Junk King Katy Dumpster Rental

What is the Best Way to Load Your Dumpster Rental?

Dumpster rental in Katy can be a great solution to many projects. One of these giant metal bins is perfect for a DIY home remodel, taking down your old deck, or cleaning out the basement. They’re also a good solution for cleaning out a rental property or for going through a loved one’s home after they pass to prepare it for market. No matter what you need your dumpster for, it’s very helpful to know how to load it. Loading a dumpster the right way has a few different benefits. Here are some tips for loading your dumpster so you can be prepared before you search for “dumpster rental near me” or start throwing trash in it.

Why Load Your Dumpster Rental a Specific Way?

Why should you load your dumpster rental in any specific way? After all, isn’t it all going to the same place? With Junk King of Katy, that’s not true, but we will discuss that further down. Loading your dumpster in the right way has a number of benefits. First, and perhaps most importantly, is safety. A full dumpster is going to be very heavy, especially if there’s a lot of furniture or appliances in it. A dumpster that isn’t loaded correctly could tip over while it’s being picked up. Things could also fall out, damaging property or injuring someone. Of course, dumpsters that aren’t packed right may have empty spots in them that are simply wasted space. Filling them in uses up all of the space in your dumpster.

Now that you have an idea of why loading your dumpster is a good idea, let’s look at how you should load your garbage so you get the most out of your dumpster rental.

Place Items in the Dumpster instead of Throwing Them

It can be tempting to start tossing things into the dumpster without really looking to see where they land. This is especially tempting during the demo portion of a DIY project. Tossing an old mirror just to hear that satisfying sound of glass shattering might be fun, but it also isn’t the best way to load the dumpster. For one, it creates a safety issue because now you have shards of glass everywhere. Second, it creates uneven, awkward piles that can shift and move. There will be many gaps in the load, something dumpster rental experts know can cause problems during pickup. Place items in the dumpster, especially heavy or large items, so you know they’re not going to shift or take up more space than they should.

New call-to-action

Put Large Items on the Bottom

When you begin filling up your dumpster, do your best to put your large, heavy items on the bottom. This includes furniture and appliances. It can be difficult to do this because these items are often underneath other things. For example, if you have a large old sofa in your basement, it may have stacks of papers, clothing, and other things that need to go in the junk removal pile. Do you cart those out to the dumpster first, or do you try to find a place for them until you can unearth the sofa and get it out? You may not have a place to put those items, or you may need to get a lot of that stuff out so you can safely remove the sofa.

In some cases, you may be able to bag up lose items and set the bags aside, but that’s not always possible. Even if you do have to put some things in your dumpster before you can load in the heavy objects, try to keep the layers of trash as level as possible. This way, there’s less risk of a heavy object sliding around and unbalancing the dumpster.

Distribute the Weight Evenly

Speaking of items sliding around in your dumpster, do try to distribute the weight as evenly as you can. While the trucks that load and unload Katy dumpster rentals have safeties in place to prevent the dumpster from falling, a sudden shift in weight can cause problems. If you put a heavy appliance on one side, try to put some heavy furniture on the other. If you don’t have a ton of heavy things, put them in the center of the dumpster and try to put enough stuff around them that they won’t shift. Don’t put the heavy items on the top, either. Try to place them in an even layer coming out from the middle at the very bottom. Again, this may not always be possible, but do your best to put heavy items into the dumpster as soon as you can.

Break Down Items Wherever Possible

If you have a lot of empty boxes and other items set out for junk removal that can be broken down, do so before you put them in the dumpster. This includes things such as old pieces of drywall, tiles, concrete, cardboard boxes, and anything else you can flatten or break down. This helps to reduce the amount of wasted space in the bin. Of course, you could use any boxes you have to hold other junk, then put the full boxes in the dumpster. Whatever you do, try to compress or break down as much as you can so there are no empty spaces.

Take apart items wherever you can, too. You may be able to take the back off of a sofa or break a sectional down into two or three pieces. Doing this will help you arrange the pieces so there aren’t that many gaps and so the weight is better distributed.

Fill in the Gaps

Another tip for filling a junk removal dumpster is to fill in any gaps you have. While breaking down items and putting large pieces at the bottom will help eliminate wasted space, there’s always the chance you’ll have gaps somewhere. Do your best to fill in these areas. For example, you can put fairly flat trash or broken-down boxes underneath that large sofa you put in the bottom of the dumpster. Push squishable bags of trash between larger items whenever you can, and take a break every now and then to check the dumpster for gaps on the sides. The more you pack in, the less chance the load will shift when the dumpster is picked up.

Know What Can’t Go in the Dumpster

Many junk removal dumpster rental companies do have specific rules about what can and what cannot go into their dumpster. Some of these lists are very lengthy, and in the end, you may not be able to put that much into the dumpster. With Junk King of Katy, however, we have just one rule: no hazardous materials. Other than that, we can take just about anything. You can load up your dumpster with old furniture, appliances, electronics, yard waste, trash, mattresses, and even DIY construction debris. If you have any questions about what you can put into one of our dumpsters, just ask.

Why Rent a Dumpster from Junk King of Katy?

Junk King is known as one top names in Katy junk removal services. We provide both standard junk hauling services and residential dumpster rental. We also work with local businesses and offer commercial dumpster rental and junk pickup.

Our pricing structure is perhaps the best reason why you should work with Junk King when it comes to renting a dumpster. Many places will simply charge you the same fee for your rental, even if you only use a small amount of the dumpster. We don’t. Instead, we start with a minimum fee that’s typically much less than our competitors. If you don’t use much of the dumpster, you may not pay more than that. If you do fill the dumpster up to the halfway point, you’ll pay a little more. If you fill it up, you’ll pay the maximum price. This gives you even more motivation to pack your dumpster as tightly as possible since you’ll save money by doing so.

junk removal service recycling

We Recycle and Donate

When we pick up items or collect your dumpster, the first thing we do is to go to our warehouse and begin sorting through it. First, we’ll take anything that’s in good condition and set it aside to be donated. If you have an old chair or table that’s in good condition, a refrigerator that still works, or anything else that can be used by someone else, we’ll see to it that it gets to one of our local partners. These organizations help those in need, and your items will go to someone who can use them.

Of course, some things simply cannot be used any longer. If they’re made from recyclable material, we will send them to a recycling center. We’ll even take apart larger items so the recyclable parts get reused. Our goal is to greatly reduce what ends up in the landfill.

Junk King Katy Moving to Katy TX

Things to know if you are moving to Katy, TX

Are you thinking about moving to Katy, TX? This city has a lot of great things about it. While it’s considered a part of the Greater Houston Metro, Katy itself is considered the hub of the Greater Katy area. The population in Katy TX isn’t as overwhelming as Houston—there are a little over 20,000 people in the city itself. Katy has grown over the years, though, and is now home to those who want access to everything Houston has to offer but also don’t want to live in a large city.

If you’re planning a move to the area, here are a few things you should know ahead of time so that move goes smoothly and doesn’t stress you out too much.

Ready To Book? Click & Save $20!

The Katy Quadrants

Katy is an interesting city as far as layout goes because it’s perfectly split into four sections by Grand Parkway 99 and Highway 10. These two highways allow you to get just about anywhere very quickly. Hop on I-10, and in 45 minutes, you’re in downtown Houston. TX-99, which runs north and south, gives you access to Cypress, Sugarland, and more.

