The Best Way to Load Your Louisville Dumpster

Renting a dumpster is the best solution for a number of projects. Whether you’re cleaning out your entire basement or a whole house, doing spring cleaning for a basement or working on a remodeling, having a dumpster can make it much easier. It gives you a place to put all the debris and other junk so you don’t have piles of trash in your home or business. It keeps all of the debris contained, which can reduce the risk of accidents. Once you’re finished, we come and haul away the entire dumpster, so cleanup is incredibly simple.

While many people find using dumpsters works very well, some don’t know how to load a dumpster correctly. It can be fun to throw things into a dumpster, but often that leads to the dumpster being off-balance or causes things to shift during transport. That can be dangerous. If you’re going to rent a dumpster from Junk King Louisville, it’s a good idea to know how to load it before you start. Here are a few tips for loading up your dumpster in the most efficient way possible. With Junk King, there’s more to it than making sure the load doesn’t shift—it can actually save you money!

Try to Sort if You Can

First, before we talk about the best way to load a dumpster, we do want to acknowledge that it’s not always possible to sort out all the trash, put it in categories, and load it into the dumpster like you’re doing a puzzle. Often, you simply don’t have the space or the time for that, and we understand. These tips cover the best way to load a dumpster if it’s possible. That’s not always something you can do, but when you can, we do appreciate it. It makes your dumpster hold more and is less dangerous.

Start with the Heavy, Bulky Items

Putting the large, heavy items on the bottom is always the best idea. This includes furniture, appliances, and other really heavy things. You want to create a flat base for the rest of your trash to sit on, so you want to build a layer of heavy items across the entire bottom of the dumpster instead of stacking them on top of each other.

In some cases, you might only have one or two really heavy items. If that’s the case, you want to do your best to put them in the middle of the dumpster. Then, put items that are fairly sturdy on either side up to the dumpster walls. This will help keep the heavy items from shifting during pickup. One of the most dangerous things that can occur is for a really heavy item to go sliding to one side of the dumpster when it’s being picked up. That can cause the dumpster to fall off the lift and injure someone.

If you have a lot of heavy items and will need to stack them, follow the same plan. Create a solid layer on the bottom, then stack the heavy items into a second layer starting in the middle and adding weight to each side.

Treat the Dumpster Like a Puzzle

Remember the video game Tetris? The goal of that game was to create solid lines, and the same is true in a dumpster. You don’t want to have any gaps or holes in the layers of debris. Again, we know it’s not always possible to load the dumpster with no gaps at all, but any spaces you have create an opportunity for something to slide around.

Look for obvious places to put bags, boxes, and other small pieces of trash. If you’re putting a piece of furniture in on its legs, put flat boxes or loose items under it. Shove whatever you can under a low sofa or chair, and definitely take the time to put boxes and other trash under a table if you set it on its legs. For some items like tables, though, it may be better to put them upside down and remove the legs.

Put bags and other trash inside cabinets, drawers, and other containers when you can. This, again, saves space when you’re loading the dumpster. However, do keep in mind that if you have small but very heavy items to put them towards the center of the dumpster to keep the load balanced.

Break Down Boxes and Other Stuff

Putting large empty boxes in the dumpster creates empty space. Flatten down any cardboard boxes you have so you can save space. Also, try to break down other rubbish into small pieces. For example, placing large chunks of drywall can make empty space or make it more difficult to put other large items into the dumpster. Break these large pieces down into smaller chunks. You can often fit these smaller pieces under furniture and in other holes, too.

Don’t Load the Dumpster Too High

It may be tempting to throw a few last-minute things on top of the dumpster, but if the trash is already over the sides, don’t. Anything that’s not contained within the dumpster can fall off when it’s being moved. Nothing should be placed in the dumpster if a good portion of it will stick up over the side. Remember, safety first, especially when it comes to heavy or large items that could hurt someone or damage something if they fell.

Don’t Throw Items into the Dumpster

It may be tempting to throw things into the dumpster to see them shatter, but avoid this temptation. While it’s fun, it does mean you aren’t able to place the item into a small space or wedge it between other rubbish. It also creates small pieces of debris that you could step on. If you’re too close when you throw something in, the debris could hit you. This is especially true if you throw anything made of glass. Rather than risk harm, take the time to sit these items inside the dumpster instead of throwing them.

