Scrap metal thieves are becoming a lot more aggressive in their capers. This is such a problem that the Colorado Springs Police Department has established their own scrap metal theft task force who are charged with tracking down these criminals. Recently the Colorado Springs Police Department was helped by the state patrol when officers pulled over a man suspected of driving under the influence. After little bit more digging the task force found that this man and his partner were linked over 50 cases of scrap metal theft that amount to over $150,000 in damages.
This recent arrest comes on the heels of another big arrest that occurred back in December when three men were charged with stealing over $1 million worth of copper since 2008.