Each area of Katy is a little different. Old Katy, which sits in the northwest, is a mix of old and new construction. You’ll find large, spacious lots and homes here, plus Downtown Katy. On the opposite side of TX-99 is North Katy. This is the newer area of the city, so you’ll see new construction going on here fairly often. If you’re looking for a new home, this may be the place to start.

To the south of I-10, you’ll find the Southeast and Southwest Katy quadrants. In the southeast, you’ll find some of Katy’s most popular neighborhoods as well as great schools. The southwest area is known for being home to Cinco Ranch, a planned community that is often on “top 10 places to live in the Houston area” lists. This part of Katy is also home to other planned communities, so if you’re looking for houses for rent in Katy TX, it’s not a bad place to start your search.

Most People Commute

Even though you’re moving to Katy TX, you may not be working there. Many people who live in the city work in Houston, Sugar Land, or another nearby area. Thanks to the easy access to the two highways, your commute won’t be too bad once you understand the flow of traffic. Like any metro area, Houston has its own unique traffic flow, and until you experience it, it can be hard to tell exactly how long your commute time will be. Once you’ve spent a few weeks in the area, though, you’ll likely know exactly when to leave and what shortcuts to take to make your commute a breeze.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Katy has many amazing parks and other outdoor spaces. If you love relaxing outside, have kids, or have dogs who like going on long walks, you’ll find the green spaces in Katy are incredible. No matter where you live, there’s likely a park within a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk. These parks plus the hiking and bike trails you’ll find around the city are one of the many reasons why many people have moved to Katy.

Shopping and Dining

The Katy Mills Outlet Mall is one of the biggest shopping destinations in the area. It’s also home to some of the best restaurants in Katy. When you first move to the city, this is one of the places you’ll want to visit to pick up anything you need for your new home. There’s also a popular movie theater here, so it’s a good place to take a break once you get settled in.

Junk King Katy Junk Removal Eviction Management

Housing Costs are Rising

While there are many houses for rent in Katy TX, you’ll also find homes for sale. Due to how popular Katy has become, though, housing prices are on the rise. This means if you plan on buying, you’ll want to look sooner rather than later. The good news is that if you do buy a home and the market trends continue as they are, you’re making an excellent investment. According to Zillow, in 2022, home prices have increased by more than 23 percent. Housing prices in Downtown Houston tend to be higher, but some of the other neighboring suburbs are going to be lower in cost. However, these other suburbs may not have the top-tier schools, number of parks, and other amenities that you’ll find in Katy TX.

Of course, buying a house isn’t your only option. You’ll find many apartments in Katy that are very reasonably priced. Renting means you still get to take advantage of everything Katy has to offer, but you don’t have a mortgage payment or have to worry about taking care of a home. Renting may be the right option for you, especially if you don’t have time to search for the perfect home before you have to move to the city.

Be Ready for the Weather

Katy is located in what is classified as a humid subtropical location. This means the summers are going to be pretty warm, and the humidity may be unexpected if you haven’t lived in an area with high humidity before. The winters, however, will be fairly mild. The biggest thing that may be a concern for you weather-wise is the potential for tropical storms and hurricanes. While they’re not as common as they are in Florida or Louisiana, hurricanes have hit Houston before. Learning what to expect from one is important if you’re moving to Katy TX.

In addition to hurricanes, the humid summers also bring mosquitos. Be prepared to deal with these pests as well as chiggers, ticks, gnats, and fleas. You’ll certainly want to have some bug spray on hand. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you may want to look for a home or apartment that includes a screened in porch or balcony so you can get some fresh air without being eaten up by bugs.

Know How to Deal with Junk and Garbage

While the City of Katy’s regular garbage service will take care of most of your daily trash, if you have any large items or a lot of DIY project debris, you may want to look into junk removal services. These services will haul away anything you have except hazardous wastes, so they’re perfect for getting rid of broken appliances or old furniture. Junk King of Katy is here to help you with anything you’ve decided doesn’t work with your new home and with the debris created from remodeling.

When You Need Junk Removal in Katy

There are many times you might need to search for “junk removal near me.” One of those times is when you’re moving. You may have some junk that you don’t want to move with you, so you’ll need to look into junk removal in your current location. However, there’s also a chance that you’ll get to your new home and decide some of the stuff you’ve moved just doesn’t fit. Maybe the space isn’t as large as you thought it would be, or maybe a bookshelf came apart during the trip and can’t be repaired. You’ll also have packing material, boxes, and other items you may no longer need after you get unpacked. Katy junk removal services can take care of all of this for you.

If you plan on doing any remodeling, you’ll certainly need to look into junk removal. The city’s trash service will not pick up items that fall into the category of construction debris. This means old tile, drywall, and other items can’t go into your trash. You’ll also likely have a lot of this debris if you’re doing a full room renovation or other major DIY projects. You’ll want to get rid of all of this trash at once. Junk King will take it all, and our trucks are big enough that we can usually do it in just one load.

junk removal service recycling

We Recycle and Donate

Some furniture and other items you want to get rid of may still be in usable condition. Instead of taking those items to the landfill, Junk King will sort them out and pass them along to one of our local partners. These charitable organizations will see to it that these items are given to those who need them.

Broken or damaged items that cannot be used may not go to the landfill, either. Instead, we will send them to one of our recycling partners. Even items such as old sofas may not go into the landfill as they are. We will remove any components that can be recycled. Our goal is to contribute as little as possible to the dump.

What We Take

Junk King takes a wide variety of different items, including furniture, televisions, electronic wastes, yard debris, construction waste, old hot tubs, mattresses, and freezers. Basically, we can haul away anything as long as it doesn’t contain hazardous waste. For anything that is hazardous, we may be able to direct you to someone who can handle it.

Do you love to spend time in your backyard? If not, why not? For some, the answer is that the space simply isn’t what they need. They may not have a good indoor/outdoor living space, or there may not be enough grass or shade. For others, their backyard may include an old shed, worn patio, and landscaping that’s in need of an update. If you don’t have the perfect backyard oasis, don’t worry—you can actually create it fairly easily. Renovating your backyard doesn’t have to be expensive, especially if you’re willing to do some of the work yourself. Here are a few tips that will help you create a space you love.

Determine What You Need in Your Perfect Backyard

Before you start digging up flowerbeds or pouring a new concrete patio, take some time to think about what you really want and need. If you have kids or dogs, you may want space for them to play. If you often have family and friends over for cookouts, you may need a larger patio space and an outdoor kitchen. If you love swimming, you may even want to put in a pool, although that is a much more costly renovation.

By making a list of what you want and planning out how your yard should look when it’s finished, you’ll find the entire renovation process is much easier. You’ll know what needs to change, what you want to take out or add, and what contractors you might need. You may need someone to pour your new patio, a crew to build a deck, or a junk removal service to haul away any debris that’s left from these projects.

Learn More About Items We Take

Assess Your Yard

As part of the planning process, you also want to assess your yard. What are its major components? You may have a patio, a deck, a shed, several trees, some flowerbeds, or other items. Also include things such as your HVAC compressor unit and any utility meters you have in your backyard. You’ll need to take these items into account when planning out your renovation.

If you plan on putting in a pool, adding a concrete patio, or bringing in a new shed, you should also have your utility lines marked. If you pour a patio over your water line and then the line breaks, you may have to tear up that patio to make repairs.