The Junk King Difference

Why rent a dumpster from Junk King Louisville? There are many reasons why we’re one of the best options not just in Kentucky by across the nation. Whether you need to rent a dumpster or need our junk hauling services, there are reasons for using Junk King. Here are a few of the benefits of renting one of our dumpsters:

Our Pricing

Free Junk Removal Price Estimator

With other companies, you pay full price for the dumpster no matter how much you put in it. With Junk King, that’s not the case. We have a tiered price structure. There’s the base rental price, which is also what you pay if you don’t have a lot in the dumpster. If you fill it about halfway full, you’ll pay the second-level price. If you fill the dumpster to the top, you’ll pay the maximum amount. We always make our clients aware of these prices. What you’re quoted is also the final cost—we don’t have any hidden fees or surprise charges. Our pricing is transparent and fair.

Charging by how much space you use in the dumpster is another reason why it pays to carefully load things. The more you compact the items in the dumpster, the less room you’ll use and the less you’ll pay. It pays to load up your dumpster in the most efficient way possible.

We Take Almost Everything

You can put just about anything in a Junk King dumpster. The only items we can’t haul off are those that contain hazardous chemicals. We can take appliances, furniture, electronics, yard waste, construction debris, and much more. If you ever have any question about what can go in one of our dumpsters, all you have to do is call us and ask. Our junk hauling services can take the same items you can put in one of our dumpsters.

Items We Take – Junk Pick Up & Hauling | Junk King

We Donate and Recycle

If you’re cleaning out a house or a business, you might have some furniture you need to get rid of but is still in okay condition. If you put these items in our dumpster without damaging them, we will set them aside for donation when we sort through the rubbish. We believe in limiting our impact on the environment, and that means reducing the amount of stuff that goes to the landfill. When we find items that are still usable, we pass them on to a local partner organization in Louisville that gets them into the hands of those in need.

For items that can’t be reused, we look to see if they can be recycled. If so, we take them to a local recycling center. We even remove recyclable materials from things such as furniture and appliances so that everything, no matter how small, gets recycled if possible. All of this is done at no extra cost to our clients.

Best Items for Junk Pick Up in Louisville KY

Ready to get rid of some garbage? If you’re in Louisville, you know you have a few options for having junk hauled away. Many people do wait for the city’s bulky trash day, but that only happens once a month. They also don’t take everything. A better option is to call Junk King of Louisville. Our team can often come out on the same day and pick up just about anything you may have.

What should you have Junk King haul away? You may not necessarily need us for a few bags of garbage, but there are many other items that we can handle. Here are some of the best items to have us pick up and haul away.

 furniture removal guide

Old Furniture

If you’ve bought new furniture or have a chair that is on its last legs, it’s time to get rid of it. The problem is that furniture is often large, heavy, and awkwardly shaped. You may not be able to fit large pieces of furniture in an SUV or even a small pickup truck. If you don’t have someone with a larger truck to help you out, you might be stuck with that sofa or table until bulky trash day or until you find another alternative. Some furniture stores will take the old item when they deliver your new furniture, but that’s not always the case. They won’t take extra, either, and some charge.

Junk King will pick up sofas, chairs, tables, bookcases, desks, armoires, tool chests, sofa beds, and much more. It doesn’t matter how heavy or bulky the furniture is or what it’s made of. We will do our best to see that furniture that can still be used is donated to a charity or other organization that can use it. If the furniture is broken, we will break it down and recycle whatever components can be recycled. This includes metal springs, some fabrics, and untreated wood. We do our best to keep as much furniture out of the landfill as we possibly can.

Mattresses

Mattresses are another item that is often hard to get rid of. Again, they’re large and awkward to deal with, even if they’re not particularly heavy. Mattresses can be very difficult to donate or sell since people often do not want to sleep in a bed someone else has used. Mattresses can also carry bed bugs and other pests. Some landfills will even turn down mattresses due to the chemicals they contain.

Junk King has connections to mattress disposal locations in and around Louisville, so we know where to take your old mattress. We will do what we can to recycle the mattress, bedsprings, and even the bed frame if you need us to take that as well.

Old Appliances

Getting rid of old refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, and other appliances can be a chore. Like old furniture, appliances can be heavy and bulky. It can be easy to scratch up the wall or your flooring while trying to get them out of your house. If you’re disposing of them yourself, you then have to try to get them up into your truck. If you’re leaving them at the curb for pickup, you have to make certain you’ve followed all safety requirements. For example, doors often need to be taped shut so children cannot get trapped in the appliance. You may also need to remove the refrigerant from old refrigerators, air conditioners, and freezers. This chemical can damage the soil and water, plus it can be dangerous to animals and children. Finding a professional to remove it for recycling, however, can be costly.

