How to Find the Best Junk Removal Services for Your HOA

HOA Junk Removal

One of the most essential duties of any homeowner’s association is to keep their neighborhood looking clean and neat. That means cleaning up any large messes left over after projects and events. While it’s certainly possible to clean and dispose of trash by yourself, many HOAs find it more efficient to bring in a professional junk removal company.

The ease and simplicity of hiring a junk hauling service are appealing, but finding a reputable company can be a difficult process in and of itself. A Google search for “hauling service near me” is a great start, but you’ll have to spend some time comparing reviews, collecting estimates, and trying to figure out which company best suits your needs. That’s why we put together this post to help you streamline that process as much as possible so you can focus on more important things.

What You Need to Know About Junk Pickup and Removal Services for HOAs

If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowner’s association, you know you’ll be expected to keep your property clean and free of trash and junk. HOAs tend to disapprove of trash bags piled on the sidewalk and broken-down swingsets resting on the front lawn. In order to keep the neighborhood up to the standards set by the HOA, residents will need junk pick up that’s fast and effective so those trash bags don’t sit outside for days.

Junk removal services are a great solution to that problem. In most cases, you’ll be able to get someone sent to your house the same day you call, and the hauling process rarely takes longer than 15 minutes to half an hour. No matter the scope of your project or event, you can have the leftover trash taken care of by the end of the day.

How to Get Rid of Junk Piles in Your Neighborhood

One of the more common requests we get from HOA residents, after “get rid of my junk,” is “help clean up my neighborhood.” Part of living in an area with a homeowner’s association is taking pride in not only your own property but also the rest of the neighborhood. There’s a sense of community ownership of public spaces in HOA neighborhoods, which means cleaning up places like sidewalks and parks whenever junk or trash starts to pile up there.

The cleaning itself usually requires only a few volunteers and a couple of hours, but disposing of trash is a whole other question. You can save time and effort by bringing in a professional junk removal company to haul away the trash and sort it for you. That keeps you from having to drive around to landfills and recycling centers all over the area, while also ensuring that everything recyclable is sent to the proper location.

Junk Removal Tips for Apartment Complexes and HOAs

Apartment complex junk removal can be a little tricky since furniture and other junk can accumulate around the dumpsters and alleyways behind the building. It can sometimes be difficult to figure out which junk came from which apartment. In order to keep your complex from getting too messy, public spaces like lobbies and courtyards need to be kept clean by the residents, just like an HOA cleanup. Forming a similar organization among the residents of your apartment complex is a great start.

One of the most important things you can do to keep your apartment complex clean is actually to focus on your own unit. Letting trash pile up in your apartment will attract bugs and other pests that can spread to the rest of the complex, affecting the other residents. If you keep a regular schedule when cleaning your own apartment, you should have more than enough time and energy to help out with cleaning public areas as well.

The Lowest Costs on Trash & Debris Removal in Your Area

Finding a low cost trash removal service is a high priority for most HOAs and there’s really no reason to spend more than you have to on junk removal. That’s why it’s so important to get written estimates from a handful of companies before you make a decision. Not only will this help you get a general sense of how much junk removal services should cost, but it’ll let you know which companies offer the least expensive service.

It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that some low cost debris removal services are better than others. If you’re shopping around and you get an estimate that sounds too good to be true, it could very well be. Cheaper prices are great, but not if they come at the expense of good work. Your first priority should be finding a junk removal company that you know you can trust.

What Happens after You Call Up a Hauling Company to Remove Your Junk?

When you first hire a hauling company, they’ll start out by giving you an estimate. At Junk King Contra Costa, you can get an estimate from an on-site assessment, a conversation over the phone, by texting us a picture of the trash, or by using our free online price estimation tool. Next, you’ll set up an appointment with junk removal specialists. Finally, when the truck arrives, all you have to do is point out everything you need them to haul away.  In many cases, these haul away services can be handled in a single day, from the initial call to the work itself.

Why Should You Choose a Local Junk King in Contra Costa?

At Junk King Contra Costa, we have the experience required to handle anything your HOA might throw at us. How to Take Apart and Recycle a Trampoline

How to Prevent Serious Injuries When Dismantling a Trampoline

Before taking it down for the winter, the first question you should ask yourself is not “How do you dismantle a trampoline?” but rather “How do you do it safely?” While it’s not particularly difficult or dangerous to take a trampoline apart, there are still a few things you should do to make sure you don’t hurt yourself.