Next, assess the condition of each of these items. Is your shed in good shape? How is your deck holding up? Do you have cracks in your concrete patio? Even if you plan on keeping these items, your backyard renovation is the perfect time to give them an update or make necessary repairs. Think how your cracked patio will look when the rest of your space is finished and brand new.

The third thing you’ll want to make a note of is how much you use the item. If your shed is mostly empty, it might be time to replace it with a smaller option or look for someone to help with shed removal. If you don’t spend any time out on your large patio, do you really need it? Maybe you could shrink it down and give your kids more yard to play in. You may have inherited some large flowerbeds from the property’s previous owner, but if you don’t have the time to keep up with them, it may be better to simply remove them. If you have an old swing set your kids have outgrown, why keep it? Look for swing set removal options and free up that space.

Create a Plan for the Renovation

Now that you understand the current state of your backyard, it’s time to think about what you want to change. Going into a renovation without a plan is a good way to waste time and money. The last thing you want is to begin a project and then realize partway through that it won’t fit in the space you have or that you horribly underestimated the cost. Having a plan will ensure you get everything done on time and on budget.

Start with Getting Rid of Things

The first step is to determine what you want to get rid of. This way, you can create a blank canvas to build on. Once you get your old shed, deck, and other things out of your backyard, you may realize that the space isn’t quite what you thought it was. This can help you make adjustments to your plan before you spend any money on construction. It also lets you plan out when you need a junk hauling service. You can do a search for “junk removal near me” and get quotes before you even begin.

New call-to-action

Know What You Can DIY

Make a list of the tasks you can do yourself. This may include taking down the old deck or shed, putting in a paver stone walkway, and redoing the landscaping. By handling some of the tasks yourself, you can plan out when you’ll need to bring in some help.

Learn about Flowers

What do you know about flowers, especially flowers that thrive in your climate? If you want to have a flowerbed or two, it can help to learn about local flora while looking into flower bed ideas. If you’d love some flowers but know you don’t have a lot of time to care for them, you’ll want to look for some plants that don’t need a lot of attention. You may want perennials that come back each year so you don’t have to replant flowers every spring. Also, be sure that the flower bed ideas you decide to implement take into account the season. Some flowers should be planted in the fall, while others may need to be planted in the spring or summer.

How Junk King of Katy Can Help

Now that you have outlined your plan and know what you can handle on your own, you’ve likely realized just how much debris you’re going to have to get rid of. Even if you’re not taking down a shed or removing a patio, you’ll still have some trash. If you build a deck, for example, you’ll have to trim some boards. This will leave you with some scrap bits of wood that you need to get rid of. You may have dead bushes, cut limbs, and old paver stones that have to go.

That’s where Junk King can help. We have the crew and the equipment needed to haul all of this debris away, and in most cases, it will only take us one trip. In just a few hours, we’ll have the garbage hauled off, and you can begin transforming your yard.

What We Take

When you look for something like “shed removal near me,” you’re likely only thinking about getting rid of that old shed. While we can certainly do that, we’re also a full-service junk removal company. This means we can also get rid of that old recliner, the worn-out mattress, and that busted TV you have in the garage. We will haul away appliances, refrigerators, hot tubs, and even construction waste. The only thing we can’t deal with is hazardous waste.

When we do take items, we try to recycle or donate whatever we can. For example, you may have an old patio furniture set with a broken table and two busted chairs. If the other two chairs are still usable, we can set them aside to donate. We also pass on whatever we can to local recycling centers. That waste from building your deck can be recycled, as can the metal in the damaged patio chairs. At the end of the day, we aim to reduce our contribution to the landfill by as much as possible.

When you hire us for yard waste removal services, you won’t need to do anything to the debris. Leave it wherever it is. When we arrive, just point out what we need to haul away, and we’ll get to work. The same is true for anything in your home. You don’t have to move that old sofa out to the curb or even put it in your garage. We will carefully maneuver it out of your home. We want to make the entire process as easy as possible.

Why Junk Removal is Key to the Perfect Backyard

Things in the backyard can be large, bulky, or heavy. If you don’t own a truck, it can be hard for you to get rid of that old shed or deck. You can search online for things such as “swing set removal near me,” but many of the companies you’ll find won’t take everything Junk King does. We can get rid of those old pavers, the used shingles on the shed, and the nails from the old deck in the same load we take your old sofa, mattress, and refrigerator.

Are you ready to book a debris removal company? Call Junk King of Katy today at 1-888-888-JUNK to learn more about how we can help you make the ultimate backyard.

Ready To Book? Click & Save $20!

When a loved one passes on, it can be hard to find time to grieve. You’re immediately tasked with making funeral arrangements, contacting others, and much more. Even after the funeral, there’s still a lot to be done, and it can be very taxing on you and your emotions. Dealing with your loved one’s estate can be especially difficult. Going through their belongings is likely to bring back memories and make their loss even harder.

However, estate cleanout services such as Junk King of Katy can help. While we won’t make any decisions on your behalf, we are here to remove any old furniture, appliances, and anything else you decide you simply can’t keep. We’ll take care of removing those items so you don’t have to add renting a truck or dealing with the landfill to your long list of things you have to deal with.

When Do You Have to Clean Out a Loved One’s Estate?

The time you have to deal with estate cleanout varies greatly by where your loved one was living. If they owned the home they lived in, you will have a good amount of time to clean it out. Even if their will specifies that the home is to be sold, you’ll still have weeks or even months to handle that because of how long the probate process takes. You won’t necessarily have to go through anything, although if there is a mortgage on the property, you will want to contact the lender and make certain the payments continue to be made.

If your loved one lived in an apartment, rental property, or assisted living center, though, you may not have as much time. The landlord or center administration is likely going to want to rent out the property as soon as they can, so you may only have a few weeks or a month to sort through your loved one’s possessions and either take them or get rid of them. Some people simply call estate or assisted living cleanout services and have everything boxed up and put in a storage unit.

While that’s a solution if you don’t feel like you can face the chore itself, you do have to be careful that you don’t simply leave everything in storage for years. The amount of storage unit fees you pay will add up. If you have the items stored in your home, there may be a good amount of usable space that you’re giving up. It’s perfectly okay to store items for a short period of time while you process your grief, but try not to let them sit for years. You can always make use of a junk removal service such as Junk King once you do sort through everything and know what you want to get rid of.

Bigger Trucks

Should You Hire Estate Cleanout Services?

The next question to ask is whether or not you need to hire estate cleanout specialists. If you don’t have a truck or have a lot of stuff you decide you don’t need, you’re going to want someone to haul it away for you. It will be much easier, faster, and even more affordable than renting a vehicle and trying to do it all yourself.

If your loved one lived in their own home or apartment, they likely had a good amount of furniture that you won’t need. Even those in assisted living may have had some of their own furniture that you now have to move out of the center. What do you do with it? You may have some friends or family members who could use some of it, but you also will likely find yourself with a sofa, bed, table, and more that you simply don’t need and have no room to store.

Many people want to donate these items, especially if they’re still in good condition, but even that can be difficult if you don’t have a truck. While there are some donation organizations that will come pick up items, many don’t have a large vehicle. They won’t be able to take more than one or two pieces of furniture. If you have a whole house of stuff, it’s not practical to ask them to come back multiple times.

