What is California’s Electronic Waste Program?
California collects a recycling fee at the time of purchase on a number of products that are considered hazardous if discarded in landfills. Along with those mentioned above, the list includes portable DVD players with LCD screens, cathode ray tubes (CRTs) and any device containing them, as well as TVs with plasma screens or CRTs.
Since CRTs have mostly been replaced by LCD and LED technology, in 2016 California AB 1419 was signed into law and requires the recycling of panel glass from monitors and televisions.
