Raleigh Dirt Removal and Hauling

What’s the longest you’ve kept your garbage can out on the curb? Most Raleigh residents manage to bring the cans back in on the same day as the garbage pickup. However, there are some who have a problem with that. It’s such a problem that the City Council is getting involved to deal with complaints and they’re looking for a solution from the Solid Waste Services staff. Originally, residents were given until 7 p.m. the following day to bring the cans in. But that time frame was extended in 2006. Yet even with the extra time some residents are finding it hard to carry out this simple chore. The result is that a lot of folks are being issued a warning citation. Repeat offenders could find themselves being slapped with a fine if those cans are brought in. In the last year there have been over 1,500 warning letters issued to homeowners so clearly this is a problem.

Hopefully you’re handling your garbage in the proper way so as not to annoy your neighbors. But what about all the garbage you can’t easily throw out? We’re talking about the oversized items that can fit into those garbage cans. Those types of things can’t be put on the curb either. For the proper removal of that kind of stuff you’re only choice should be Junk King of Raleigh. These are the professional junk haulers who can handle any type of removal project.

Let’s talk dirt. There could be many reasons why you’ve got a pile of dirt in your yard. Maybe you needed to dig up some pipes or remove a tree whose roots are seeping into your home. Maybe you’re just rearranging your garden in anticipation of spring planting. Whatever the reason it’s going to be extremely difficult to load up your garbage can with piles of dirt. Where will the rest of your garbage go? With Junk King you’ll have a strong crew and truck at your command to help with the dirt removal. Don’t worry about a container; if it’s needed Junk King Raleigh will provide at no extra cost.

While they’re removing the dirt, that same Junk King crew can remove other big items like a couch, stove, tire or play set. If you want to get rid of something then let Junk King do all the heavy lifting and disposal. When Junk King takes on the job they’ll be the ones getting dirty! You couldn’t ask for a better method of junk removal!

Home Downsizing Tips in Raleigh

To downsize is to shrink your living space and improve your quality of life. The reason is that with less property to manage you’ll save money and have more time to do the things you want that make your happy. A typical Raleigh downsize move would be to transition from a huge house to a smaller condo or apartment. This is a very popular move for parents who find themselves in a big empty house after all the kids have moved on. Why pay for all that space you’re not using? Retirees who don’t want to spend hours mowing lawns or keeping up with home repairs also benefit from downsizing. When you’re ready to downsize you should consider the following tips:

1. Make a List

This would be the list of all the things you can’t live without. This could include some of those furniture pieces, appliances, TVs, computers and kitchen equipment that you use on a regular basis. If you’ve got rooms of furniture or even a guest room where no guests ever go then those would be items you can get rid of. Always think smaller.

2.  Start Sooner

Don’t wait until the week before you move to start thinning out your discarded items. As soon as you know where you’ll be living, you’ll know just how much space you’ll have to work with. That will be the time to start clearing out the clutter. The goal is to take less with you to your new home not the same amount of stuff.

3.  Be Realistic About Your Keepers

The stuff you want to keep should be practical. Do you really need ten mixing bowls when you only ever use two? Do you need a dining room table that seats twelve when the most folks you ever have over for dinner is six? Depending on where you’re headed you might also be able to get rid of things like stepladders, lawn movers, gardening equipment and anything else you don’t need around the new home. This is especially true if you’re moving into a condo where all the outdoor maintenance will be take care of.

4. Call Junk King Raleigh

As you prepare to get rid of all your discarded items you’ll find that Junk King will become your perfect partner. They’ll be able to provide the manpower and truck space you’ll need to get rid of any amount of downsized items. With Junk King on your side you’ll find that making the move is going to be a lot less stressful. That’s because with one removal appointment, Junk King will have everything taken away and you won’t have to lift a finger.

Don’t put off a better way of living. Think about downsizing today. When you’re ready, Junk King Raleigh will be standing by to help.