The first thing you’ll need is a pair of solid work gloves. Anyone who’s done their research into trampoline safety knows how easy it is to scratch yourself or pinch your fingers in the metal springs that hold it all together. Not only can this be painful, but any rust on the metal can hold potentially dangerous bacteria or even tetanus. To avoid infection, wear long sleeves and keep your gloves on while dismantling the trampoline.

If you’re feeling extra cautious, use safety glasses or a pair of goggles to protect your eyes. While it’s unlikely, the tension in the springs can sometimes cause them to snap back when disconnected from the jumping mat, so it’s not a bad idea to have a little extra protection.

Step-by-step Instructions on How to Take Apart Your Trampoline

Step One: Preparation and Cleaning

Before taking the trampoline apart, you’ll first have to gather the necessary tools. Besides the gloves and safety goggles, you’ll also need:

● A screwdriver or electric drill to unscrew the metal frame

● A spring puller to detach the springs from the jumping mat

● A wrench to loosen any nuts on the frame

Make sure to clean your trampoline completely before taking it apart. Use a broom to brush away any leaves or dirt on the mat, clean away any grime with warm soapy water, and then use a hose to spray down the mat. If any rust has formed on the metal pieces, you can use rust remover or lemon juice to clean it off.

Step Two: Remove the Net, Poles, and Other Accessories

After cleaning the mat, the next step is to remove any extra pieces. Untie any basketball hoops or other accessories from the poles, then untie the net. It’s a good idea to clean and fold the net so it’s easier to store over the winter. The poles may be attached to the frame itself; if so, just use the screwdriver or drill to take them apart. We recommend wrapping the poles in plastic or some other cover to protect them while they’re being stored.

Step Three: Untie the Safety Pad

The safety pad that covers the springs is usually pretty easy to remove. They’re generally attached with ties that go around the springs, so just reach underneath the trampoline and undo the knots. You can use a key or screwdriver to help with particularly difficult or troublesome knots. Once you’ve removed the pad, just fold it up for storage.

Step Four: Disassemble the Springs

This is the tricky part. You can technically use pliers or a screwdriver to disconnect the springs from the mat, but we recommend a proper trampoline spring puller, also known as a T-hook. A T-hook is just a long, thin metal rod with a handle on one end and a hook on the other.

Starting with the inside end of the spring, hook the spring puller into the spring’s coil and pull it towards the center of the trampoline until it comes free of the V-ring on the mat. Then, simply unhook the other end from the frame and repeat with the other springs. Don’t worry, the first one is the most difficult – they get easier as you go.

Step Five: Fold the Mat

Once the springs have been removed, the mat will be fully disconnected from the frame. Before putting it away, give it a quick inspection to make sure there are no holes or tears. If you find any, you can use a trampoline repair kit to patch the damage. Fold up the mat until it’s small enough to store, and then you’re almost done.

Step Six: Dismantle the Frame

At this point, all that’s left is to take the metal frame apart. Some trampolines have wind pegs to keep them from blowing away; if yours is one of these, remove the pegs first. To disassemble the frame, use the screwdriver or drill and the wrench to take out any screws or bolts and just take it apart piece by piece. You might need some help with this part, especially if you have a larger trampoline. Make sure to organize the screws and nuts as you go, since they can often be different sizes. Once you’re finished, collect the pieces and pack them away.

Recycling Options for Disassembled Trampolines

If you’re trying to get rid of your trampoline instead of just putting it away for the winter, the simplest way to do that is to just get it recycled. We recommend at least recycling the metal frame from your trampoline since metal is valuable and easy to repurpose, but usually, you can take the whole thing to a recycling center. Different centers will have different policies on recycling trampolines, so make sure to give them a call before just showing up since they may not take every piece.

If you want to avoid the hassle of a recycling center, you can always give Junk King Contra Costa a call. We’ll happily stop by your house, pick up the trampoline, and take it to our processing center to be recycled.

Recycling Facts Everyone Should Know

Everyone knows the basics of recycling: Anytime an item is recycled is reduces the amount of energy used to make a new thing from raw materials. That reduced energy helps promote less greenhouse gases and therefore better for the planet. But there is a lot more about recycling that you should know about.

green-1357925__340

Start with recycling rates. This is how much each country recycles as a percentage of the total amount of trash they collect. Who do you think is number one? That would be Switzerland at 52%. Australia is next at 49% followed by Germany (48%), the Netherlands (46%), and Norway (40%) round out the top five. What about the U.S.? We’re a bit farther down the list with a recycling rate of 31.5%.

In terms of saving energy, recycling saves twice as much energy as burning garbage in an incinerator. That’s a good thing because we certainly throw out a lot of stuff. Consider Styrofoam cups. In the United States alone, people throw away 25 billion Styrofoam coffee cups a year.

