Staying at home and relaxing has taken on a new meaning. Theses days staying at home can actually help save lives. That’s a gift we’re all sharing. It also means rethinking how we spend our time at home. The “new normal” for the next couple of weeks can actually be a wonderful bonding experience for families. To help with that, you can engage in some of that fun indoor activities.
Set Up a Scavenger Hunt
How many times a day does your kid ask for help finding something they’ve misplaced? Now you can turn the tables on them by creating an indoor scavenger hunt. The night before while they’re in bed, you can go through the house hiding random items. Don’t make it too tough. Sometimes putting things out in plain sight is all you need to do. Then when the hunt time is ready, send everyone off with their lists and the clock running. See who can get everything on the list in the quickest amount of time.
Planting seeds and watching them grow is a fun project for the whole family that is also educational. You might need to do a little “homework” online to find out the best approach for what you want to grow. A lot of the supplies for your seedlings might always be out in your garden or garage. Each day you can check in with your seedlings to see how they’re growing. When the time is right, you can replant them into bigger pots or outdoors. This is a “long game” project for sure!
Host a Theme Movie Night
You are probably already watching movies but maybe it is time to step things up a bit by planning a movie theme night. Pick a film that features a particular snack or dinner and serve them up along with the movie. You can also put out a display of candies and bag up popcorn in lunch bags just like at the movies. Everyone can take a turn picking the movie them night for the week.
Every family has a shelf of board games. Now it the perfect time to make game night a regular thing. Some games take only a little while to complete while others like Monopoly and Risk can fill up the whole night. After your regular board game nights, y your family might be ready to create their own board game. That would be tons of fun!
Gather Up the Clutter
This isn’t so much a fun activity as it is something that will make your living environment a bit nicer. You can dedicate a Saturday morning to having everyone clear out their closets and bedrooms of unwanted clutter. Then the whole family can head out to the garage and do the same thing. This is a great way to create more storage space and discover a lot of things that your forgot you had.