E-Waste Recycling in Raleigh

Two questions: Do you know where the closest landfill is and do you know what is banned from that landfill? Unless you live within “smelling distance” you probably have no clue where the nearest landfill is and why should you? That’s not something you have to contend with. After all, your garbage is picked up and disposed of weekly by the trusted municipal workers. However, you should know what is banned from those landfills so that you don’t inadvertently toss it out. That would be all manner of televisions and computer equipment. As of July 1st, 2011 e-waste like that was officially banned from all North Carolina landfills.

Now, those same municipal workers could possibly pick up your e-waste and dispose of it in the right way but “when” that would do that depends on “where,” as in where is your quadrant? In a system that probably makes sense only to government workers but not many others, Raleigh is divided into 4 quadrants: NW, NE, SW and SE. Each of those quadrants has a designated pickup day but in order to unlock the clues to that mystery you’ll need to make your way through the maze of city’s automated telephone answering system and schedule an appointment. You’ll also have to drag whatever you want collected down to the curb. That might be easy if you’re tossing out an old laptop but a big screen TV? How are you supposed to manage that? There is a better way and that’s with Junk King Raleigh.

Junk King is the local Raleigh business that takes all the hassle out of junk removal. You still don’t have to worry about where the landfill is located or how to find the right recycling center for your e-waste. Junk King has you covered because those sites are all part of their daily drop off routines. And you won’t have to worry about lugging anything to the curb. The Junk King crew will do all the lifting and carrying.

If you have an old television to get rid of and intend to hire Junk King for the job you don’t have to stop there. Let the JK crew take away any other oversized item you’re ready to toss out. Furniture, appliances, mattresses, lawnmowers, remodeling waste: it can all go on the back of the Junk King truck.

This is the time of year when everyone is swapping out their old gadgets for new gizmos. By now you might have quite the collection of unused desktops, monitors or other types of e-waste. Get rid of them all at once with Junk King Raleigh; it’s really the only way to go!

Raleigh Moving and Junk Hauling

Is it time for you to make a list and check it twice? No, we’re not discussing a “naughty or nice” list but a moving list. If you’re looking towards moving into a new home or apartment in the New Year then you should be well on your way to packing up. The earlier you can start the packing phase the better off you’ll be in terms of your stress levels. This doesn’t mean you have to pack up everything in a day but if you’re weeks from the big move day you can start with small things like a bookshelf a day or a cabinet a day. Before you know it you’ll have everything you need ready for the movers.

The thing to make sure is that you label those boxes not only with the contents but also where is will be going in your new home. The easier you can make it for the movers the better off moving day will be. It will also be less expensive because once the movers show up the meter starts running. If they have to waste time carrying boxes from room to room you’re going to end up getting a bigger bill then you expected.

Another way to save on moving expenses is to actually have a junk removal day before the actual move day. This is where you’ll be getting rid of all the junk you’ve noticed you’ve collected over the years. It’s when we’re forced to pack up everything that we realize just how much junk we’re hanging onto. You certainly don’t want to start a new life in a new space by carrying all that old junk with you. You don’t have to when you hire Junk King Raleigh for the removal chores.

With Junk King Raleigh helping out you won’t have to fuss with renting a truck; that’s part of the deal. You’ll also be getting a two-man crew to do all the backbreaking work of lifting and carrying your junk. But don’t feel guilty: those crews are professionally trained to haul heavy objects and think nothing of moving a sofa or fridge.

As you pack, you could start to build up a pile of your discarded stuff for the Junk King removal. But even that is more effort then you need to exert. The Junk King Raleigh crew will go where your junk is whether that’s down in the basement, up in the attic or out in the garage. Just tell them what you want removed and they’ll handle the rest. It couldn’t be any easier!

Raleigh Old TV Disposal

Tis the season for a new TV. Every year the deals for brand new televisions sets get better and better. Don’t worry if you missed out on the Black Friday door busters. You might be surprised to discover that those very same deals can be yours without camping out on the sidewalk. If this will be your first journey into the wonderful world of HDTV you’ll want to take note of a few things to be on the lookout for.