While people generally think of us as a trash removal service, Junk King actually does much more than that. One of our goals is to reduce how much stuff we put into a landfill. To that end, we do work with local Houston charities and other organizations that accept donations. If you have furniture that’s in good condition and appliances that still work, we won’t haul them off to the dump. Instead, we will set them aside for donation. It’s perfectly fine to call us and say that you have a lot of items that are in good shape. We will make sure they get donated to the right place.

We Also Recycle

In addition to cleaning up the home and donating items to charity, Junk King is also a firm believer in recycling. If your loved one had items that are no longer useable, there’s a good chance those things can be recycled. Even if the entire appliance or piece of furniture can’t be, we can often disassemble it and recycle some of the components. Again, we want to limit what goes into the landfill, so we work closely with local recycling centers to recycle everything we possibly can.

When Should You Call an Estate Cleanout Service?

Once you’ve decided you do need some help with junk clean up, the question becomes when to call them. With Junk King, you’ll need to know what you’re getting rid of for us to give you an estimate. This means you’ll have to go through everything before you call us. That may be fine in some cases, but you may have so much to go through that you simply don’t have the space to sort it out. There’s no space to put stuff you want to keep separate from the stuff you want to get rid of.

One solution if you have too much to sort through is to rent a dumpster. With a dumpster, you’re able to take more time to sort through things. When you decide you don’t need to keep something, you can take it out to the dumpster instead of leaving it in the house. This will give you more space to sort things and will help you visualize exactly what you’re keeping. It’s a good middle ground for when you want someone to help you clean out a house but also need time to go through everything.

Are You Ready to Clean Out a Loved One’s Home?

The last thing to ask yourself is if you’re prepared to start the cleanout process. Unfortunately, as discussed above, if your loved one lived in a rental property or assisted living facility, you may not be able to wait until you feel fully prepared. The best thing you can do in this case is to ask a friend or family member to help you. With someone you trust beside you, the process can be easier. You’ll still be hit with emotion, of course, but having someone there with you means you’re not going through it alone.

Another thing before you start searching for “junk removal near me” and making plans is to ensure that you can legally remove items from the property. If you’re in the probate process and there are several heirs, talk with your lawyer first. While it may be fine to get rid of some personal items, you may need to hold off removing furniture, electronics, and other high-ticket items because they may need to be split between those set to inherit the estate.

Even if your legal counsel says it’s fine, you should still reach out to your family and close friends of your loved one to ask if there’s anything they want. They may even volunteer to help you sort through things. This can turn the process into something of a memorial gathering, and it may actually be more cathartic than you expected.

Call Junk King for Help

Once you have sorted through things and know what you want to get rid of, it’s time to call the best Katy junk removal experts. The Junk King team will take just about anything as long as it doesn’t contain hazardous materials. This includes furniture, appliances, electronics, mattresses, and much more.

Many people do ask the question of how much does an estate cleanout cost. There’s not a set cost—each job is different, but we do provide free, no-obligation estimates for every client. Simply give us a call or text us to let us know what you need hauled away. For a large job such as an estate, we do often need to do an in-person assessment. When we do, we can often bring the crew and truck with us. This means if you accept the quote, we can go to work right away.

You may know about a number of items that you simply cannot throw in the trash. The city of Katy will not accept certain hazardous items. To legally get rid of these items, you either have to do something to change their properties so they aren’t hazardous or contact a specialty waste disposal service. However, Junk King of Katy can take many of these things. Here are some of the most unusual items that we can help you get rid of.

We Handle Paint Disposal

Getting rid of old paint isn’t easy because, in its liquid form, it’s dangerous to the environment. It can also make a huge mess if the can is damaged and the paint spills. If you’re looking for paint disposal near me, you’re likely to find that getting rid of liquid paint is not an easy task.

Disposing of Water-Based or Latex Paint

One of the first things a search for “how to dispose of paint” will tell you is that you’ve got to add a hardener to it first. There are several different products you can add to this. You can go to your local home improvement or hardware store and purchase specific paint hardening products. When you add these products to liquid paint, it turns the paint into a solid mass that can be disposed of. You can then make use of a service found in a search for “paint disposal near me.”

A much easier solution, though, is to add standard cat litter to the paint. Any clumping cat litter can be added to liquid paint to harden it. When looking for how to dispose of paint, you should find instructions for this method. Just add an equal amount of litter to the can of paint. If there’s too much paint in the can, you can pour it into a plastic trash bag or other container, then mix in the cat litter. This is the easiest method of paint disposal and is also very affordable. You don’t need to purchase quality cat litter, so pick up the cheapest brand. As long as it clumps, it will work.

Once you’ve added a hardener to your paint and it has solidified, Junk King will come pick it up and haul it away. If you don’t know where to dispose of paint, simply call us to take care of it.

Oil Paint Disposal

For oil-based paint, though, it’s not quite as easy. There’s no product you can add to harden it, which makes oil paint disposal more difficult. We cannot take oil-based paints, nor can the city trash service. Instead, you need to take them to a special disposal center. There are several Environmental Service Centers in the Greater Houston area that will accept oil-based paints for disposal. No Katy junk removal service will take oil-based paints.

We’ll Take Old Batteries to the Correct Recycling Facility

Wondering how to dispose of batteries? Many people just drop them in the trash, but even a small AAA battery contains cadmium, nickel, mercury, and other chemicals that can seep into the water or soil and damage the environment. Instead of tossing them, set them aside for Junk King. We understand you may not want to call us to take away a bucket of batteries, but you can put them in with other large trash for the next time you need our services.

Batteries can actually be recycled, though you can’t put them in the city recycling bins. Rechargeable batteries are easier to recycle, but even single-use ones can be reused. They can be disassembled and their base components reused in new batteries or in other products.

Batteries that have leaked or are damaged may not be recyclable, but they should still be sent to the correct facility for proper disposal. Make sure the active ends of the old batteries don’t touch. You can do this by putting pieces of tape on each end. Finally, don’t leave them in the garage or any other area where they may freeze or overheat. They can potentially combust in such extreme temperatures.

Recycle Your Old Electronics with Junk King

Learning how to properly dispose of electronics can be confusing because there are so many different types of products. “Electronics” is such a wide category—it includes everything from smart watches and cell phones to large smart TVs and sound systems.

While Junk King does end up taking some items we collect to the landfill, we do our best to donate or recycle everything we can. That includes e-waste. There’s a large amount of precious metals and other materials in these devices that can be recycled. There are also chemicals, especially in the batteries, that make throwing these devices in the trash a bad idea. Like any battery, they can explode if exposed to extreme temperatures. They may also leak, getting into the soil and water.

Instead of throwing them in the trash, do a search for “electronic disposal near me.” You’ll likely find a list of retailers that accept old devices for recycling. For example, some cell phone stores will take old phones and recycle them. Some electronic stores may also take small devices. However, finding a place that will recycle large items such as televisions or even desktop computers isn’t always easy. These e-waste items aren’t something you can just throw in your trash bin, either.

Junk King takes electronics of all types. If any of them work, we will send them to one of our local charities. These organizations help get such devices into the hands of those who need them. If you have e-waste that doesn’t function, we will pass it off to a recycling center. We work with several centers that specialize in recycling old electronics, including computers, phones, televisions, and other devices. You don’t need to know how to properly dispose of electronics on your own—just call us!

Don’t Leave that Old Hot Tub in Your Yard

Some junk hauling services won’t take hot tubs because of how large they are. Many homeowners aren’t certain how to disassemble them or what to even do with them, so they simply end up leaving them where they are. The old hot tub takes up space and can become a hazard if you have small children who like to play around it.