Junk King can take these appliances without any problems. We work closely with professional refrigerant experts who will remove the chemicals from the appliances before we take them in for recycling.

We take great care to remove these items from your home, too. You don’t need to haul them to the curb or do anything with them. Our team will come in, carefully maneuver them out of your home without damaging your floors or walls, and then get them up into our truck. You don’t have to lift a finger!

Like we do with furniture, we will donate any appliances that are still working and safe to use. If they aren’t, we will work with recycling experts to remove what components can be recycled.

Hot Tubs

While you may be able to get rid of an old appliance via the city pickup or your own vehicle, getting rid of an old hot tub is more difficult. Due to their size, many places won’t pick them up or even allow you to dump them. Before you can even be ready to dump the hot tub, you have to break it down. That can be a chore in and of itself. Few charities and other organizations want a donated hot tub, and if it’s broken, it can be even more difficult to get rid of.

Junk King will come to your home and break down your old hot tub for you. You don’t even need to move it. We will bring enough people to remove the hot tub and get it to our truck, regardless of how large it is. We also understand how to tell if a hot tub meets the requirements for recycling and where we can take it if it cannot be recycled or put in the landfill. You can leave everything to us.

Televisions and Other Electronics

Many people don’t know what to do with their old electronics and televisions. You might be hesitant to put that old cell phone, computer monitor, or other items in your trash bin, and with good reason: most electronic waste is banned from city garbage. That’s because these items often contain batteries and other materials that can damage the environment. They also contain a large amount of metals such as copper and gold that can be recycled.

If the TV or electronic item still works, you may be able to sell it or return it to the manufacturer if they offer a buy-back or trade-in program. You can also donate it. However, these options too often rely on you being able to physically take the item elsewhere. If you don’t have a vehicle or have a very large item such as an old big screen TV, that may not be an option.

Junk King is a pro at knowing how to dispose of old electronic wastes. We take everything from old cell phones to those giant televisions. If the item works, we will check with local charities to see if it’s something they want. If it’s not, we will take it to an electronics waste recycling company. They will strip out all of the components that can be reused, giving these old electronics new life.

Yard Waste

Another of the best items for junk pickup is actually not a single item at all—it’s yard waste. You may do a lot of landscaping and yard maintenance only to realize you don’t have any real way of getting rid of all of the limbs you just trimmed, bushes you’ve shaped, or even that old fence you just pulled down. You don’t want this debris sitting in a pile in your yard for very long. It will attract pests, plus it’s a hazard for children and pets. If it rains, it can all become a soggy mess that becomes an inviting home for mold and other growth.

We will pick up limbs, bagged grass clippings, removed bushes, torn down fences, disassembled sheds, and much more. You don’t need to move this debris anywhere or pile it up, though doing so does mean we can get in and out faster. Our yard debris pick up can save you a lot of time, and we work with more than just homeowners, too. We will come pick up yard debris at apartment complexes, rental properties, and houses that are going up for sale. We also do commercial pickup, so let us take care of any debris and garbage you have at your business.

Construction and DIY Project Waste

Have you done a remodel project recently? If so, you likely have a lot of debris that you need to get rid of. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to get rid of this type of trash. You can’t exactly put large bags full of old flooring in your trash bin. There is also some contractor debris that the city will not pick up.

Junk King will take just about everything from these DIY projects. We will pick up old cabinets, bathtubs, shower enclosures, flooring, and much more. We also offer dumpsters to rent if you would rather throw away this debris as you go instead of piling it up somewhere for us to pick up after you’re done.

What to Do if Your St. Matthews Business Has Construction Debris

Do you own a construction, home remodel, landscaping, or other business in St. Matthews that deals with construction debris? Did your business recently undergo some sort of renovation? Junk King Louisville wants to make your job easier by taking on your construction debris hauling. What Are the Benefits to Having Junk King Haul Away Debris?

If you’ve been in business for even a short period of time, you likely have a plan in place for dealing with your construction debris. However, that plan probably involves your own employees hauling the debris out of the work zone and into your own truck or large dumpster. If you have your own truck, someone then has to drive it to the recycling center or landfill. If you have a dumpster, it must be picked up and dumped. All of this takes time and resources.

By contracting with Junk King, we handle all of that work for you. Your team can focus on what you do best, while we deal with the labor of loading up your junk and getting rid of it. Your specialized employees are doing what they do best, while we’re handling the garbage. We provide the trucks and all of the manpower. Plus, we can arrange to visit your job site on whatever schedule you need. We might come twice a week, or you may only need us every other week. We will work with you to set up a regular schedule or send out a team as needed.