HDTV stands for High Definition Television. It refers to the picture and sound quality that is going to be delivered to you in this digital age we’re living in. The minimum quality of HDTV to look for is one that has 1280 x 720 pixels. A pixel is a point of light. The more points of light, the sharper the picture. You also want to check the plug-in ports. This is where you’ll be hooking up your DVD and/or Blu-Ray player. The best option is a HDMI connection. This is a simple plug in utilizing a special cable running between the machines and it will afford you the highest quality picture and sound for your playback. Most new HDTVs come with this kind of port as standard but it’s always good to double check.

You’re also going to discover that “slim is in” when it comes to the new design of TVs. Gone are those old tube types. In fact, you might not even be able to find them in the stores! Instead, you can treat your new TV like a painting and hang it on the wall. If you prefer there are plenty of stylish stand options for the TV as well. Your new HDTV might also have to be adjusted for your picture quality preference. There are different settings that adjust the color and brightness depending on the type of program you’re watching. There might be a setting for sports, cinema or natural viewing. Try them all out to see which is going to be the perfect fit. And as long as you’re going HDTV you might as well kick in for surround sound, too! There are plenty of “Home Theater in a Box” type of systems that let you plug and play with very little set up hassle. You’re going to need some external speakers but they should all be part of that kit.

Before you take delivery on that new TV you want to make sure you clear the space by getting rid of the old box. A TV is not something you can sit outside on the curb. It has to be properly disposed of and the best way to do that is with Junk King Raleigh. They are Raleigh’s best junk removal specialists and are happy to help you get rid of the clutter in your home. You don’t have to hire them just for the TV removal. Take advantage of this big truck by getting rid of all your unwanted junk. That’s what Junk King Raleigh is all about!

Raleigh Appliance Disposal

You’re favorite shopping partner this holiday season could be a smart phone app. There are dozens of scanner apps that let you wander into a nearby Raleigh store and take a picture of a product’s UPC bar code. The app then shows you if you can get that item at a better price somewhere else. What’s great is that armed with that information, you might be able to convince the store to sell you the item at the discount price. Chances are you’ll get the deal because they want to keep you in the store. This would make you a very smart shopper indeed.

Having an app like that is great but you should also do some other research in advance of shopping especially when you’re looking for big ticket items like major kitchen appliances. One of the most common things that folks forget to do is measure the space. If you’ve got custom cabinets where a fridge slides in for a perfect fit then you want to make sure your new fridge won’t be oversized. That holds true for stoves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers. Measure twice just to make sure.

You should consider the life of the new appliance you’re getting in terms of how long you’ll be using it. Typically, something like a fridge or stove could last five years and beyond. That’s why you should treat yourself to buy something with a few more bells and whistles. Why scrimp when you can get exactly what you want? And make sure whatever item you get that it will be EnergyStar rated. This will insure your appliance is energy efficient. With a new refrigerator this matters a lot because that’s the single item in your home which uses up the most energy. An EnergyStar ice box can bring your electric bills down significantly.

After picking the perfect new appliance, you’re going to need to get rid of that old one. If you’re not donating it then chances are it’s destined for the trash heap but you just can’t toss it out the door and be done with it.  Instead you should consider hiring Junk King Raleigh for the pickup and removal of any oversized item like a stove, fridge or dishwasher. Junk King Raleigh has the man power and truck space to cart off any large item. You don’t have to hire them for a single pickup. After they load up your old fridge, they can also help you get rid of anything else you want tossed out. This is a golden opportunity to clear out the spare room or clean out the garage to your car can park indoors again. Junk King is fast and affordable and they’re just a phone call away!

Raleigh Refrigerator Disposal

What shape are your “white goods” in? These would be all of your appliances. Perhaps they’re called “white goods”  because back in the day all of our stoves, refrigerators and washing machines were all white. An interesting fact is that here in Raleigh you can’t take your white good appliance to a landfill and yet you’re already paying for that kind of disposal. As it turns out, every appliance sold in the state is slapped with a surcharge to cover the cost for those landfill owners to recycle that appliance that has already been dumped in their place. However, this surcharge doesn’t cover the cost of collecting that appliance. That’s all on you.

