbial dumping ground of all kinds of junk. The reason no one wants to tackle these rooms during spring cleaning is that it just too much to deal with. That’s why you should bring Junk King  in on your Kansas City Junk Removal spring cleaning plan.

Junk King is a local Kansas City owned and operated business that specializes in junk removal of any kind. Cleaning your home also means cleaning out the clutter and this can have you amassing huge piles of garbage that won’t fit in your weekly garbage pickup. Junk King KC can step in and fill the gap by hauling away that garbage in one load. As soon as your junk is cleared out and your home is clean you can tackle the important tasks of enjoying all those wonderful spring festivals!

Kansas City Tire Recycling and Disposal

What kind of shape are your tires in? The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that a tire which is at least six years old has increased chance of what they call “catastrophic tread separation.” That means a blowout and that’s certainly not something you want to ever experience. Over the years tires are exposed to intense amounts of heat and oxygen which break down the tires adhesive bond. That bond is what holds the different layers of the tire together and if that bond breaks down it only stands to reason that the tire will collapse as well.

You can easily check the age of your tires by reading the D.O.T. Code which is imprinted on every tire. The last four digits of this code will tell you when the tire was manufactured. This is something you should really be on the lookout for especially when you buy a new car because you want to make sure you’re getting new tires as well. You should also keep an eye on the age of your spare tire because if that has become old it won’t do you any good if you need to replace another tire with it.

If you swap out your old tires for a new set you might be able to leave them behind at your mechanic’s garage. However, it might be more affordable for you to do the tire replacement on your own. This will leave you with 2 to 4 tires that need to be properly disposed of. Although it might not look like it, a tire is considered hazardous material that can’t be thrown out in your weekly garbage pickup. The best course of action for an old tire would be to recycle it. A tire that is recycled is just like paper that is recycled: it’s chopped up and grinded until those small particles can be reformed into new material. In the case of tires that rubber is often used mixed in with asphalt which makes roads softer and quieter!

The last thing you want to do is have an old tire sit around in the back of your garage. That tire becomes a nesting ground for all sorts of nasty critters and bugs. It’s also just going to sit there rotting in the sun and causing a stink. The worst-case scenario would be if that tire were to catch on fire. There are some dumped yard tire fires which burn for months releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere. Not a pretty picture.

When you’ve got tires that you want to recycle and dispose of then you should be thinking about calling up Junk King Kansas City. This professional hauling company is dedicated to removing all kinds of junk from all kinds of environments. Tossing a bunch of tires on the back of one of their trucks is no big deal to the Junk King crew. While they’re at it they can also remove any other junk or garbage you might have piled up around your home. Getting rid of those old tires could just be the perfect excuse to get your spring cleaning project underway!

Declutter Your Kansas City Home

What kind of mess are you living in? It’s a fair question to ask of anybody because we are really living in a world of collectors. Even something as simple as junk mail coming into your home can begin piling up when it’s not thrown out of right away. It’s easy to toss out junk mail; it’s the big stuff that really starts making a true mess. What were really talking about are those things in your home that you either trip over walking from room to room or are complete eyesore.
If you trip over a box of papers or pile of clothes then you can move those items or walk around them the next time. Moving junk like that you means stuffing it into a corner or closet or even begin to fill up a spare room and that’s when it becomes an eyesore. It doesn’t have to be that way. Yes, there are many excuses as to why you let the mess build up. The issue now is what are you going to do about that?
One of the most important things you need to consider is that when you decide to declutter your home you don’t have to do it alone. Junk King Kansas City is just a phone call away. They are standing by to help you with your junk problem. These are crews are professional junk haulers who have the right amount of manpower and open truck space to handle carting away all of your junk. Think of them as part of your new cleanup crew team.
To begin this process you need to schedule a decluttering weekend. You should take this as serious as scheduling a dentist appointment or a night out on the town. This decluttering time can either work in conjunction with your Junk King crew appointment or it could be the precursor to that appointment. In other words, you could spend Saturday tagging all the junk you wanted hauled away and on Monday morning the Junk King crew will be there to take it all away. We’re really not talking about a huge investment in time or effort especially when you consider that the Junk King Kansas City team will be doing all the heavy lifting!
Your sorting day needs to be focused on which items you want to keep and which items you want throw away. With the clock ticking these should be easy decisions to make. Primary concern should be whether or not an item will have any further use. Sure, you might have had hours of fun playing ping-pong on that table you’ve got stored in the garage but one was the last time anyone picked up a ping-pong paddle in your family? Is there any hope that will ever happen again? Put out the call: ask your family to come over and play ping-pong. If there are no takers then get rid of that table! That’s the approach you should take with all of the clutter in your home: are you ever going to use that item again? If not leave it for Kansas City’s premiere hauling service: Junk King.

Kansas City Water Heater Disposal

The longevity of your water heater is directly tied to how much wear and tear you put it through. Unless there is some sort of disaster, running out of water is not something anyone in Kansas City has to worry about but that doesn’t mean you can’t become a proactive water user by following some of these helpful tips. Not only will your water heater last longer, but your bills should be greatly reduced.
The kitchen sink is a major culprit of water waste. Too often the faucets are kept running while doing the dishes as opposed to filling up the sink with water and cleaning the dishes that way. You could also rinse off veggies and fruit in the same way. If your sink is kept clean then there is no reason why that water won’t be clean as well. Also consider how often you use your garbage disposal. While this is a very convenient device, you could put those food scraps to better use in a backyard compost pile.
According to the EPA the typical American home ends up wasting up to 10,000 gallons of water every year through a combination of leaky faucets and running water to excess. The bathroom is another water waste zone you need to rethink. Your first consideration would be to take shorter showers. This is really where the pressure on your water heater builds up as it warms that water. The longer you stay in a hot shower, the more your water heater has to go into overdrive to keep up with the demand. Do you really need a 20 minute shower and the same “work” can be accomplished in 5 minutes? There’s also no need to run the faucet while you are brushing your teeth. The goal should be to get in and out of the bathroom as quickly as possible.
Outside you can conserve water by how you use it. Yes, your garden needs water to grow but do you really need to hose down your patios or walkways when a good sweeping will do the trick? Also, stick to the schedule when it comes to watering your lawn or garden. It will help maintain your water usage efficiency.
Even following all of those tips can’t stop time and that’s probably the biggest enemy for your water heater. If your old water heater has reached its limit and you are ready to swap it out, one of the first calls you should make should be to Junk King Kansas City. These are the top professional Junk Haulers based in Kansas City who can remove that water heater without breaking a sweat. As you make way for the new water heater, you can also use the Junk King crew to clear out some other junk items which might be cluttering up your basement. Once the new water heater is installed, keep conserving and your lower water bills will help pay for that unit in no time!
