Try to Sort if You Can

First, before we talk about the best way to load a dumpster, we do want to acknowledge that it’s not always possible to sort out all the trash, put it in categories, and load it into the dumpster like you’re doing a puzzle. Start with the Heavy, Bulky Items

Putting the large, heavy items on the bottom is always the best idea. This includes furniture, appliances, and other really heavy things. You want to create a flat base for the rest of your trash to sit on, so you want to build a layer of heavy items across the entire bottom of the dumpster instead of stacking them on top of each other.

In some cases, you might only have one or two really heavy items. If that’s the case, you want to do your best to put them in the middle of the dumpster. Then, put items that are fairly sturdy on either side up to the dumpster walls. This will help keep the heavy items from shifting during pickup. One of the most dangerous things that can occur is for a really heavy item to go sliding to one side of the dumpster when it’s being picked up.