If you need help getting rid of an old hot tub, Junk King is here for you. Our team is familiar with many different brands of hot tubs and can disassemble them quickly and efficiently. Once we’ve broken them down, we’ll haul the pieces out of your yard to our truck and get rid of them. We make certain that the water lines and other connections are closed off correctly, so you don’t have any leaks or other issues.

Why Junk King?

Why should you call on Junk King when you’re searching for paint disposal near me? We have years of experience in the junk hauling industry, and our customers in Katy have always been very pleased with our work. “Kind, courteous, and fast” is how one of our previous clients described us. We’ll come to your home or business and do all the work. You don’t even have to move the items you want hauled off outside or into your garage. Just tell us what you need us to take, and we’ll get it out of your home.

Our team is dedicated to safety as well. We use safe lifting techniques to maneuver heavy, bulky objects out of your home. We also take care not to scratch up your floors, walls, or doorframes. Once we have the objects out of your home, they go straight into one of our trucks. We then sort them into items that can be donated, items that can be recycled, and junk that can only be taken to the landfill.

Junk King Katy Cleaning Tips for Moving In or Out of Katy, Texas

Cleaning Tips for Houses and Apartments in Katy

Do you need help with moving in Katy? Maybe you just moved and have tons of boxes, or you are about to, and want to dispose of items so you do not have to move them? Here at Junk King Katy, whether you are moving in or out of the area, we can help. Want some tips to clean up before you move in, or after you have moved out? Then read on!

Ready To Book? Click & Save $20!

When you move into a new house or apartment, you want it to be spotless. Likewise, when moving out, you should leave the place clean for the new owners or for showings to potential buyers/renters. While a quick sweep or vacuum may be enough in some cases, in others, you may need to do some deep cleaning. Let’s take a look at what you may want to do when you move into a new home and how you can leave your previous one looking immaculate for the new tenants or owners.

Clean When the Place is Empty

One good tip both for your new home and your old one is to do a really deep cleaning when there’s nothing in the house or apartment. This allows you to get into every corner and other space without moving furniture, rolling up rugs, or dealing with anything else that could be in your way. It’s much easier to vacuum and sweep, plus you can wipe down all the baseboards and even check your flooring for damage. If you see any spots that do look damaged, you’ll want to notify your landlord or potentially repair those spots before listing your home for sale in Katy.

Timing your house cleaning so it can be done before you move in or after you move out can be a little complicated, especially if you’re on a tight schedule. For the space you’re moving out of, you can start cleaning in areas like the kitchen or bathroom where you don’t have a lot of furniture. Then wait until your furniture removal service has all of your large sofas and chairs moved to your new home before tackling the bedrooms and living room.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

If you’re trying to finish cleaning when the movers are bringing things in the door, you’re not going to do as good a job as you otherwise would. One of the best moving tips to remember is to always give yourself time. If possible, block out several days to clean before you move in. Once something like your bed or large entertainment center is put in place, you may rarely, if ever, move it to clean under and behind it. This means now is your only time to really give those areas a deep cleaning.

For the property you’re leaving, you’ll also want to leave yourself a few days to clean. There may be some spots you really need to scrub on. If you’re leaving a rental unit, the landlord will likely come in and do a deep cleaning before the new tenant takes over. However, that doesn’t mean you can skip the apartment cleaning phase of moving out. You want your deposit back, so you’ll need to leave the apartment or rental house in the same condition it was in when you moved in.

Specific Cleaning Tips

Doing a final cleaning at an old home or the first deep cleaning of a new home is a little different from your regular maintenance cleaning. Experts recommend that you start from the top. You may not normally take down your light fixtures to clean, but that’s where you want to start. Clean the light covers, wipe down the walls in the kitchen (food splatters can reach some very unlikely places), and clean out the insides of all of your cabinets. Wipe down shelves, clean under the sinks, clean any appliances you’re leaving or that come with the home, and in general try to clean all of those little places you normally wouldn’t get into.

Should You Hire a Cleaning Service?

One question many people have is whether or not they should look into cleaning services. This depends on your financial situation, of course, but also on the state of your home. In most cases, if you’re moving into a rental, the landlord will have already had a cleaning service come through. This is almost always a guarantee at an apartment complex.

For rental homes, though, it may not always be done. The best tip is to use your own judgment when taking in the state of the property. If it looks like the bathtub hasn’t been deep cleaned recently or you notice some odd spots on the carpet, you might want to have the professionals coming through. If you’re not having the entire home deep cleaned, you may be surprised at how affordable professional cleaning services can be.

When moving out, again, it depends on the state of the home. With rentals, you want to get your deposit back. If you know you’ve spilled a lot on the carpet or have some weird sticky places on your kitchen counter, it might be time to search for “cleaning services near me.” If everything looks like it’s fairly clean, you might be able to handle it yourself.

When selling your home, you want everything to be as inviting to potential buyers as possible. People are going to pick up on every little defect and oddity, and that includes stains and smells. You may want to use cleaning services here to just make certain the home is spotless. They know all of the tricks for making a house shine and will handle everything from removing stains in the bathroom to cleaning stainless steel appliances. Your real estate agent may have some cleaning tips or discuss replacing things to help the property sell faster.

What About Stuff You Don’t Want?

While cleaning the carpets and making sure the bathroom looks great, what do you do with junk you don’t want to move but can’t leave behind? If you end up with a lot of large furniture, old appliances, and other stuff you don’t need, you’ve got to get rid of it somehow. Trying to handle old furniture removal yourself can be a challenge. You need to have the right type of vehicle to haul it away, plus you have to have at least one other person help you get it out to the truck.

One easy solution to dealing with large items such as old furniture, appliances, and even boxes of stuff you don’t need is to call on Junk King. We’re a full-service junk removal company that will handle just about anything. We’ll haul away your old furniture, appliances, trash, electronics, yard waste, hot tubs, mattresses, and even construction waste and stuff left over from a DIY project. The only thing we can’t deal with is hazardous waste.

Many people do take the chance to declutter and get rid of old stuff when they move. This is the perfect time to call us in. We’ll handle all of the heavy lifting. In fact, you don’t even need to move your furniture outside or into another room. We’ll carry it out for you. We know how to move even the heaviest, bulkiest items safely without damaging doorframes, floors, or any other part of your home. We can help get rid of a few old pieces of furniture, or we can haul everything out of the basement or attic. Just let us know what you want to get rid of.

You might need us for your new home, too. Typically, houses are completely emptied out before they’re sold because it’s much easier for a real estate agent to sell an empty house. However, if you buy a house at auction or that is listed in “as-is” condition, you may find that it’s full of junk the previous owner didn’t want. You probably don’t want any of this stuff, so you’ll want to get rid of it as soon as possible so you can move in. Junk King’s furniture removal service can handle these types of homes. Just tell us you want the place emptied out, and we’ll go to work.

While the spring brings with it gorgeous weather and blooming plants, it may also bring storms. In many places, the spring weather brings tornados, heavy rains, and even hurricanes. All of this bad weather can lead to damage to your home. Even worse, while you may think you’ve found all of the damage and dealt with it, you may later find that there was more than you expected. That’s why it’s important to do annual spring cleaning. While there are a number of advantages to cleaning and organizing your home once a year, one of the most important reasons to do so is to find hidden signs of storm damage and deal with it before it affects the health of you and your family.