Here’s how the Department of Solid Waste for the state explains this: “The cost of collecting white goods has not been calculated into the solid waste collection program that is funded mostly by property taxes and partly by the solid waste fee included on utility bills. Since the disposal/recycling of white goods is not a routine service, it would not be cost effective to fund a crew simply to collect white goods. Instead, white goods collection is treated as a user fee situation.”

In other words, you can schedule a pickup and removal of a bulky kitchen appliance but it’s going to cost you. You also can only get that single item removed. What if you have more junk you want to get rid of? The best bargain for your bucks would be to hire Junk King Raleigh for all your junk removal needs.

Junk King is the local Raleigh business that has been cleaning up the clutter in homes and businesses all around the city. By now they’ve collected literally tons of useless items and made sure they were properly disposed off. For something like a refrigerator or stove, the Junk King crew will drop that item off at the proper recycling facility. Don’t worry if this center is an hour drive from your home; you’re not going to be charged for any travel time. In fact, you’re only going to be charge for the amount of space your junk will take up on their trunk. That is a true bargain!

Now you can finally get rid of that old fridge along with oversized items like mattresses, furniture and even backyard debris. Yes, Junk King Raleigh will even collect all the leaves that have fallen in your yard. Junk King is fast, efficient and dependable. Their workers are all licensed and insured. Simply put, Junk King is a solid company who depends on the recommendations of their customers. You can only achieve that level of success when you do the job right!

Raleigh Yard Waste Removal

Did you have a good gardening season? This past summer was certainly proof positive that we’re living through some wacky weather but that doesn’t mean home gardeners didn’t manage to eke out a decent little harvest for themselves. As winter approaches, the temptation is to kind of let the gardens wither back into the ground and have Mother Nature take care of it all. However, most professional garden experts recommend that you clean up the spent garden debris to help diminish the occurrence of fungal disease. Worst case scenario would have those debris piles becoming a breeding ground for insects. Yes, there are bugs in the winter!

The suggestion is to deep plow that debris and get down to the roots. When roots are exposed to freezing temperatures there is a greater chance of reducing the emergence of plant pests.  You could plant what is referred to as a “cover crop.” This would be something like rye grain, wheat or crimson clover. These plants will reduce erosion and provide nutrients for the soil. When these plants mature just plow them over about six weeks before you start the spring planting. We can all agree that it’s a lot of work to keep a garden growing and healthy but there are plenty of rewards to be had from all that work.

In terms of that hard work, you don’t have to do it alone. You can contract with Junk King of Raleigh to help with all the yard waste removal. While it is true that the bulk of what Junk King takes away is actually “junk” that doesn’t stop them from hauling off dirt, sod, fallen tree limbs, shrubs and leaves. In fact, there isn’t much that Junk King won’t haul away.

As a backyard gardener you might have the tendency to rake debris into piles. Nothing wrong with that. But when you hire Junk King Raleigh know that they can do all the work. In other words, if something has fallen in your yard, leave it where it fell and Junk King will take it from there!

Take note that all the work Junk King can do in your backyard doesn’t have to stop there. Why not take full advantage of their removal appointment by finally getting rid of some of the junk you’ve been hanging onto over the years? This will be all that useless stuff taking up valuable space in your garage, basement, attic and closet. Surely you could find plenty of other items that would make a perfect companion for your yard waste.

After Junk King has done their thing, you can focus on making sure the rest of your home and gardens are ready for the winter. Taking time to prepare now will set you up for a safe holiday and great growing season next year.