Other Reasons to Bring in Junk King

While taking the task of handling construction debris away from your team is perhaps the largest benefit to working with us, there are other reasons why you should consider outsourcing this work.

Handling construction waste does present some risks. There could be nails still sticking out of old wooden beams, plus there’s a risk of getting splinters. Some debris can be very heavy, and people can hurt themselves if they don’t know how to properly lift these items. Our team is trained in how to identify potential risks and carefully handle them. We also keep aware of the doorframes, walls, and other spaces as we haul out large items. Our goal is to not leave any scratches, dents, or other damage behind.

We understand how and where to dispose of construction debris. Some debris can be taken to a landfill, while other debris needs to be disposed of in a specific manner to protect the environment. There are even some materials that can be recylced. Our team doesn’t just haul garbage out to the truck, we also sort it as we go. We will ensure that every item is disposed of properly.

Finally, we can actually save you money in addition to time. Instead of paying your team members to haul away junk, they can continue to focus on their work. When you’re disposing of waste, you’re losing that productivity. If you factor in the amount of money and time you spend on hauling away your own debris plus the amount of work that you could have done in the meantime, it’s quite substantial.

What Qualifies as Commercial Construction Debris?

What constitutes construction debris? Most people imagine it as leftover lumber, tile, packaging, and other items associated with construction. However, it can also include old cabinets, countertops, bathtubs, shower surrounds, toilets, and much more. Even old appliances and yard waste could be considered construction debris. On top of that, it doesn’t truly matter that much to us. Junk King will haul away almost anything as long as it’s not considered hazardous waste. Even if you’re not in construction, if you’ve got just to haul, we’re here for you.

For example, you may have just renovated your office building. As a part of that renovation, you now have old carpet that needs to be hauled away, but you also have old office furniture such as desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and tables. We can take care of both. You don’t even need to move the furniture out of the building. Just point out what you want us to get rid of and let us go to work.

In addition to furniture and other office items, we also haul away old equipment. This can include just about anything, including electronic waste. E-waste often has to go through specific waste removal processes to ensure that nothing harmful is put in a landfill. Junk King Louisville has connections with the various E-waste recycling businesses in the area, so we can properly dispose of old computers, printers, monitors, cell phones, and more.

We Do More than Take Items to the Landfill

Junk King does much more than just take your construction debris and unwanted items to a landfill. In fact, we’re dedicated to taking as little to the landfill as possible. One of our goals is to recycle as much as we possibly can. To that end, we work closely with local recycling facilities. Our first trip once we have a full truck is to these facilities. We take scrap metal, plastic, paper products, and much more to the correct recycling plant. This includes old steel beams, wiring, plumbing fixtures, and much more that is often thrown out during a renovation.

If you’re in the renovation or rehab business, you may have some old appliances you need to get rid of. While some of these appliances may be broken beyond repair, you may have some that are still functional. Instead of taking them to the landfill, we will reach out to local charities and other organizations. Whenever possible, we donate functional appliances to those who need them. We also donate items such as doors, windows, and other construction materials that are still in good condition.

What Makes Junk King Unique?

There are a lot of reasons why Junk King is the top-rated junk removal business in the country. Our dedication to the environment and recycling is one of those reasons, but it’s not the only one.

We’re absolutely dedicated to providing the best customer service out there, and this extends to our St. Matthews business partners as well as our individual customers. We know you already have plenty of things on your plate, so we want to make getting rid of your construction debris as simple as possible. We make it very easy to get in touch with us, and we will always return any missed calls or emails as soon as we can.

Our team is professional. When you see a Junk King truck pull up at your job site, you know you’re going to see a team of uniformed experts ready to get to work right away. Of course, we carry all of the required insurance policies and are fully licensed.

We pride ourselves on punctuality. As one previous customer said, “They always arrive on time.” We will call or text you 15 to 30 minutes before we arrive to let you know that we’re on the way, too, so you can be ready.

Estimates You Can Count On

We will never shock you with a bill that is wildly different from the estimate you received. We will gather as much information about your job as we can before giving you an estimate, and there is never any cost or obligation from requesting a quote.

You can reach out to us via phone to arrange a free consultation, although sometimes we can quote a job with just a description. You can also text us photos of the junk you need removed or submit an online request. All quotes are done per-job rather than per-truck or per-hour because we only charge you for the amount of truck space you use. If you only have a few old appliances to pick up, you won’t pay for all of the empty space in the truck.