Spring Cleaning and Storm Damage

So what kind of storm damage can spring cleaning reveal? It depends on the type of storm. However, water damage is one of the most common types of damage that can go unnoticed for months or even years. When a home floods, a pipe bursts, or the roof is damaged by a tornado, moisture invades the home. If you’ve had this happen to you before, you know all about moving furniture out, drying the carpets with fans, and checking inside cabinets, closets, and other spaces.

However, it’s also possible for water to get inside the walls. When this occurs, you can’t easily see it or feel it. Yes, if there’s a large amount of water in the wall, it can cause the drywall to push outward and crack. However, what usually happens is that large amounts of water seep out from the bottom of the wall into the floor. This water is dried up by fans or vacuumed up with a wet vacuum. What you don’t get, though, is the moisture left behind in the wall.

This moisture is trapped in a dark place. If it’s in an interior wall, that space is also going to be warm. This is an ideal place for mold to start growing. You may open up the wall and find that it’s full of black mold, which is incredibly dangerous to your health. It can lead to coughing, sneezing, and other issues. It can make asthma or other breathing issues much worse, especially if the mold gets into an air vent and is actively circulated through the house.

Check Your Furniture and Floors for Damage

One of the items on your spring cleaning checklist should be to move furniture and sweep or vacuum under it. You likely don’t do this very often, so you should make it a point to do so once a year. This is also a time to check over your furniture and other items for damage. You might find some water damage along the back of a sofa that leads to finding mold in the wall, for example. You could also find a broken support that could hurt someone if it broke. Check for nails, screws, and staples that have come loose and now stick out.

Also, take a look at your flooring. You may find that your home has settled over time, causing the flooring to shift in unexpected ways. This is especially true for older houses that didn’t use modern flooring. Look for areas that are buckling, too. This could be an indication that something is wrong with the subflooring or even foundation issues. Use spring cleaning as a reminder to give your floors, walls, and your whole house the once-over.

Bigger Trucks

Gather Important Items and Invest in a Safe

In addition to checking your home for hidden dangers and cleaning under furniture, you also want to check your emergency plans and important documents and items. These things should be kept in a fireproof safe that will survive most natural disasters. The items in the same might include things such as birth certificates, social security cards, passwords, insurance paperwork, and even jewelry and irreplaceable heirlooms. This is something that you would look for during hurricane debris cleanup or in the aftermath of a fire.

During spring cleaning, look at what you have in the safe. Do you need everything in there? Is there anything you should add? Update what records you need to and make sure any new paperwork is added. You may have something like the title to a new vehicle that hasn’t made its way into the safe yet.

Clean Out Old Furniture and Other Junk

If you have an attic, basement, or garage that’s full of a lot of junk, spring cleaning is a good time to get rid of anything old that you don’t use. It can be dangerous to move through spaces that are full of old items. For example, trying to get something out of the garage when you have to push past an old sofa, boxes of junk, and other stuff can cause you to fall. You might also knock things down on yourself or onto the floor. If kids play around these areas, it can be very dangerous for them.

If all of this junk is in your basement, it can add to the dangers of a storm. You could bump into stuff, causing it to fall on you and your family. There may also not be enough space for everyone to comfortably get into the basement if it’s full of old furniture and other items. Even if you don’t have a basement, this may be the case for your interior closets, which can also be a good place to go during a tornado or hurricane. Follow the various spring cleaning tips to make these closets more functional and give you space to weather a storm in them.

How can you get rid of all this junk? One easy solution is to call a junk removal service like Junk King. We will come in and take away anything you want us to. This includes old furniture, trash, electronics, and much more. We’ll clean out your garage, your basement, or your whole house. You just tell us what you want us to take, and we’ll carry it out and load it into our truck. We’re very careful not to damage your home in the process, too. This is a great way of reclaiming space in your home that has been wasted.

What Will Junk King Katy Haul Away?

Junk King is here for all of your garbage removal needs. We do more than just haul away trash, though. We’re one of the most trusted names in furniture removal in the Houston area. Whether it’s a single old chair or half the furniture in your basement, we’ll haul it out to the truck. We also handle appliance removal, including refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers, and even hot tubs. Again, you don’t need to clean any of these appliances or do anything with them. Just point out what you want rid of.

junk removal service recycling

We Donate and Recycle When We Can

Appliances and furniture you find during your storm damage cleanup may no longer be in good condition. They may have no use other than tossing them. Some may not even be able to be disassembled and recycled. However, if you get rid of old furniture and appliances while they’re still in good condition, Junk King can donate or recycle them.

We have partnered with a number of local organizations that help those in need. We provide them with working appliances, furniture that is in good condition, and other items for them to pass on to people who need these things. This is a great way of giving back to your community while also getting rid of old items and helping the environment.

When we can’t donate something, we will recycle it whenever possible. During spring cleaning, you may come across a lot of things that present hazards, including broken furniture and old appliances. Instead of passing these on or sending them to the landfill, we will follow the appropriate recycling procedures. This typically means disassembling the item and recycling its base components. For appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, we will have a professional remove all of the harmful chemicals first.

Dealing with appliance recycling isn’t always easy. In fact, it can be difficult to find a service that will take old appliances and recycle them instead of simply taking them to the landfill. Because recycling appliances takes more work than tossing them in the dump, some companies just don’t want to deal with that. However, you can still recycle old refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other appliances in Katy, and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money. Here are a few ways you can make the most out of recycling appliances in the city.

Why Appliance Recycling is Better than Dumping them

Why should you care that your appliance gets recycled instead of going to the dump? There are a few reasons. First, the amount that goes into landfills every day has continued to increase over the years. In 2018, almost 300 million tons of trash went into the landfill, which is around five pounds per day per person. That’s an incredible amount, and it only counts the garbage in the United States.

Appliances use up a lot of materials, too. There are various metals, plastics, glass, and other components in just about every appliance. While there are some things that cannot be recycled, many of these components can be. It will take much longer for many of these components to break down in a landfill, so why not recycle them? It reduces our reliance on various materials, uses less power, and helps prevent landfills from overflowing.

New call-to-action

Why is it Difficult to Easily Recycle Appliances?

Why aren’t there more Katy recycling centers for appliances? There are a few reasons. First, several appliances contain refrigerants. If you are trying to recycle a refrigerator, freezer, or window air conditioning unit, you have to have those chemicals removed first. This must be done by a licensed professional because the freon and other chemicals are dangerous. You don’t want to get them on you or allow them to seep into the ground. Once those chemicals are removed, though, refrigerator recycling is fairly straightforward.

Second, appliance recycling isn’t quite as easy as recycling something like an aluminum can. Besides potentially a label, those cans have no parts to remove. With something like a dishwasher, there are a lot of components that have to be taken apart and sorted. The plastic racks and other plastic parts go through one recycling process, while the metal components go through another. The wiring has to be recycled in a third different manner. This all takes time, and some recycling plants can’t recycle all of the different components. They would have to be sent elsewhere.

Third, for individuals, it’s not quite as easy to recycle appliances as it is water bottles, cans, newspapers, and other items. You can’t simply throw them in your city recycling bin and let the city deal with it. You can’t even take them to a drop bin. If you put them out for bulk trash pickup, they’re likely to end up in the landfill. While there are easy ways of recycling Katy appliances (just call Junk King!), it’s still not quite as simple of a process as recycling other items is.

