Helping Thousands of Youth Across San Diego with Fully Loaded Backpacks to Start the Year Off Right
Every child looks forward to the first day of school with a varied mixture of anticipation and dread. Sometimes one outweighs the other, but one of the things that weighs on many kids in San Diego County is having the supplies they need for the new school year.
And oftentimes it’s their parents that worry about that the most.
[h3] When You Need a Lot of Backpacks Filled Quickly and Efficiently
Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego launches a major volunteer event known as the Back 2 School Drive.
The objective is to receive and fill as many backpacks as possible with supplies and tools local school kids will need to achieve academic success in the new school year. Once those backpacks and supplies have been donated, a small army of volunteers come together to sort the materials according to the needs of kindergarten through fifth grade, and for those in sixth through twelfth grades.
Then the stuffing begins!
Once they have been filled, the backpacks are distributed to elementary through high school-aged students who are participating in Boys & Girls Club programs across San Diego County prior to the start of the fall school year.
This year, some of those volunteers wore Junk King red!
Several happy and willing Junk King San Diego employees joined the dozens of other hard-working volunteers to sort, separate, stuff, and organize thousands of kids backpacks to help them be ready for the new school year.
And the guys with the red Junk King hats will tell you that, while deeply gratifying, the work of carefully placing school supplies into kid-sized backpacks was probably harder than loading old furniture and other household junk into the back of one of their junk trucks!
School Supplies and Backpacks for Thousands of Children Takes Many Volunteers
Whether they volunteered their time or donated backpacks and school supplies, many wonderful people joined together and played a vital role in giving local children a positive start to the new school year.
And it is because of them that the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego was able to provide over 4,000 youth across San Diego with fully loaded backpacks to start the year off right.
It was the combined efforts of many dozens of volunteers who worked together to accomplish a hugely impressive effort on behalf of school children across the greater San Diego region.
As the Director of Corporate Partnerships, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Sommer Cartier, was quoted as saying,
“The start of the school year can be incredibly stressful for many families across San Diego. Without access to resources and support, it can be difficult to provide children with the supplies needed to start the school year off right. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego’s Back 2 School Drive exists to help ease the pressure families face each fall by preparing their students heading back to school. Thanks to the support of generous community partners, our Boys & Girls Club members start each new school year with the essential supplies needed to excel in the classroom.”
Many San Diegans are familiar with the Boys & Girls Club. Some have children who are part of the organization and make great use of their many after-school programs. And many of the parents were part of the Boys & Girls Club when they were kids, too!
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego works to change lives with their quality youth programs and guidance that take place in a safe, affordable, and fun environment. The Clubs serve kids from ages 5 to18 at 20 community-based sites across San Diego County. These facilities are making a real difference in the lives of San Diego’s leaders of tomorrow – the San Diego youth of today.
And because of the volunteers working with its Back 2 School Drive, the Boys & Girls Club members are able to receive all the basic necessities they need to start their school year off right.
