Junk King Rock Hill Gets Involved in Sun City Strong’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s
On Saturday, October 19th, Junk King Rock Hill participated in Sun City Strong’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event.
Sun City Strong is a non-profit organization that supports residents of Sun City Carolina Lakes that are facing Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
Sun City Strong was formed as a result of one particular man at Sun City Carolina Lakes developing Alzheimer’s. It sparked the idea of how to become more educated about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and what can be done to fight it. This led to Sun City Strong’s first Alzheimer’s Walk, which was held at Sun City Carolina Lakes in 2016, which was made possible through support from the Nurses’ Group and other individuals within the community. The first year, $9,000 was raised and donated to the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association.
This year, Junk King Rock Hill was honored to participate in such an impactful, community event. We were stationed at the event to encourage walkers, provide information about our services, and hand out candy! We loved playing a role in the Sun City Strong’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
At this year’s event, 171 participants walked in the event, there were 46 teams formed, and $96,722 dollars were raised, surpassing the Sun City Strong’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s goal of $50,000.
Here at Junk King Rock Hill, participating in events like the Sun City Strong’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s adds a whole new level of meaning to our business and the impact we have on our community.