Raleigh Mattress Disposal

The Solid Waste Services of Raleigh offers residents a Bulky Load Collection. But there are some rules to follow. Here’s how they spell it out on their website:

“A Bulky Load at a single address is limited to four (4) cubic yards, which is equivalent to filling the bed of a standard-size pickup truck. To maintain the efficiency of our crews, please accumulate several items prior to scheduling this special collection. Yard waste, large appliances, computers and televisions are not included in Bulky Load as these items are banned from landfill disposal. Excess bags of garbage that would normally be put in the garbage cart will not be collected. No odor-causing waste will be collected. You must call ahead to schedule a Bulky Load Collection. A collection for a specific address can be scheduled no more often than every 90 days. Once your collection has been arranged, place all items at the curb as Solid Waste Services employees will not enter your yard to collect items for disposal. Items placed at curbside without scheduling ahead for a bulky load collection will not be picked up by regular garbage, recycling or yard waste collection crews, and are subject to or will be assessed administrative fees and civil penalties according to Section 7 of Raleigh City Code.”

Also take note that this service isn’t provided to anyone living in an apartment or a community that has a dumpster for their garbage collection. Kind of restrictive don’t you think? Surely, they mean well and can only do so much but they certainly don’t leave a lot of wiggle room when it comes to variables. Like suppose the junk you want to get rid of is bigger than 4 cubic yards? Does that mean you’ll have to wait another 90 days before you can get it picked up? What about that part of having to drag everything down to the curb? Yes, that works when you take out the weekly garbage but if you’re tossing out an old fridge or couch you’re not going to be able to easily get that item down to the street.

All of this should have you pointing in one direction: Junk King Raleigh. If you want to get rid of your bulky items let Junk King handle the assignment. First of all they won’t limit you as to how much you can get rid of. If you’re throwing out an entire household worth of furniture so be it. Secondly, they do all the work as in all the lifting. No matter how many stairs to climb, the Junk King Raleigh crew will handle it. Best of all, they work on your schedule. When you’re ready they’ll be ready and all it takes is a single phone call to 1-800-995-JUNK. Get junk free today!

Raleigh Hot Tub Disposal

Take a moment to imagine yourself slipping into a soothing hot tub right now. Chances are you’re reading this post from your desktop, laptop or iPad: none of those devices should be anywhere near a hot tub! A hot tub soak is for a moment of going “off the grid.” But here you are chained to your computer wishing you could be in a hot tub. Sorry, to plant that image in your mind but maybe it will just inspire you into action. This is meant for all those folks who have an old, broken down hot tub in their backyards and want inspiration to get rid of that eyesore. Consider the benefits of a hot tub.

The three basic components of a hot tub soak are heat, buoyancy and massage. Any one of those elements would be a benefit but when you combine all three at once you’re getting a powerful therapeutic punch. On the average 1 in 3 Americans suffer from some level of arthritis. A hot tub provides relaxation for the muscle joints and sooths pain especially after a hard day of stressful writing.

Another common ailment is insomnia which can impact around 75% of Americans at one point in their lives. The conventional wisdom is that a 15 minute soak in a 103 degree tub before going to bed will provide the kind of substantive relaxation that increases the chances of easily drifting off the sleep. That’s a lot better than popping a pill which will have you feeling groggy all the next morning.

Among the most startling benefits of consistent hot tub use is the positive effect is has on people suffering from Type 2 Diabetes. According to a recent report, patients who soaked for a soothing 30 minutes per day were shown to have a 13% decrease in blood sugar levels. That translated into improved sleep and a greater sense of overall well-being. Hot tub use has also been shown to reduce blood pressure, headaches and accelerates the general healing process. How can you not live with a hot tub?

This brings us back to the issue of the old hot tub you have in your yard. If you’re convinced that it’s time for a new and improved model then you’ll first have to get rid of the old one. That’s where hiring Junk King Raleigh will be a huge help. Junk King is a business of professional junk haulers. While they make short work of loading up old furniture, e-waste and appliances onto the back of their truck they can also easily tackle the dismantling of a hot tub. No matter how cumbersome or heavy the pieces of a hot tub are, the Junk King Raleigh crew will have no trouble getting it onto the back of their truck. The sooner you get rid of that old tub the quicker you can bring in the new one and let the healing begin!