What’s the Solution?

What’s the solution to overcoming these roadblocks and recycling your appliances? Junk King of Katy! We have huge trucks that can hold just about anything. Our team will come in, take your old appliances and whatever other junk you have, and haul it all away. You don’t have to worry about doing anything at all. We will carefully remove these old appliances from your home and get them into the truck.

Unlike many other junk hauling services, we are fully dedicated to recycling as much as we possibly can. That’s why we take all of our trucks to a warehouse where we sort them. Anything that is recyclable is sorted out and taken to one of our Katy recycling partners. All of this is done at no extra charge to you. Once we’ve sorted everything, the recyclables are delivered to our partners and whatever has to go to the landfill is then compacted and dumped.

We Donate Appliances that Still Work

In addition to appliance recycling, we also take anything that still works or is usable and set it aside for donation. We know a number of organizations in Katy need donations and can make use of working refrigerators, washers, dryers, microwaves, and many other appliances. We test all of the appliances we get and pass along any that still work. We also donate furniture and other items that are in good condition. This helps those in the community who are in need and keeps items out of the landfill.

junk removal service recycling

What Can Be Recycled?

Many appliances can be recycled. Everything from small microwaves to large chest freezers can be broken down into their base components and sent through the recycling process. However, just as with other recyclables, there are some things that can contaminate the process. If you’ve had food get all over the inside of your refrigerator or freezer, those components will need to be fully cleaned or discarded. The dried-on food will otherwise interfere with the recycling process.

Appliances that have caught on fire may also be too damaged to be fully recycled, though some components may be removed and recycled. Usually, dents and other aesthetic damage don’t prevent recycling. If you have any questions about whether you can recycle a washer and dryer, freezer, or other item, just ask when you call us for an estimate. We’ll let you know if it’s something we can fully recycle or not.

Junk King Katy Hauls More than Just Appliances

While we will haul off Katy appliances, we also deal with much more. Our team will come remove any old furniture, televisions, hot tubs, construction waste, garbage, and even yard waste. Have an old shed? We can haul it away. Need to get rid of your old kitchen cabinets? Not a problem for Junk King.

Our goal is to serve as the one-stop for all of your junk hauling needs. About the only thing we can’t handle is anything hazardous. Our team cannot take anything that contains hazardous waste. If you have any questions about what we can haul away, just ask.

How Does it Work?

If you are in need of freezer recycling or have an old chair to get rid of, our process is very easy. First, contact Junk King. You can do this in a few ways. You can reserve a spot online, or you can give us a call. When you call, we’ll ask you some questions about what you need hauled away and can often give you a quote over the phone. Another option is to text us photos of the items you need removed.

Once we arrive, we will do a full estimate. Our estimates contain no hidden fees or extra costs. What you see is what you’ll pay. Rather than charge per truckload, we charge per amount of the truck your stuff takes up. For example, if you just need us to recycle a dishwasher, you won’t pay as much as someone who has several large sofas and bags of trash.

Most of the time, we can bring a truck when we come to look at the job and give you an estimate. If you accept the estimate, we can get to work right away. This means there’s only one appointment, so you don’t have to worry about taking off work or making sure you are home more than once.

Rent a Dumpster for Major Projects

In addition to junk hauling, we also offer dumpsters for rent. These dumpsters are perfect if you’re cleaning out an attic, basement, or whole house. They give you the space you need to sort the stuff you want to keep from the garbage. These dumpsters are designed to give you a large amount of space without damaging your driveway, sidewalks, or yard. As with our regular pickup service, we separate out anything that can go to a Katy recycling center and anything that can be donated.

Also, just like our hauling service, we charge by how much space in the dumpster you use. If you’ve used less than half, you’ll pay less than if you filled the entire dumpster. We will provide you with a pricing guide when you rent the dumpster so you can get an idea of how much you’ll pay. We can also give you tips for how to arrange furniture and other items in the dumpster so there are no empty pockets on the bottom, helping you reduce the amount of space the junk takes up.

Junk King Katy Junk Removal Eviction Management

Help Managing the Eviction Moratorium for Landlords

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone in some form or another. It’s stressful whether you’re an executive of a Fortune 500 company, a small business owner, or an employee just trying to make ends meet in these unprecedented and unpredictable times. If you’re a landlord, your stress load may be even worse due to the moratorium on evictions. When it was in effect, it was vital that you understood what this moratorium did and what actions you could take to keep your rental properties active and generate income. Now that most eviction moratoriums have expired, it helps to have a trash removal partner like Junk King on your side so you can get vacant rentals back on the market quickly.

The Federal Eviction Moratorium

Junk King Katy Eviction MoratoriumWhen Congress passed the CARES Act in March of 2020, one of the most important items in the act was to pause all evictions until July 2020. This meant that those who had lost their jobs or lost a substantial amount of income due to closed businesses could not lose their housing. This came early in the pandemic when non-essential businesses were closing for lockdown.

This eviction moratorium went into effect on March 27, 2020. It stated that qualified tenants couldn’t be evicted from properties during the moratorium. Landlords could also not file eviction notices until 30 days after the end of the moratorium, nor could banks file for foreclosure on any property. The end date was set as July 24, which means no evictions could be filed until August 23, 2020.

According to the bill, a qualified tenant was anyone who was renting a property that was associated with any type of federal funding or assistant program. This means if you, as the landlord, had purchased the property with a federally backed loan or were enrolled in any type of federally funded assistant program, you were subject to the moratorium. Experts estimated that this applied to anywhere from a quarter to almost half of all rental properties across the country.

The CDC Extensions Changed the Rules

When the CARES Act eviction moratorium expired on July 24, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stepped in and implemented their own moratorium. They cited a section of the Public Health Service Act to do so. This was legally challenged, but the Supreme Court upheld the moratorium.

This moratorium applied to any tenant who met specific criteria. Those who made under a certain income level and had made a good-faith effort to receive rental assistance from the government could file paperwork asking for eviction protection.

The CDC eviction and foreclosure moratorium was extended several times. The most recent extension was made on August 3, 2021, following the previous extension expiring July 31. This extension was planned to expire on October 3. However, the Supreme Court heard arguments to overturn the moratorium and did just that on August 26, 2021. This decision ended the federal eviction moratorium for landlords and tenants.

Eviction in Texas

Following the end of the federal moratorium on August 26, evictions in Texas resumed. While there’s no state-level halt on evictions, numerous resources are available for landlords and tenants. One such eviction and foreclosure resource was the Texas Eviction Diversion Program. Landlords and tenants were able to request assistance for rent and utility bills. However, there was a maximum amount of funds for this program, and applications are no longer accepted as of December 14, 2021.

Other Eviction and Foreclosure Resources

As a landlord, you don’t want to give any tenant an eviction notice. Evicting tenants can be a long, troublesome legal effort, and it costs money. Fortunately, there are both foreclosure resources and assistance for landlords and tenants. These resources can help your tenants pay rent, and some may even assist you directly.

However, there are going to be cases where you have to evict a tenant, just like there were before the pandemic. Some tenants may have damaged the home beyond repair or were constantly late in paying rent even when they were working full-time. If you have to handle an eviction, it’s vital that you consult with an attorney to make certain you do everything legally. While the federal moratorium on evictions has ended, for now, the COVID-19 crisis is still ongoing. It’s possible another moratorium may be imposed at the state or federal level. You want to make certain that you’re complying with all current laws and regulations if you have to evict someone.