What about jobs? Recycling creates 6-10 times as many jobs as landfills and those incinerators plants. So how much garbage is made each year? The world generates 2.6 trillion pounds of garbage. Here in America, we toss out enough steel each year to build all the new cars that are actually made in America. And the United States throws away $11.4 billion worth of recyclable containers and packaging every year. That is a lot of money that is literally being tossed out in the trash.

Your own recycling efforts don’t have to be confined to your soda cans, plastic bottles and papers. You can expand your home recycling by picking the right junk hauler. Junk King Contra Costa is a professional junk hauling service that has been recycling rubbish since they began collecting it over twelve years ago. Junk King Contra Costa doesn’t do the actually recycling. They just make sure the junk gets to the right place. Everything is sorted at the depot and when they have full truckloads, off to the recycling center they go. If you want to step up your home recycling, then you’ll want to partner with Junk King Contra Costa.

Tips For Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

A person’s carbon footprint is the amount of energy they use throughout their daily routine. That energy is not only tied to what they actually expend but also with the types of products they purchase. If everyone focused on reducing their carbon footprint by just a little bit, it would be a big boost for the environment. Here are some tips you can put into action for reducing your carbon footprint starting today:

Turn Off Lights

There should never be a light on in a room that is being used. Even if you’re coming back to that room in a few minutes, you should still flip off the light. During the day put natural sunlight to work by open curtains and blinds.

Plan Your Errands

Are you the type of person that makes several trips to the grocery store throughout the week? It might be a smarter move to take care of it all in a single trip. That will certainly reduce the amount of gas you’re using your car. That in turn can be more money in your pocket. Additionally, you should also drive the speed limit for better fuel efficiency. If there’s an opportunity to walk or ride a bike to take care of those errands, then put that to use. Good for the environment and good for your body.

Shop at a Farmers Market

Farmers markets have grown in popularity to the point that nearly every community has at least one farmers market up and running on a weekly basis. By doing some of your shopping at a farmers market your help and support the local economy.

Turn Off Your Computer at Night

There’s no reason why your computer should be running overnight unless you are compressing a program. Not only should you shut down the computer and your monitor but you should also make sure it is unplugged from the wall. That holds true with other appliances and phone chargers that aren’t being used.

Recycle Your Junk

You probably are already recycling your plastics, papers and water bottles around the house but you recycle it doesn’t have to stop there. If you want to throw out larger items like furniture, appliances or e-waste, then those can be recycled to as long as you hire the right junk removal company. That would be Junk King Contra Costa. These junk removing pros have been going green ever since they started hauling away rubbish. They know the right recycle facilities to drop off all your recyclable materials. Best of all you don’t even have to ask, they’ll do it automatically. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint by getting rid of junk the only call to make is to Junk King Contra Costa.

Contra Costa Concrete Disposal & Recycling

Ask any contractor what is the hardest element to get rid of on a job site and they’ll tell you, “concrete.” Concrete disposal comes into play when you are replacing a driveway, sidewall, patio or foundation. Busting up the concrete is easy if you have the right tools. All it takes is a little jackhammer action and you’ll have chunks of cement waiting to be disposed of. That’s when it gets hard. Concrete is just way too heavy to easily move. You also need a huge container that can support the added wait. Basically, concrete disposal is a major headache. Of course, that applies only if you had to do the job yourself. If you hire Junk King to take care of your concrete disposal, then you won’t be lifting a single rock!

concrete-1444132-1-m

That same hardworking Junk King crew that can move out your heavy furniture will also be able to handle your heavy concrete pieces. Any time you schedule a junk removal appointment with Junk King, you’ll be asked what you’re throwing out. This gives the scheduler the information they need to make sure you get all you need for the job to be completed as quickly as possible. With some jobs, Junk King will dispatch multiple teams and trucks. You won’t be paying for any of that extra labor. You’ll only ever pay a single rate based on how much space your junk will occupy on the back of the truck. That type of pricing policy is crucial with something like concrete disposal. You certainly don’t want to be charged by the pound. You’d never be able to afford that!

Not only will Junk King lift and load all your busted up concrete, but they’ll also be disposing of it in a responsible manner. Often this will be dropping off the chunks to a recycling center. Your old concrete can be ground up and pulverized then put back into circulation. You might even be using recycled cement for the new driveway! Again, this service is included in the price. There won’t be any added charges.

As long as the Junk King crew is taking care of your concrete disposal, why not put them to work clearing out the rest of the debris around your property? One call to Junk King takes care of concrete disposal and general junk hauling. Make that call today!
