Once payment is received a date for pickup will be provided. There is a payment drop box at 205 Lacey Street to assist residents dropping off the form and payment after hours. Public Works employees are still not permitted onto your property, so you will need to have the item(s) curbside on the specified day of pickup.

Essentially, then, if you need to urgently get rid of old furniture, appliances, or any other bulk item that is larger than 30 cubic feet, you will have to drive down to the Public Works Office, fill out a form, pay the fee, and then wait for a future date for pickup. You will also have to do all of the heavy lifting and hauling to get your bulky trash item out to the curb at the stipulated time. 

For bulky items that use refrigerants such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers, you will have to take these old items to the Public Works Department and pay a disposal fee of $35 for a refrigerator and $25 for an air conditioner. Curbside pickup for these items includes another extra fee. 

Even if you are not trying to get rid of bulky trash items, but simply have an excessive amount of regular trash after a party, celebration, or other special events, the local trash service may not pick up that waste. The Borough of West Chester’s website states that “any property that generates more than 2, 35-gallon cans and 4 borough trash bags on a regular basis is required to engage a private waste collection hauler to assume waste and recycling collections.”