Dealing with an Eviction

If you have had to evict a client, you have to be ready for what they will do to your property. Tenants who are being evicted may no longer care about respecting the property, and some may intentionally damage it or even steal things from the property. Landlords have walked into properties after evicting the tenants to find appliances, and light fixtures have been taken and sold. In extreme cases, angry tenants may even strip the copper wires out of the walls.

In other instances, however, these evicted tenants don’t take things. Instead, they leave things. They may simply stop taking out the garbage, so you have to deal with it. They might unplug the refrigerator, so the food in it expires. Other times, they may take what they want and leave behind the rest of their possessions, including furniture. You never know what you’re going to walk into when you evict someone from a rental property.

What Do You Do with this Junk?

If someone leaves property behind, you do need to make certain you understand your legal obligations. You may need to notify the tenants, hold their possessions for a certain amount of time, and follow other regulations. That doesn’t mean you have to let their expired food remain in the refrigerator or the garbage bags stay where they are. However, for a property that is obviously not trashed, you do need to make an attempt to notify the tenant. You may also want to include a section on abandoned property in your leases. Be certain to run your lease by a lawyer to make certain they are legally sound and consult with an expert in Texas landlord-tenant laws before you dispose of a tenant’s property.

New call-to-action

What We Take

Our junk removal team can take just about anything. The only thing we cannot deal with is hazardous waste. We can haul away large pieces of furniture and appliances, including hot tubs, and we will take televisions and other electronics. Of course, we also take bagged-up garbage and yard waste. If you’ve been doing some renovations to the home, we can even haul away your construction waste for you. Our large trucks are capable of hauling away a large amount of stuff at once, so we can often do everything in one load.

Donations and Recycling

Junk King firmly believes in protecting the environment and reducing our impact on the planet. To that end, we recycle or donate everything that we can. When you hire us for our clean-out services, you don’t need to sort out recyclables or items that are still in good condition. We will do that after we’ve picked everything up. If it’s something in good condition, we will send it to one of our local donation partners. Often, foreclosure and eviction furniture is still usable, and we want to make certain it continues to be used instead of going to a landfill.

Junk King Katy Dumpster Rental

Six Dumpster Rental Tips to Make the Most of Your Rental

When you rent a dumpster, you want to ensure you’re getting the most out of that rental. After all, no one has money to throw around. Renting a dumpster can be the best option if you have a lot of garbage you need to get rid of. It may even make more sense to use a dumpster instead of a junk removal service at times. Here are six dumpster rental tips to help you get the most out of the dumpster, so you don’t waste any time or money. You’ll be able to quickly and easily complete your project while sticking to your budget.

Rent Your Junk King MINI Today

1. Should You Rent a Dumpster or a Hire Junk Removal Service?

Sometimes, renting a dumpster is the right option. Other times, though, junk removal may be more cost-effective. The first tip to making the most of your dumpster, then, is to be sure that it’s the right option. There are a few questions you can ask yourself to determine if it is.

First, how much trash and other junk do you have? If you only have a few pieces of furniture or an old appliance or two, dumpster rental probably isn’t right for you. Instead, Junk King can pick up these items and haul them away via our regular junk removal services. This is likely the better financial option, plus you don’t have to do any work, and we will come in and haul everything away.

Second, do you have all of the junk ready to go? If so, again, junk removal may be the best option. You know what you want to get rid of, so all you need to do is point it out. On the other hand, you may still have some things you need to go through. You may want to rip up flooring, take down cabinets, or make other remodeling changes. Instead of letting this debris pile up, it makes more sense to have a dumpster on hand so you can throw it all away. If you’re doing a DIY renovation or a major clean-out of an attic, basement, or hoarder home, a dumpster is likely your best option.

2. Find the Right Sized Dumpster

Once you’ve decided that a dumpster is the best option, you need to decide on the right size dumpster. There are several different dumpster sizes out there, but you typically don’t need the largest size possible for a home. These giant dumpsters are usually aimed at businesses or full renovations. If you select a dumpster that’s too large, you’ll pay for a lot of empty space. You can save a good amount of money by selecting the right size.

How do you do that? You’ll first need to estimate how much junk and other debris you have to get rid of. If you’re cleaning out a basement or other room, you’ll want to consider the furniture in that room as well as how many bags of trash you’ll have. If you’re doing a DIY remodel, you’ll have the debris you’re getting rid of, plus any packaging and other trash that comes from your new flooring, cabinets, etc.

Now take a look at what options are available. You may find that all you need is one of the smaller dumpsters. Our standard dumpster holds 12 cubic yards of junk here at Junk King. That’s a huge amount that can easily hold a few rooms’ worth of junk. It’s perfect for spring cleaning or redoing your kitchen. This dumpster is also perfect for driveways, and it won’t crack the concrete or damage your driveway in any way.

3. Know What You Can Put in a Dumpster

While dumpsters are designed for trash and other junk, you can’t put everything in them. Dumpsters can withstand a lot of weight and can hold many different materials, but there are some things that you shouldn’t put in them. If you rent your dumpsters from Junk King, the only real limit is on hazardous waste. You cannot put anything hazardous in our dumpsters due to the risk this waste poses to our crew. If you have something hazardous, we can help you find the right hazardous waste disposal company.

Other than hazardous waste, we can take most everything else. You can use our trash removal service or dumpster rental to get rid of furniture, appliances, old mattresses, televisions, hot tubs, construction debris, and much more. If you’re ever uncertain about an item, ask. We will let you know if it’s appropriate for our dumpsters and, if it’s not, we’ll help you find a way of disposing of it.

4. Have a Plan

Before you rent your dumpster, you want to be sure you’re ready for it. Junk King rents dumpsters for three, five, or seven days. If you want to keep your budget small and only have the dumpster for three days, you will need to be ready to get right to work.

This means you’ll need to have a plan. First, you will most likely need to have three full days to dedicate to your DIY project or clean-out. You may need to take off work or plan the project over a long weekend. Second, you may need to have a few friends or your family ready to help. The more people involved, the faster the project will go, and the less time you’ll need the dumpster.

Do as much before you get the dumpster as possible. Whether you have a spring cleaning plan or you’re cleaning out the garage, attic, or other space, start your organizing early if you can. Sort out stuff you know you want to get rid of. This works best if you have a space you can designate for to-keep items and a spot for trash. If that’s not possible, you may need to spend the first day of your dumpster rental getting rid of enough trash to have space for what you want to keep.

If you find that you can’t complete your project in the time you’ve allotted, we can extend your rental. Just give us a call and let us know.

5. Know How Much You’ll Be Charged

The last thing you want is for your affordable dumpster rental to become less affordable by the inclusion of hidden fees and other charges. Some unscrupulous companies out there will include extra fees at the end, often without much of an explanation as to what those fees are. Junk King never does this. Our estimates are always as complete as possible, and there is never any obligation or cost for a quote.

We charge based on how much of the dumpster you use. When we pick up your roll off dumpster trailer, we’ll measure how much junk you’ve put in it. You’ll pay the flat rental fee plus the cost of how much you’ve added to the dumpster. If you’ve used very little space, you won’t pay much more than the minimum charge. If you’ve used about half of it, you’ll pay the medium fee. If the dumpster is full, you pay the maximum amount. All of these fees plus any extras, such as excessive weight, will be presented to you upfront. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying.
